We go here every year This time there was a woman at entrance asking every details about entry (I came to pick something from the car for baby) and she wanted to know if I was with someone. We were carrying diaper bag with water and snacks for our baby and she asked if it was cooler and insisted on checking before entry. When we exited we did not pick cherries and decided and not buy a bag this time. She came running and asked if we got green stickers. Upon explaining her we are not buying them, she gave us a long look and wanted to look in our babys diaper bag again. We showed her and went back to car. Not a pleasant experience. read more

We went to ranch 3 for cherry picking yesterday, it was a great experience!! We went there early, reached by 10, highly recommend doing that or even earlier, it gets crowded and also sunny and hot later. They had good system for parking, there were people directing us to spots etc that made things easier. it was got really crowded but they managed it well. The farm itself was quite nice, most people will start picking cherries in the first few trees and crowd that area, we eventually went back and right side and got to pick cherries peacefully The cherries itself were quite tasty, we ate a few and picked a lot as well. My 7 year old son enjoyed this activity a lot, most cherry trees were quite low and easy for the kids to pick. We picked the darkest maroon and not too huge cherries, we have seem them to be the best This ranch is open only for a few days and they open a few ranches throughout the season, I recommend signing up for email updates so you can go when it opens and it closed pretty quick as well once most cherries are picked Overall, highly recommend this farm, we have been going last two years. Last minute decided to pick cherries on our Memorial Day off! So glad the ranch was open and it was our first time here. We arrived at 10:30 and there was a super long line where some ppl were cutting before turning into the ranch. Honestly wish that they could put cones along the right lane to avoid this as it took up a chunk of our time. Parking was easy as workers guided you. Cherries are about 6.50 per lb. Upon entry, they give you plastic bags of you don't have your own. The cherries were sweet, mostly ripe, firm, and ready to pick. Definitely something fun to do! The lines to pay weren't bad. Who's not looking for a family friendly, fun and healthy activity to do in May and June? Because cherry picking is where it's at! U Pick Orchards hosts and runs cherry picking during cherry season for a number of the local farms in Morgan Hill. Each weekend you might be picking at a different farm because if you picked at the same farm every weekend there would be no more cherries the next week! The weekend we went it was Memorial Day and Borello Farms was featuring Coral Champagne Cherries. It was $6.25 a pound and you can eat cherries for free while you pick. There's a line to get into the parking lot because everyone else wants to pick cherries too. I saw little kids, I saw grand parents. It's something that the whole family can participate in. After you park, you walk up and they give you a large plastic bag and you can go to any tree and aisle that you want to go to on the open plot. One rule is... No step stools or ladders! Because of that, it is a little more advantageous to arrive earlier in the morning. As it gets later and more picked over, you have to reach higher to get the fat, juicy, scarlet cherries. We didn't have a ladder but I was able to lift the kids up to reach some of the ripe high bunches. We picked for about an hour and got a ton of big, dark cherries that were sweet, juicy and stored in the fridge easily for two weeks. Check out is quick, they have about 10 cashiers ready to help weigh you out. The price might be a little higher per pound than your supermarket cherry specials, but figure you get to eat a 1/2 lb of cherries while you pick and then you get to take home a pound or two or three of some luscious sweet cherries. This review is long overdue, but I had visited the Borello Farm for cherry picking with friends on a Saturday in June. We made it just in time for the rainier cherry season. It was a fun experience, and we all had a fantastic time despite the heat! Upon arrival, we noticed that the parking lot was already full. We followed the lead of the car in front of us and just parked parallel to one of the parking flag borders. By the time we finished cherry picking, the lot had a few open spots, and there were overflow cars parked across the street in unmarked areas.  The farm is well-organized, with portable bathrooms and a small wash area conveniently located at the front. We were provided with plastic bags for our cherries. The cherry picking itself was fun, especially when you're trying to pick the best cherries possible. The rainier cherries were ripe, and there were still quite a bit to pick despite it being several days since the ranch opening. After we finished picking, our haul was weighed, and we paid up front. The process was smooth and efficient. They accept credit card as well, which was convenient. TIP: They have several ranch locations with different cherry varieties that may open/close depending on where they are in the season and if other u-pickers have picked them all. Originally found out about this place after seeing U Pick Orchards at my local Farmer's Market. Cherries at the market were $9/lb. If you go pick them yourself though it's $6.25/lb for fresh off the tree fruits and a wonderful family activity. Parking lot is medium sized but fills up fast. Plan to get there early or be prepared to circle the lot and wait for folks to trickle out. We really enjoyed our time here. Probably won't be back often, but it's a nice place to go for the experience. Would recommend heading to the trees further back since these aren't as picked over. Plastic bags provided for your picking convenience. After you're done picking, go to the tent to weigh and pay for your fruit. Amazing cherries! Sweetest, most multidimensional flavored rainier cherries I've had! They are very popular but still have trees full of fruits to pick. Low branches for a toddler too. Year 2 of cherry picking & I loved it! This year we went to a Gilroy location (instead of Morgan Hill) and tried out sweetheart & laipin cherries. They are delicious straight off the tree! We must have eaten a pound each & went home with 2.5 pounds of cherries that lasted about a week. It's a super pleasant way to spend an hour in the AM. Family fun for all ages -- growing up, my family used to go all the way to Brentwood for cherry picking, so I was so happy to see that U Pick gave us option that was significantly closer to South Bay! I got to relive that childhood nostalgia without having to spend hours in the car. We stopped by over the Memorial weekend (right at the start of the season) and picked cherries of the coral varietal from Ranch 1. I believe the rest of the ranches with other varieties are opening in June! They have tons of parking, and the whole experience was organized. They provide bags for everyone, and the ranch was busy without being overly crowded. It's free admission, and you pay per pound of cherries. The cherries were really sweet, and we picked around ~$40 worth or ~7 pounds. Could you get cheaper fruit at the store? Sure... but it's not so much the cherries you're paying for as it is a nice afternoon activity. I went home and made a delicious cherry jam, and packaged up a ton to distribute to my friends. It warmed my heart to see all the kids with their parents and grandparents. It would've been so fun to have a picnic area or a food stall, similar to a pumpkin patch. The staff tried their best to keep everybody moving though the traffic coming out of the parking lot was pretty slow because of the congestion. As of May 2023, cherries are $6.25/lb. It's more costly than some of the other farms but you pay for proximity to the bay I guess. There are plenty of trees so getting cherries was not a problem. Great quality product? Check Family Friendly? Check Crowded as heck? Well unfortunately also check. We have been here twice. In 2022, we came here on opening day (I believe it was a Thursday) after we picked up the kids from school. It was amazing! Virtually no one there, tons of great product and it was only 30 minutes from our house. In 2023 however, the kids are older and we couldn't go after school. We had to go on the weekend. Oh man... The line to get in went for about half a mile. I do give them props for being so well organized it went fast, so if you do go, don't be too discouraged at the line. We went for the Corral Cherries and we will always go for that varietal. They're the perfect balance of sweet/tart (for our family). This place has all trees that are reachable by the kiddos which is a MAJOR plus and it means no ladders needed. Unfortunately it also means some of the best cherries you can't reach because well.... no ladders allowed. If you go towards the end of the season that means it's not great. I'd give this place 5 stars except they're significantly more expensive than their Brentwood counterparts. Is it worth the extra $ to stay here vs. driving up? Yes until the gas prices go up. Overall, great location, great product, and with the people I've interacted with here, great staff! read more

