Wells Fargo Bank - Banks & Credit Unions Near Me - Spokane, Washington

Once in awhile, you encounter an employee who is so competent, so good at what they do, that it sort of takes you off guard. My wife and I had that experience at this Wells Fargo branch. This review is about one excellent employee, Tyrrell Johnson. I will be as concise as possible, but I need to explain a bit of background. My wife and I were buying a home in another state. We are originally from Seattle, but had started a month long, lazy road trip across the country. On the day of the closing, we happened to be in Spokane. We had a person with power of attorney at the closing, so we didn't need to be there. Because we banked with Wells Fargo and were getting our mortgage through WF, we had been told (not by a WF employee I should point out....) that there was no need to send funds for the closing. We were told that the funds would be automatically drawn from our accounts. This turned out to be false! On the day of the closing, we get a call from the title company asking where our funds were. We absolutely freaked, because getting a deal together on this house had been a train wreck, and we OH SO did not want another delay in the closing. In a panic, we race from our hotel to the nearest WF branch. It is at this point in our story fair reader, that we are introduced to our hero, Tyrrell Johnson. First off, he his incredibly friendly and listened carefully to the two of us sputtering in unison about the problem. While he's listening and asking us questions, he notices that our 9 year old daughter is sitting there bored, so he gets out an activity book and some crayons and gives them too her, and she was happy. We had been hoping to simply wire the money, but it turns out that takes a few days, so it wouldn't work. Tyrrell asked us about the title companies bank, and it turns out they bank with Chase. *Ding*, you could see a light bulb go on. He arranged with the people at Chase for us to simply walk a cashiers check over to the nearby Chase branch, and they could deposit it directly in the title companies account. He called Chase, spoke with their manager, spoke with the title company, and had his manager contact Chase on our behalf. They cut us a cashiers check, and given the large amounts of money involved, I was hoping for one of those giant checks they give people when they win the lottery:D Alas,it was a simple computer printed check. We walked the check over to Chase and deposited it, and got a call 5 minutes later from the title company. Done and DONE. It worked! What could have been an absolute disaster was handled with ingenuity and professionalism. Tyrrell, you ROCK. Thank you! read more

I opened an account with Norwest Bank 20+ years ago. It has since become Wells Fargo. After moving to Spokane 7 years ago, I bank almost exclusively at this downtown branch. I've had both good and not-so-good experiences here. As is often the case, there are those employees who are top-notch, and those who are just tolerating their jobs. My worst experience was needing a notary public stamp/signature on some paperwork. First time in 20 years of banking there that I had needed this service and they wanted to charge me $10. I ended up going across the street and using Washington Trust bank for which I have no account and they did it for free. My other big complaint about this branch is the turn-over rate. I'm guessing the average teller lasts about two to three months and the manager about a year or two. Some of the fast food joints downtown have a much more stable work force then this branch. The floor staff is usually professional and helpful although they will always try and sell you additional services. read more

While dealing with my late father in laws estate the bank decided to also declare that husband was dead, locking his online banking and cancelling his debit card. I have no idea how they even came to this conclusion or took these actions without our authorization. My husband is still very much alive. As a result, all of our automatic bill payments were suspended. We are still dealing with this unnecessary situation. Wells Fargo has created a huge problem for us they don't seem to care much about rectifying it. read more

I have been banking with Wells Fargo for two decades. I have decided to switch banks for two reasons. About 20 years ago, I tried to cash my paycheck at Wells Fargo Bank. They had recently taken over my original bank called Norwest. Although, I had a checking account in good standing, they refused to cash my meager paycheck. My account was in good standing. My employer was a large company, still I faced refusal to simply cash my paycheck. I still can't understand this policy. I guess they wanted me to deposit my check into my checking account and write a large series of small checks or make ATM withdrawals. Recently, Wells Fargo purchased my auto lender, Wachovia. I have paid off much of the car loan. However, I was hoping to refinance and extend the payment period. I would get lower payments and Wells Fargo would receive interest payments over a longer period of time. Sounds like a win/win to me. When I went in to sign my documentation, I noticed the interest rate had changed to double the current amount. Wisely, I refused to sign the documents. I drove directly to a different bank and received a loan at the original interest rate. The rate is half of what Wells Fargo wanted to charge me. The final straw was the rude treatment I received over the phone from Wells Fargo. They seemed peeved that I would be asking for a document stating the current balance I owe. Maybe it is because they know I am taking that document straight into a new lender. I can't wait to get Wells Fargo out of my life. read more

