Hey Southern California Edison! How many parks in Southern California do you maintain?…read more The Chelan PUD has built 15 parks covering 700 acres around the Chelan County Waterways. The parks were developed under recreation plans required by the federal government as part of the PUD's licenses to operate the Rocky Reach, Rock Island, and Lake Chelan hydro projects. Walla Walla Point Park is one of the parks that the Chelan PUD built and maintains. I visited the park at the end of December 2022. There wasn't much to see in the park as everything was covered by about a foot of snow. There are supposed to be 4 softball/soccer fields here when it isn't covered in snow. There are supposed to be tennis and volleyball courts and a lot of green grass. The trail around the park along the river was nice. The trails were all paved. The snow was removed from the trail by the PUD. If you walk far enough, you can get to the Lindston Barn. The parking lot to the park was also cleared of snow. They have a electric car charging station that was free of charge to the public. It is a nice park whether it is summer or winter. The answer to the question above? ZERO! Come visit this park and see what hydro power can do for you.

BUT HUGE INCONVENIENCE WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD NOISE: First, the Orchard company nearby (just above the campground) makes noise all day and night!! Then you have the traffic noise of the Highway 2. To finish, you have the train passing by!! You get used to it but really wished it was quieter! WEAR EARPLUGS!! To top it off, it was mowing day, so we had the noise of the tractor mowing grass around where we were the whole day (9:00-4:00pm)!

Be aware that this beautiful grass is beautiful beautiful it is watered daily. Best to review the sprinkler watering table on the community billboard...you don't want to be surprised when your section sprinkler's turn on. Bathrooms are clean, showers are clean. The showers take a special token...get them at the token machine ... main entry and also at the group campground. The lake is remarkable. It's popular so it can get busy at the swim area. Have fun...!!!

I spent a few hours in the early evening and the following morning walking along the handicapped accessible path. I believe there are currently 88 sculptures with most of them available for purchase though a few are owned by the Art on the Avenues organization. The park attracts both young and old.

I had bookmarked a state park in Wenatchee, but as we were driving into town I noticed this park alongside the mighty Columbia so we drove in to check it out. This is a very large park with immense, shaded grassy areas, a boat launch, and a large, roped-off swimming area. We were there on a hot Saturday afternoon and the park was not at all crowded - there were a few families enjoying the river, but it almost seemed like we had stumbled upon a secret place that not many people know about. There's no fee to use the park, parking is free, and there's a nice bathroom area to change in. I was impressed at how clean the entire place was, it is obviously very well maintained. It was hard to leave and get back on the road for the long drive ahead!

Safety signs are posted along the parks trail, especially for bikers regarding speed and notifying pedestrians when one is nearby by or coming up from behind. Most adhered to the rules but a few riders went wizzing by me and frankly scared the $@&# out of me. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful park and worthy of a stop when in the area. Its path runs very near the Pybus Public Market, so eats and drinks are near by. Big plus for me.

This is one of the few parks in downtown Wenatchee and is right by the water. It's a short trail, so not much of a walk (about a mile). But really what you come here for is the view of the Columbia River, which is beautiful. Some amenities include a restroom, water fountain, some picnic benches and tables, and there was a boat moorage and a two-lane boat launch. During my visit there wasn't anyone in the water, and when I walked on the boat moorage, there were a few people laying out on it. If you're staying in downtown Wenatchee - it's conveniently located to all businesses, including the Pybus Market. I also liked that it was close to the walking bridge where my hotel was by, to get a view over the railway of Wenatchee. Overall, visit for a brief stroll along the Columbia.

And this dam overlook is no exception. With sweeping views up and down the Columbia River, a trail, interpretive signage, a display of ancient hieroglyphs and even a ginormous dam turbine there is literally something for every dam visitor. With plenty of dam parking, a large dam restroom facility and several lovely places for a dam picnic the Wells overlook is more than just an interesting dam stop - it doubles as a rest area and a place to stretch the ol' legs while driving through the Okanagan.

This review is for the recreation area just off SR 20 as I desperately needed a place to use the bathroom after a very long drive. The Wells Dam serves a source of hydroelectric energy and can pass a flood of over 8,800,000 gallons of water per second! It is also an important project that ensures the safe passage of migrating Salmon and Steelhead through the dams and has a fish ladder that allows them to get to the other side. It also allows scientists to catch some for studying (and maybe eating as well). The Wells Dam project also dedicates its time to hatching/breeding a variety of fish such as land-locked Chinook, White Sturgeon, Trout and Kokanee. It was deserted when we got there on a weekday around noon and there was a nice parking lot, a clean bathroom (hooray!), donated doggie bags for scooping your dog's poop, an impressive view of the dam and the surroundings and lots of signage. A lot of money and thought went into this rest stop for tourists and/or locals frequenting the area. It would be a nice place for a picnic under their pavilions for a quick lunch, a bathroom break in clean non-porta potty toilet, a photo op and a bit of history to help fill your afternoon with memories.

The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is a dense Washington forest with extensive networks of…read moretrails and raging rivers. We visited the forest in June when the snow was melting and there were brief rain showers everyday. Most creeks and rivers, especially the Wenatchee River, were overflowing their banks, with river water above the level of green grasses and bushes. The highly variable nature of the rivers made me wonder how difficult it would be for the home owners living just a few feet above their June high water mark. On a Wenatchee River rafting trip, a guide pointed out a high water mark when the river was at record levels during her lifetime. This must've been 10-15 feet above the already high water and would've destroyed many homes. Many of the trails in the National Forest are very long, requiring camping gear to complete the trail. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to complete any of these multiday treks, but I was satisfied with a taste of the trails in the area. The trails were generally quality from the start so I was never worried about only getting in a 3 mile hike if time was limited. Even a 3 mile hike would turn into a good workout because most of the trails had a steep incline. We were essentially stair climbing on many of the trails. It was hard but we also benefited from the incredible views. The views near the Leavenworth area were fruit trees and grapevines on the valley floor, steep pine trees ascending the mountainsides, with snowcapped peaks on the tops of mountains or on mountaintops in the background.

Visited the forest with a friend while there this summer…read more The forest is over 4 million acres in size. I saw info posted that you can get a permit to cut your own Christmas tree and gather mushrooms out here. Be careful as a lot of this area is closed now and has been closed for some time due to forest fires. Check to see what is open and when before going to visit.