I really liked this place. Came in mid June towards the end of cherry season on Juneteenth, but there were still lots of cherries left. Some of the cherries were a bit sour; I still liked them but the friend I was with was more picky so we had fun hunting for the trees with sweeter bigger cherries. A really cute kid gave us instructions on where to find each variety. I couldn't really tell the difference between the sweethearts and lapin's though, they tasted and looked about the same. They have you bags to put the cherries in. I brought a plastic cup and some water to wash the cherries inside. Being in shelter in place brings new activities, and not sure why the reviews are so bad from last year! I called the Sunday before and the woman who answered the phone was so friendly and knowledgable! Got here around 10 am on Saturday, and it was packed!!! Luckily we got a spot in the parking lot rather than parking on the side. It wasn't quite easy to be socially distant when entering and paying, but we had to go to the back as the trees in front were already picked clean. Though they didn't have bing or rainier cherries available, the coral champagne cherries were delicious! At $5 a lb, it isn't cheaper than the market, but it was such a fun activity to get out and do! Will definitely be back another time! When I was young, my family used to have a cherry tree in the backyard. During every cherry season, we would climb on the tree to cherry pick. Oh man those were the days. Ranch #1 is open this weekend starting Thursday and we went on the Saturday morning. There're not a lot of cherries left already. Anything we got it takes very good though. I would have a suggestion on the parking situation - there're seems 10-ish teenager staffs redirecting the traffic however I think they could use some training especially on how to get people out of the parking lot. It took us half an hour to get out only find out most of the staff chatting and staring as if there's nothing else to do. Random cars merging or cut-in-lines, or even drove off-road out of patience. Overall it was nice to find someplace near South Bay so that we don't have to drive to Brentwood. read more

