Salt-beef and gherkin to be exact. As you know I don't eat meat, but heck, that bread seemed awesome from the tomatoes I snaffled and my flat-hunting companion was all kinds of happy. Now, we come to the other thing. Thing two. The coffee. The oozing black nectar of the jittery gods. This was my area. I have to say, Engine House, bravo. If you can give me an early lunchtime caffeine high amidst me going back and forth between Deansgate, Castlefield and this little edge of the Oxford Road Corridor no one else sees taking in apartment buildings and living dimensions and kitchen units and such on very little sleep, then I commend you. And considering to eat that sandwich at the table would have cost a fiver alone, to take out, that and the coffee came to £4.50. Takeaway it is! We enjoyed the New Mexico pancake, which I'd definitely recommend - great flavours and very filling. On my second visit, we were seated immediately, and decided what to order within 30 seconds. Unfortunately no one came to take our order, and we had trouble flagging down a staff member due to the position of our table behind a partition wall. Eventually, a lovely staff member named Lynne came over, advised she'd seen us sit down a while ago and was sorry that we hadn't been served. She immediately told us our meal would be free of charge, and continued to serve us very quickly for the rest of our visit. I had the Cookie Monster pancake, which was delicious but, again, very filling - I'll likely have the smaller portion next time. I would always recommend The Pancake House, and will take advantage of their great food every time I visit Center Parcs.

Muffin Break is a small chain, operating on a franchise model in most parts and the store did have a feel to it, the staff member working seemed distracted but she did also seem friendly/helpful whenever I wanted to ask a question or make a purchase, so that was okay. The opening hours of the cafe is also puzzling as it closes at 5:30 pm which is much earlier than the rest of the mall, which sometimes stays open until 8 pm: it makes little sense. I chose the last gluten-free muffin of the day, the chocolate and strawberry muffin, it was pretty cheap at £2.40 which was even £0.10 cheaper than their Chester store however I wasn't too impressed, the chocolate chips had a strange taste too and I don't think it went well with the strawberries, while I did like the combination of white and milk chocolate as icing and the regular part of the muffin without the chocolate chips was okay, I wasn't too impressed overall. Better than the Chester store, but that wouldn't be hard. Perhaps with some improvements to ensure staff members don't become sidetracked and making sure every part of the muffin is of sufficient quality this place can become more than the second-best coffee shop in the shopping centre (There isn't that many either so second-best isn't entierly brilliant). 2*

My only complaint is that there muffin mix is about pricey but overall a great cafe. My personal favourite is Mars bar and is what I usually order but I would also recommend Oreo and chocolate chip flavours.
