In the seven years that I have dealt with the company for both my personal and small business needs, I've never had any problems with them. However, I will add that I am highly disappointed with their corporate office. Their customer service and management support systems are very low-quality. Their corporate leaders treat all customers, as well as employees, like numbers instead of individuals. Although the management is excellent, they still have a high employee turnover rate due to low wages and salaries, no benefits packages, and seasonal work. Although this office has these obstacles, they work very diligently for the customers, and have very positive attitudes.

I was a proud supporter and patron of Liberty Tax Red Lion for 2 years- 2014 and 2015. In 2014, I…read moreattended a trade school. When asked about schooling, I told the tax preparer all of the details, including that it wasn't an accredited school, and therefore could not supply a 1099 Form. She requested a copy of my payment for school, which I provided, and it was filed. Two years later on July 30th, I received a letter from the IRS stating that there is an error on my 2014 Tax Return concerning my education credit. I called the IRS and they stated that the school is not shown as accredited, and should not have been filed. I called Liberty Tax, both local and corporate, and was told the same. If this is correct, then why was it filed in the first place? So now I have to pay $2,447 back to the IRS, which I don't have. Liberty Tax's response? "You can set up a payment plan." I shouldn't HAVE to set up a payment plan. Isn't that WHY people utilize these Tax Companies?? To make sure that their taxes are done CORRECTLY? If the preparer has said to me, "No, we can't file your schooling because it's not an accredited institution," I would have been fine with that. A mistake was made by YOUR staff. Liberty Tax has refunded my tax preparation fee, penalties, and IRS fees. When I went to pick up the check, the Operations Supervisor apologized for THEIR mistake, gave me an apple pie (which I thought was inappropriate), and "gifted" me with a free tax preparation for next year. I called corporate again, and explained that I was apologized to for THEIR mistake, and gifted with an apple pie and a coupon. I wanted to confirm that this was truly ALL that could be done. The answer was yes. Previous calls that were made to corporate were not logged, so the representative had no idea what I was talking about. I don't understand why a mistake that was made on their behalf, is now a punishment to me. I trusted Liberty Tax with my money, and now I have to figure out how to pay this amount back. What a disappointment.
