Chelese, the event manager was extremely easy to work with and the staff was very helpful. I expected the food to be good but it was truly outstanding. I've rarely been to an event for a large number of people where the food was so exceptional and many guests raved about it. I strongly recommend the University Club as a venue for your event.

I absolutely love the University Club of Palo Alto!…read more For me, the highlight is the pool. I love swimming here--there's an excellent lap pool where you can sign up for lanes, a diving board for extra fun, and plenty of open swim time for families. Kids can't get enough of the swim team, and there's even a shaded baby pool that's perfect for infants and toddlers. The tennis courts are top of the line, whether you're playing just for fun or competitively. The tennis pros are fantastic, and the whole tennis community here is great. Pickleball is also really taking off--it's always fun and social. The gym has everything you could want: Peloton bikes, free weights, machines, and a full range of classes. Beyond fitness, people also gather for bridge, mahjong, and other activities, so there's something for everyone. The food is excellent, the full bar is always a plus, and the events calendar is packed. There are great adult activities (salsa dancing, wine tasting, Aloha nights) and plenty for kids too (kids' night out, movie night, and more). Best of all, the community is welcoming and friendly. It's easy to meet people here, and many members end up making lifelong friends. All around, it's a wonderful club--I can't recommend it enough!

The golf carts are excellent. They have an excellent restaurant here too. The people that work here are great and there's even a guard at the gate. It's in a great location. It's right across from my old high school so it definitely brings back memories. This place is very well maintained. Both bathrooms are very nice and clean with full facilities. They have a tennis court, very clean very nice. They have a swimming pool. They even have a cottage to stay in overnight. This place is very huge. I very much suggest trying out the golf carts. The parking here is very nice. I love the outlook. WEll..its pretty much private too Great place for kids tho.

Note: PRIVATE CLUB…read more Extremely exclusive country club and golf course. Totally old school. Really enjoyed the atmosphere in the men's grill and on the course. The food was fantastic and the beer was cold. I had the Cobb salad and a couple of the guys I was with had Crab Louie's. All were perfect. As for the course...the NCGA usually gets course ratings correct...usually. This is one of those rare exceptions where I think they got it wrong. The course plays a 127 rating from the tips. However, numerous tight approaches, tight tee shots and tricky greens make me think this deserves a 130 or higher. Two holes, with 18 being the most memorable, require a staggering straight tee shot to get to the corner of a 90 degree dog leg. The distance is extremely deceiving as much of the course plays uphill and into the wind. Don't think that 386 yards is going to be an easy green in regulation out here. Be EXTREMELY careful on 15 and 16. A slice on either of these holes will launch a ball directly onto Alameda de las Pulgas, and possibly require you to buy a new windshield. The course, like most country clubs, is in phenomenal shape. The ponds are real, with blooming lily pads and everything. Much different than the concrete-lined, blue toilet water filled munis like Sunnyvale and Shoreline. Great practice facility and nice staff make it a must play if you have the opportunity to get out here.

I was delighted to join these adorable creatures on their weekly walk around Bol Park (visitors can also engage in feedings later in the afternoon on Sundays at the pasture gate). The two donkeys that went for a walk were April (age 16) who wears a covering due to a skin disease, and a senior donkey Buddy (age 26). We made a stop at the wood chips near the playground so guests could pet them and brush their fur. They were both really calm and good. The volunteers were lovely too, answering questions, educating us, and showing genuine affection for the donkeys. Perry, a third donkey they used to have on site and the inspiration for Shrek, was a miniature breed. He died at age 30, just earlier this year. But the docents expressed how two donkeys are still plenty to care for especially with health conditions. FAQ's online say the donkeys have only one purpose at Barron Park -- "bringing visitors a new perspective and brightening their days". Well, they were charming to me and certainly made me smile, so I guess they're doing their job :)

Before it became a city park in the 70s (there was a lot of bush), Cornelis Bol kept donkeys on the land, and thanks to local activists and community volunteers, the donkeys have remained ever since. These animals are more than local livestock--they're a symbol of Palo Alto's community spirit, rural roots, and commitment to nature, drawing visitors who respect and adore their presence. On Sundays, you can join their 10am walks or help feed them at 5pm, 4pm (Fall/Winter). If you go any other time they will ignore you unless you dress up as a carrot. Be warned, a crowd will form so getting their early means nothing and the lack of order means every photo will have some ugly uncontrolled kid in it.

Very traditional Zen Center, at least for America. If you are looking for a democratically run…read moreorganization this is not it. The teacher is definitely the authority in all matters here. Having said that, it runs more or less smoothly and people treat each other kindly and respectfully. I have been doing a lot of general reading about Buddhism over the past year or so, and a friend…read moreconvinced me to stop reading and start doing, so last month I went to the Saturday morning beginner's class at Kannon Do. This center is affiliated with the San Francisco Zen Center, also founded by Zen Master Shunryu Suzuki,s o they are mainstream, excellent pedigree, nothing cult-ish here. Unlike the San Francisco Zen Center, the program for beginners was intense even for me, and I don't think my attention span is as gnat-like as some people. We began by meditating after about a ten minute talk. We sat for 20 minutes, did about 15-20 minutes of walking meditation, took a 10 minute break, did another 20 minutes of meditation, then another 10 of walking, then another 20 of sitting. I was overwhelmed. All the books I read said to start a few minutes at a time, and that even that would be a challenge. I was really struggling. And I had no idea what the purpose of the meditation was. What exactly had I been reading about? If I could focus, to what end? This class was mainly meant to get you started on focusing your mind, and getting your body used to the posture. The nun was very nice, the facility was clean, tranquil, and the gardens beautiful. But this was just too intense for me, and from what I understand, much more intense than the beginners classes at the SF Zen Center. The Wednesday night sessions also have beginner's session, followed by 40 minutes of sitting, followed by a service, then a dhamma talk, which I'm sure would be great to listen to, but I got the distinct impression you couldn't come for just the talk. I don't expect to be good at this overnight, or to gain understanding or insight even after a few years at it, but I think I may need more guidance and a more gentle beginning. If you want to start though, these people are nice and you'll have plenty of time to think, focus, and work on posture.
