I don't think I can say enough good things, just go see her, skip the big schmancy spas downtown and opt for a really good massage a little ways outside the hustle and bustle by a seriously professional and skilled woman! I looked at a lot of places before Yelp offered up this gem, she's not right in the middle of it all which I liked. It was a bit of a hike down some windy roads through some lovely neighbourhoods, and by hike I mean all of like like 2 miles from the giant Whole Foods downtown... It wasn't a huge list of practitioners and options to choose from which I liked. One amazing masseuse with a few options for therapy which she then customised to my needs. Too many options always makes me anxious, and I'm going there to relax after all. She asked great questions to understand my preferences and trouble areas. Her accommodations were clean, well appointed, and perfectly comfortable. Loved her music - I'm now adding Boards of Canada to my Spotify list! Pro tip - if you feel like you're parking in front of someone's apartment when you arrive, don't fret, that's just what that business complex looks like :) And read the emails, she includes super thoughtful directions on how to get there and where to park! She is a pleasure to talk to and really takes the time to get to know you and what your body needs with her consultations before each massage. In my mind, this is what sets her apart from other massages that I've experienced. I really appreciate that she excels at providing a physically therapeutic and completely relaxing massage at the same time, because I'm very physically active and often overly stressed/high-strung. In addition, her request for no tips is refreshing and it is really nice to not have to think about that (with other massage therapists I tend to worry about whether my tip amounts are appropriate which isn't ideal in my relaxed post-massage state). I am a massage therapist and this is who I go to for bodywork. Ilse perfectly balances therapeutic bodywork with relaxation. She expertly finds and melts all of the bundled knots of stress and tension, intuitively working at just the right level of pressure. With that said, she is also very mindful of working all of the areas discussed in your intake and periodically checks in to make sure that you are receiving adequate pressure. 90 minutes with Ilse once a month helps me reset by body and mind. She is so intentional and empathetic - she has a sixth sense and knows exactly where I'm carrying tension and why. She gently builds up pressure and got so deep into my shoulders and neck without it feeling painful. Ilse is a superb masseuse. She's intuitive and has strong caring hands to get knots out without making it hurt. The eclectic relaxing music, heated table and hot massage towels were an unexpected bonus. It was nice to have quality chatting when I wanted it and total comfort just quietly enjoying the massage as well, without any awkwardness.