I will never become a member of your bank. I have an aversion to financial institutions who charge ridiculous fees for no sound reason. I took a check, from a prominent local institution, drawn on your bank to be cashed. Technically, to be paid, since the funds are drawn on you. No, I do not have an account with you, but after dutifully showing 2 forms of ID AND providing a thumb print, I was then informed of the $7.50 fee for you charge to pay your own check to me! I've been through this before with other banks (this is the highest fee I've ever been charged however). It's actually comical asking staff why they are charging this fee since the funds are verified (they're drawn on YOU) and I provided ample ID and hearing their ill-informed responses. I was eventually referred to a "banker" who didn't even bother to try and answer my question, but enthusiastically took down my phone number, with the promise to get an answer and call me back. (Side note: he even tried at that point to sell me on moving my banking to WF. Under other circumstances I would have burst out laughing). Four days later, and still no call. My opinion: just because you CAN charge such fees does not mean you SHOULD. Another solid reason to stick with my venerable Credit Union! read more

Wells Fargo Insurance in Spokane, Washington does not care. I have had my seven (7) policies insured with Wells Fargo Insurance even before they purchased my policies from my previous agent. I suddenly was told by the Spokane office that it is far less expensive to assign me to a call center in Minneapolis instead of servicing my accounts locally. Seems like something a bank does as they originate a loan and then sell it off once they are tired of servicing your account. I was told to work with a Matthew Seaton in their Midwest call center and found him to have an inability to return calls, emails, etc. I had to cancel one of my seven (7) insurance policies with Safeco Insurance and left emails and phone messages with him with no response. Four (4) business days I decided to call Safeco myself and gave them my policy number of the subject property and they confirmed that they canceled my insurance on that one (1) policy. Today, five days after trying to contact Matthew Seaton, he emailed me and said that my policy was, "still in force." How could this be when I cancelled it myself with Safeco Insurance? I just called and each and every other policy other than the one I wanted to cancel was now non-existent. No more vehicle insurance, my home is not covered, my rental properties are not covered, my umbrella policy has been cancelled, etc. I called the Spokane office and also reached out to Matthew Seaton in addition to a high up supervisor and here I sit, uninsured, uninspired, and wondering how I am going to get home without insurance. Wells Fargo Insurance does not care, and made their money selling me the insurance without the service that goes along with my account. Rick read more

My kids received a birthday check from their great grandparents written off of Wells Fargo, and seeing as how I bank with USAA, I figured I'd just cash it through WF and give the kids the cash instead of having to deposit it into my USAA account through my phone app, and then hit up an ATM and pay a fee, blah blah blah. Went into this branch yesterday to cash it since I had other stuff to do nearby. There was no line, no pressure to open an account, and they had no problem at all cashing it with my drivers license and my debit card as ID. It took me longer to find a parking spot than it did to get the check cashed, which was a refreshing change from other banks who like to harass you and treat you like a common criminal when you present them with one of their own checks. read more

Initially I was hesitant to open with the bank, and for good reason to "my belief". 15 years ago my grandmother tried to help establish my credit by co-signing a loan. She is like the perfect account holder never less than a substantial amount, she never over drew, and always paid bills on time. This was in the state of MS not WA for the record. Not only did they not approve the loan they were very unprofessional. So to fast forward 15 years later. I am in the situation where the business I co own needs a checking account. We tried several banks none just to seem like "home". A customer of ours had written a check and we were with out an account. He suggested trying WELLS FARGO. Remembering back I was skeptical. So I called and was directed to Tyrrell Johnson. We set up an appointment to just talk. He was very polite and professional. Complete opposite of my initial experience with the company. So when we sat down he listened to what we needed and what we had going on. introduced us to everyone. That made it feel like family. With all the troubles ups and downs of being a business owner he is there every step of the way in our corner not pointing fingers just getting down to why something happened and not just assuming.