Great place to pick cherries not too far from civilization - but go early before 10am to get a parking spot. They charge $3 per person (including kids over 48") which is not stated on the website, plus $4 per pound which is a real steal. Note that cherries are not organic though. This is great fun as long as you're not in a hurry - but if you really need to get your cherries quickly, then you're better off going to a supermarket. The main reason to come here is to enjoy the experience and the outdoors. A couple years ago we made the long drive to Brentwood from the South Bay, and last year we were planning on doing the same when we learned from others that there was this place much closer to home. We first visited last year just a few months into the pandemic, and it was certainly a safe activity with ample space to escape the crowds, despite what the parking lot might look like. This year, we made our return visit. The three families in our so-called bubble came down here on this Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. We didn't arrive until close to 10:30am, and not surprisingly we spent a very long time in the car line to get into Ranch 5, which extended onto the shoulder of Monterey Highway. Once we got into the lot, there were several people directing visitors to parking spots that had just opened up. We grabbed our bags and delved into the grove. Despite the large number of people coming to pick cherries, the capacity of the lot does limit the crowd size roaming the orchard. But honestly, if they were able to accommodate five times as many people, I still don't think it would feel crowded at all, especially if you're willing to go farther than the first few rows. It didn't take us long to find several trees with large, ripe, and sweet Bings. One pair in our group ventured nearly half a mile into the orchard where they found themselves alone with hundred of trees to themselves. The cost during this visit was $5/lb, which is currently about $2 cheaper than what I saw at Safeway a couple days ago. I suspect I could find less expensive cherries at the Costco just a mile from home, but the time with friends and family and thrill of finding The One Tree with the most perfect cherries is unequaled. read more

What a fun outdoor activity during COVID! My husband and I came during a Friday afternoon during one of the grand opening days. I found out about this since I signed myself to be on the email distribution list last year. When we drove in, they had a few of their employees directing us on where to park. There were more people than I had expected; they made us drive in pretty far to a parking lot. The employees there were super nice! They greeted us immediately when we arrived and asked us how many bags we wanted. There were so many aisles of cherry trees! Pro tip: walk a few aisles down when you first arrive (most folks like to walk straight down the first aisle) - the aisles down are way less crowded and it's easier to find more cherries. It did seem like a lot of cherries were already picked, but if you find the right trees, there are still a ton of cherries. Make sure you pick the darker ones!! They're a lot sweeter than the bright red ones. We went a little crazy and ended up with about 15 lbs between the two of us. It's around $5/lb, so we paid around $70, which is what you'd pay for in stores... Except these cherries are way sweeter! I would highly recommend coming with family and friends! read more

Such an amazing spot! We enjoyed our time picking cherries at ranch #1 (which is now completely sold out for 2021). The staff was very friendly, explained us the process in under a minute and we were on our way to pick cherries . We had to walk a little bit further to pick as we arrive later in the day. The trees had plenty of fruit and we had a lot of fun walking through the orchards and picking the dark sweet cherries. On our way out, the fruit was weighted and we paid according to $5 per pound. The cherries tasted amazing and the whole experience was super memorable. #covid19 update: We've been twice to two of their orchards this month. One experience was awesome, and the other was not. For this year, there's no entrance fee and cherries are $5/pound. First, two weeks ago, we went to Ranch 1 - 10900 Monterey Road, Morgan Hill, CA 95037. Parking lot was full (on a weekday!) but we found a spot and once we got in the orchard, tons of space for social distancing. Everyone wore masks and were polite to each other. Great experience and we told all our friends! Today, we went to their Ranch 4 - 55 Castro Valley Road, Gilroy, CA 95020. Parking here was insanity - their tiny lot was packed so we had to find parking on the side of the road and schlep a far distance. At least we got a spot? When we left, the line to just turn down this road was about a mile down 101. Insane. People today inside the orchard were often being rude, not wearing masks, and even CLIMBING the trees! I'm not sure which experience is more typical, but we had such a great time at Ranch 1, and left Ranch 4 today very disappointed (though still with $30 of cherries). read more

Wow, so many cherries! Free parking, free entrance. $6.5 per lb per cherries. Some cherries are sweeter than other. The only improvement I would recommend is on parking, it was long line to get in but moving. There was a long waiting line to exit the location as well and move pretty slow. Perhaps, moving the cashier line in front of the existing is better. Some guests left cherries on the ground, kind of wasteful. read more
