Communication isn't great. Ordered a tree for my friend. Never received a confirmation email or anyone calling to schedule a delivery. I sent a message from the website and then I called to follow up twice ...they were indifferent and unavailable. Seemed like I was speaking with teenagers both times. The tree just showed up randomly on my friend's doorstep without any warning. I saw these negative reviews from years ago but wanted to give them a chance...seems like things haven't changed I guess. read more

I was completely taken a back at all the plant varieties in what seems like a small building off of 5. They had plants I had never heard of and the best part they are knowledgeable on what they sell. Which saves you hours of reading about the ways you should care for your plant . Another great thing is they will repot your plant for you in the your purchased pot! read more

Austin from the Oakville store delivered and planted 10 grasses and did an excellent job. He left the area clean and did the plantings quickly. They look beautiful! He also gave us instructions for how often and much to water the plantings. The young lady who I ordered the plants from was also very efficient in takong and scheduling the order. read more

FFF--- for customer service at Charlotte Hall location!!! - Mike the Manager is an ASS! You sell me a tree, after 3 weeks it is looking like it is practically DEAD - come to your store today (4/22), a replacement is offered, then clearly told there is only "one replacement per store policy" - that's right no warranty on the replacement - SMH - Manager says "clearly you killed the tree", funny he had not even seen the returned tree. After an exchange of words I demanded a refund. Is there any inclination the customer might be right - I wanted to show a picture of the two matching trees I bought 3 weeks ago, one is beautiful and healthy, the other not so much, look for yourselves! The manager did not seem to want to be bothered. As I am getting my refund, he is standing inside the store saying he will give me the tree - really, after all that - no way - Mike can shove the tree up his posterior! read more

I had a 65000$ landscape job 3 years ago. Wentworth finished it in the past 2 years. The watefall pump has failed. I have contacted Richard Wentworth multiple times over the past past 3 weeks. No response. I also have a dead Weeping cherry tree that was replaced 3 times. Richard Wentworth says it was weather.. A friend who is a naturist says its dead. Called Richard Wentworth. No response. I would never recommend them. They simply dont care about the customer. read more

In 2014 I moved to a new property, and as recommended, the first thing I did was to install fruit trees. I purchased them from Wentworth in Charlotte Hall and because I was new to fruit trees and had many to install, we paid extra to have Wentworth install them. The trees didn't do well at all. By the next year they were almost all dead and were replaced under their guarantee. Being persistent and stubborn I even purchased more fruit trees, determined to get these fruit trees going. I watered, and watered, and sprayed and fertilized - I followed directions and recommendations to a "T." To my frustration, the next year most of the trees were again dead. I couldn't afford anymore Wentworth trees and installation, so as the guarantee expired I began buying more affordable trees elsewhere - Tractor Supply, Lowes, Loveville Produce auction. I planted them per the simple directions that are clearly planted on every tree (including Wentworths). To my surprise, while the Wentworth trees continued to die, the trees I planted did great in the exact same locations with the same care and treatment! Even the discounted, half dead, clearance trees I got from Lowes one fall are still doing great! Of course as I pulled out the old dead Wentworth trees to replace them, I could see why. The hole was barely dug deep and wide enough to just squeeze the root ball into the hole and covered with mulch. Two years later I am pulling out the Wentworth trees and the root balls and dirt are still the exact shape as the pots they were originally in, because your installers didn't break up the root ball, they didn't dig the hole even close to big enough, and they didn't surround the root ball with compost or topsoil - as clearly written on the installation instruction card. They just did the bare minimum to get it in the ground. In our Southern Maryland clay soil they sat in their earthen pots and died ....and I paid for the service, that because it was poorly done, caused me to be out more $$$$ in fruit trees. Their installers need to be trained or monitored to do their jobs correctly! Update: I have contacted Wentworth hoping to speak with management about our experience. Yes, I feel like they owe us either correctly planted trees or money back. At the least I want to make sure they know what's going on to improve their service. I sent them an email and a letter and have NEVER heard back from them. read more

This is a gem for Southern Maryland. A real, specialized full-service nursery. Yes, if you want cheap, standard plants, go to a big box store like Home Depot or Lowes. But if you want to know how to care for perennials or identify a plant you bought with your house, this is the place to go. On par with Benhke's in the suburbs to the north. read more

We have hired Wentworth 2x for landscape design and installation and worked directly with the owner. A small portion of the work we ordered was not completed. We were not satisfied with some of the detail work for the work they did complete, and held back a retainage on our invoice pending its resolution. Within our warranty period, we lost 10 plants. I wrote at least 3 emails explaining the situation, sent actual USPS snail mail, made phone calls, and just this past Saturday August 22nd, my husband personally visited the Charlotte Hall location and asked to speak in person with Richard Wentworth to resolve the matter amicably. He was "unavailable" so the woman in the shop took my husband's cell number and promised a return call - that never came. Despite all of our attempts, the only contact Wentworth Nursery has made with us is monthly Statements which have billed us for the work they did not complete and the amount we withheld pending their satisfactory response to our concerns with the work. Considering we spent nearly $5,000 with them in 2 years' time and worked directly with the owner of the company, I am nothing short of astounded at the passive aggressive disinterest they have shown in our satisfaction. We had hoped to have them perform seasonal cleanups in our yard, but clearly will be going elsewhere to any nursery but Wentworths in our future. I'd recommend you do the same. read more

Customer service is non-existent. Don't pay to have anything delivered. I paid to have a pallet of rocks delivered, for which I paid in excess of $300! They didn't show on the day of delivery. At approx. 3:30 p.m. I called and asked "what's up"? Their response was that their delivery guy didn't show up for work, so I would have to wait for ANOTHER WEEK before they attempted delivery again -- their reasoning: they only deliver to specified zip codes on specified days. What kind of business knows they're NOT going to make the delivery on the scheduled day, knows that you're sitting at home all day waiting for the delivery, and doesn't have the common courtesy or decency to call and let you know there wasn't going to be a delivery? CERTAINLY NOT A BUSINESS THAT WILL EVERY GET ANOTHER RED CENT FROM ME!!!! They have an on-site manager; apparently he has never even completed a basic management course! read more

Not the best place around for selection or service. Never ordered our order and didn't tell us, we had to call and find out that it was never ordered. Would have been nice to know, so we went to Longwood Nursery. Highly highly highly recommend, not only did they have lower prices but they were incredibly helpful especially when we couldn't make a quick last minute trip up there, they worked to get us same-day pictures of what they had, and next day delivery! Highly recommend Longwood Nursery, don't deal with horrible customer service at Wentworth. read more

Wish I had gone here sooner! The staff are very friendly and helpful with suggestions when you're unsure what plants would go well together in your garden. The prices of the plants are so much more reasonable than at Lowes. They have a better an more varied selection to choose from. I know where I'll be going for me plants and trees from now on. They also deliver for a small fee. read more

We utilized Wentworth nursery to design and build our backyard stone patio. During our initial estimate, their representative was able to answer all our questions and gave advise based on years of experience. After a week, the same representative delivered an official landscaping plan that accurately showed what we envisioned for our yard. They were very accurate with their timeline of two days to complete and delivered quality work. The ONLY issue I had with the entire experience was having to call multiple times to schedule the project, and received a call one day before they intended to start. As a $6,000 investment, I would have thought there would have been better communication. read more
