Driving distance took me about 1 hour 30-40 mins from SLC. I used Waze GPS and it got me there accurately. There was a rest area before the Bonneville exit. The rest area had a nice scenic view of the salt flats (much whiter than the bonneville). When arriving there, you will see the Bonnevielle Salt Flats sign for a nice pictuire pose. When done, you can drive along the salt flats and take even more pictures without any distractions from other visitors. The scenic view was nature at its finest. When visiting SLC, it's a destination worth to check out once in a lifetime.

On my way to Twin Falls, ID, I stopped to check out the tree sculpture. There's something…read moreintriguing about it--set on the salt flats, low mountains, and complete isolation. It gave me similar vibes to Bombay Beach at the Salton Sea (worth a visit if you're into art and ever near Joshua Tree or Palm Springs, CA). I enjoyed the quiet solitude there. Hardly anyone around...just peaceful stillness and the simple satisfaction of walking on the white salt crust. The tree was a gentle reminder to stay rooted/grounded in life; and the red signs installed next to it was a playful reminder to take risks, trust my luck, and appreciate how far I've come. On this road trip, it felt like life's way of saying I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, so I should keep going and enjoy the ride.

[West Wendover UT|NV]…read more The Utah|Nevada Stateline in West Wendover is pretty cool because despite the town being small and remote, each side of the States is a town with casinos (NV side), food and entertainment. Not much shopping here, though. You will not see a state welcome sign when crossing the stateline, the State names are painted on the street, with a line separating Nevada and Utah. It's kind of hard to see from the ground but you get a better view from inside the skybridge. Also, there is a one hour time zone difference, currently Utah is on MDT (Mountain Daylight Time). On the Nevada side are five casinos: Montego Bay, Peppermill, Rainbow, Red Garter and Wendover Nugget. In Utah are two annual events that occur at the Bonneville Salt Flats -- land speed racing at Bonneville Speedway during Speed Week and World of Speed. Other events at the salt flats besides auto racing are Salt Flats 100 (ultra marathon), Hellfire and the US Flight Archery Nationals Competition. Stopped to stay the night while on our way to Reno. We…read morealways stay at a Peppermill while in Reno so thought we'd give this one a try. Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Got us checked in quickly . Room is nice and comfortable. Ate dinner at the Mexican restaurant inside the casino. Played the slot machines for several hours. Floor staff were also very nice. By contrast.... Roberto at the bar closest to the service and front desk was horrible. Couldn't get my player card to work while trying to play a poker machine and he continued to harass us after we ordered a beer. We had played several hours and had no problems on the floor with the 2 beers we had. He continued to hover and continually asks" are you gonna play , buddy?" Over and over. We were playing but had a glitch with the card not reading my loaded $ on the player card. Asked what the deal was.... we're trying to get the card to work. He said" they are watching" you need to be playing to have a beer. True and also we were playing. Just having a card issue. Finally just told him to take the beer back and went to the front desk to get a new card. Didn't come to be harassed and treated rudely by the bartender. We are paying for a room, ate dinner at the restaurant, playing the slots all day and he was very out of line. Don't go to the bar where Roberto works!

I told her I was headed to the roulette table and she said that was ok then. 30 minutes later she showed up and asked if I wanted a drink. I reminded her I already gave her 10.00 for one and she denied it. I said you don't remember standing just 10 feet from here you don't remember. At that time another gal showed up conveniently and asked if she could help. I told her the story and she immediately took the cocktail waitresses side and said they have cameras to look at if needed. I asked to look at it then and showed her the spot she took my money and the time. She then asked me to leave the casino. It was only 10 bucks but it was the principal. If people are going through hard times you don't need to steel from others. There was 8 of us from Montana that stayed down there for a week for the first time and will be the last time. My advice definitely get your drink first like they normally would do.

The girl that checked us in put us in rooms that required a specific elevator and a different…read morehallway to another elevator to get to. Did she explain how to get to our rooms? No, she did not. We asked a man with a badge who worked there to help guide us and he was rude. When we asked for directions to one of the restaurants the girl at the front desk neglected to tell us that the restaurant was closed that night. Another girl at the desk inserted herself into the situation and was rude and raised her voice at us. Both rooms my family stayed in had air conditioners that were incredulous when they kicked on. Thank goodness I never have to return to Wendover again.
