We called Welter Construction after a hail storm to come look at my siding. Roger came and evaluated the home and let me know what he thought the insurance would approve. (His company had replaced our roof 3 years earlier for the owners of the home before awe bought it). Not only did he fit us in during a very busy time but he also came back to walk with the insurance inspectors when they were here a few days later. He worked with my insurance company to get my siding replaced and fully covered. I was highly impressed with his crew who did the actual work. They were courteous, kind, and efficient. Zach his project manager was quick to reply to any questions or concerns. Welter has turned a 15' x 15' addition with small deck from a contracted 4-6 week project into a 14 month project from hell. From the beginning the blueprint didn't tie the addition to the house, they didn't order materials when they said, cut open my roof and left exposed causing water damage, used all of my new house touch up paint as primer, left trash across the street without a dumpster, stored materials on my lawn killing the lawn, ordered the wrong size windows, cut open the walls before confirming window sizes, hanging tacky plywood, and demanding payments before work was complete. They take your 40% deposit and then disappear for months at a time. They don't answer the phone or return emails and texts in a timely manner, and when they do they lie. They don't honor what they say, and go back on their word demanding exorbitant change orders to do work if not explicitly documented in plans. They use subcontractors busy working on other projects, and don't show up when they say and don't clean up after themselves. Roger the owner is a legend in his own mind, and is the most unprofessional person to his subs and clients. He's seeking final payment before state electrical and city inspection. He's censured by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry for multiple bad business practices. Don't believe what his salesman say, they only want your deposit to keep his business afloat. Still waiting for project completion and to pass inspection. It's been over 2 months since anyone worked or contacted us on the project. read more

Our experience with Welter construction this past year was hellacious, to say the least. There were many times when we were left speechless at how we, paying clients, were being treated, spoken to, and how they were handling our situation. In an attempt to keep this brief here is a summary of our experience. The original project manager, Ethan, was one of the worst PMs we have ever worked with. His words mean nothing - he says he will show up at X time on X date and when you call to see where he is he forgot about it. We later learned we were not the only ones and that many others (with much bigger projects) were being treated the same way. After being left to handle an inspection ourselves, because he "forgot," we made the decision to no longer speak with Ethan and moved our communication to Brandon, who was also working on our project. Brandon's communication was much better and was the saving grace in this entire experience. Do yourself a favor and go with the other bids if you come across Welter construction in your searches. The contract states they will dispose of all trash, which is false, as well as HORRIBLE communication (don't expect Rodger, the owner, to ever pick up the phone or call you back) until of course it is time to collect payment! If you hire this company, be prepared for terrible communication, forgetfulness, blaming others, a lot of frustration, failed inspections due to a lack of attention to detail, cigarette buds INSIDE + throughout your property, and an owner who will belittle your complaints and concerns into a, and I quote, "that is just construction" statement. The owner will treat you like garbage and next to Ethan, is one of the most unprofessional people we have ever met. It makes sense how I am later reading how he has multiple complaints to the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry for bad business practices. Looking back, this was the worst investment decision we made throughout the duration of our project. When we share our story with other contractors we hired, they are appalled. The stress that resulted from working with this company is incomparable. Our friends, family, and neighbors are all aware of our experience and to never hire this company for future projects. This company doesn't deserve one star!!!! INSURANCE SCAMMERS Called Welter Construction to repair floors in my kitchen after a pipe burst. Save yourself the headache, they will try and screw your insurance company. $17000 quote for a hole in the middle of my kitchen floor, then when I tried to have them meet with my insurance adjuster. The day before they were to meet with us they decided they weren't doing the job. Which they never bothered to call, I called them. We ended up doing the work with help from family "my father is a carpenter" for around $2000. We didn't have to move or replace cabinets like Welter said we had to, and the floor looks amazing. This company is a SCAM, I wouldn't recommend them for anything, especially if you have an insurance claim, and if you do, MAKE SURE you have an insurance adjuster there at the time of the "quote" "bid" read more

I hired Welter Construction after a hail storm went through. He quoted both our home and my in-laws home. We hired Roger to do the work. He only did part of the work at my in-laws and then on short notice while he was driving to my in-laws home announced he was coming to get final payment. He showed up and insisted on a final payment for the full quote including work he hadn't done. We refused to pay him as the roof inspection hadn't been completed. After talking to the insurance company we determined what my in-laws actually owed and convinced Roger of that. Do not trust Roger. If you have hired him in the past check to see if you only paid for the work he actually did complete and not the entire quote. read more

Welter Construction came to Colorado after a hail storm. I was one of the suckers that hired them to do my roof. Not only did it take them 6 months to complete the work, but they never passed a final inspection in spite of Roger telling me directly they had gotten one and passed. I agree with the other 1 STAR reviews on this site. Do not trust Roger. Take your business elsewhere. I have 2 inspection reports that say FAIL and now have to go to the Colorado Attorney General to try to get these fixes done. Third party contractor that was getting paid $60 per square was sent to do our roof, and Welter never told us they were coming. They showed up at 6:45 and started working and needed me to move cars etc, I had no idea they were coming. Did not pass inspection, horrible workmanship, incorrect installation, we are actually hiring Owens Corning to come out and Inspect Poor installation of their product. Very unprofessional. Looks like they have been ripping people off left and right. They can take me to court for the second half of payment...they will lose, we will most likely be re-doing the roof ourselves. I contracted Welter Construction to build a garage for me, they said they can do it in months, but it's been 14 months with my $11,000.00 insurance money that they have, but the garage is still unfinished. My experience with this Construction company has been less than satisfactory and I would not recommend this company for any job you have. In having my roof replaced, they took for ever in the job completion and only after continuous "prodding". They hire out to subcontractors and make promises that they don't keep. They don't return your calls or reply to emails and when they do contact you, they are more interested obtaining your money than properly doing the job, with permits, inspections, and dealing with a valid point of contact. If you should hire this company, make sure you read their contract, especially concerning checks and funds from your insurance. They want your money before they do the job. I worked for Roger on and off for the better part of 10 years, more than anyone else in the history of his company. Some of the bad reviews that I see online are my customers. Something I came to learn about Roger, I've rarely met anyone as greedy. He sees customers for what he can get out of them. I brought many of my own friends and aquaintances to him as customers, begging him to treat them well. Most of the time the job did not go well and I even lost some long time friendships over it. Recently, a widow customer of mine called me to say her roof was leaking. I had brought her to Welter Cons for her roofing job. She was easily inside the 1 year workmanship warranty time frame. Roger would not even go out to inspect her job nor return my phone calls. (I have left Welter Cons for good). When I texted Roger's Production Manager, Zach, he told me that they would charge her $500 an hour, three hour minimum. He diagnosed her leaking issue without seeing pictures or going to the job site. This was his way of telling both of us to go away. In fact, he said after sending me that response that he was now blocking my phone number. Roger owes so many suppliers hundreds of thousands of dollars that it is often difficult to obtain supplies to finish jobs. Since Roger has been in business for years, he considers himself to be a survivor. In fact, it is the worst run company that I've ever been a part of. He lied to me for months about ordering tile work for a job in Florida. He never did, he spent that customer's money on other things. In fact, it's coming up to the one year anniversary date for when I collected funds on that job, and it's still not done. He also was operating without a license in Florida, and lied about having obtained a proper DBA to do business in Florida, putting myself at legal risk. I once considered him a friend, but by seeing how he treats people over the years, I now know he will not change. He needs to be out of this industry. Hired Welter Construction to remodel after we had some water damage in our home. Timeline of when work would start dragged on and on. We were thrilled once the work finally began and were told it would only take a few weeks. 7 months after hiring this company we finally had to go a different way as Roger either did not return calls/texts for weeks at a time or would schedule meetings that he would then cancel an hour prior. He always had an excuse for why things were not progressing or would tell us whatever we wanted to hear but did not follow through.The work that was completed was terrible workmanship. The tile work was amateur at best, leaving crumbling and cracked gout around my bathtub. The blue liner that the new tub comes with was not even taken off properly and instead was grouted over as pieces of it are sticking through the grout. The faucet and handle in our shower were installed crooked. The flooring was left with gaps by the door frames. The drywall next to the tub was cut into from the top of the tub to the floor. This was left this way. They then replaced the trim without fixing the drywall or the gaps in the flooring. When this was all pointed out to Roger he stated that this is not the work that his company does and that it would be taken care of, though it never was. Three months went by from the time he made this statement until the time we finally decided to move on. Now we are left not only with all of the work they never even started but needing to clean up the disaster they left behind with the work they did as well. Be warned! read more

BEWARE! Hired this company for a relatively small job. What work was completed was done very poorly. New flooring was left with gaps where they should butt up to or under door frames and even larger gaps between the flooring and walls in the closet. Tile job was left with cracked and crumbling grout. Plumbing fixtures installed crooked. Incredibly poor communication from the company. A job we were told would take a couple weeks dragged on for over 6 months and was not completed. Owner will tell you whatever you want to hear when you discuss poor workmanship and timing of project and yet does nothing to remedy the situation. After many months of long periods of on and off communication and being tired of all but begging this company to complete work we went elsewhere. I did brick work for Welter Construction 120 days ago and he still owes me almost $7000! The work was bid, accepted, and invoice approved by Kevin their project manager at the time. Welter had already been paid by the insurance company for the allotted amount for the work plus $3000 they passed on to the estimate! Roger is a coward and is dodging my calls and won't return my calls. I had to put a lien on the home today and I feel bad but they were trying to save money by hiring someone not local and now they are regretting it.
