Sadly this is a Funeral Home that I have visited way too often. I come here about every 2-3 months for a friend moving onto better places. They do a fantastic job of treating everyone with respect. The facilities are always very clean. The staff has always been amazing. They are also especially accommodating during covid! They arrange for the family to have lunch on property. I am not sure how far they still go now that restaurants are now open again. My only issue, that isnt really their fault, is the parking! If you are a loved one visiting, try and carpool, because you might be parking a few blocks away... All in all, if you or a loved one is called, they do an amazing job making sure the process is as seamless as possible. read more

Our mom passed away on January 7, 2024. The staff at the funeral home were very compassionate and accommodating during this very difficult time. One thing that we were very disappointed in learning was not being properly advised, pertaining to the purchase of the casket we chose. We were given a PDF file with a list of caskets, and we picked a beautiful Mahogany wood casket for almost $10,000.00. We wanted something nice for our mom. We thought we were doing the right thing. We buried our mom on January 12th and due to certain circumstances, we decided to move her to another grave. We moved her on April 12th and were astonished to see the condition of the casket. Unbeknownst to us, we did not know that within three months the casket would rot and be in pieces. If we were advised that this type of casket would deteriorate so quickly, we would have either placed her casket inside of a cement/steel box or purchased a less expensive stainless casket. It was beyond upsetting to see what the casket looked like after only three months. My family is writing this review because we hope the funeral home will, in the future, give more information pertaining to the purchase of a casket. Families going through a difficult time look towards the people with knowledge to help them in making the correct decisions. read more

I recently attended a memorial service for Mildred Rodrigues at the funeral home. The staff was compassionate, attentive, and very helpful. The building was spotless, well kept and beautifully decorated. The funeral home was decorated with stunning floral arrangements. They even had a buffet style luncheon, coffee, and bottled water for the guests. read more

Our family has been using George Werst for several generations. Our Aunt's final wishes were all honored, down to the last detail. We pre-planned the funeral through Dignity Memorial and George Werst coordinated beautifully with the funeral home in Florida. Our plan was to honor our Aunt with glazed donuts, her favorite after the services. When we arrived, there were several boxes of glazed donuts and coffee awaiting in a lovely appointed room that had recently been redone. I feel the need to review George Werst because I noticed that the previous and only review was very negative and unlike my own. My family has been to so many funerals at this establishment and we keep trusting their service with each beloved relative that checks into the horizontal Hilton. The staff members are long term employees and have been here for years upon years. They know funeral procedures and keep everything organized (even if that means telling you when it's time to leave and time to arrive). Most recently, I went here for my grandmother's funeral and I can't even begin to explain how wonderful they treated our family. Yes, some of the staff on hand are rigid and a bit blunt, but they are still considerate and professional (remember...this is New York). The building inside is very traditional and old fashioned with a basement level and antiquated restrooms. Perhaps the most helpful and notable thing about this place was the processional drive to the cemetery. The drivers know the streets well and are very mindful of traffic laws. Our representative got out of the car regularly to check how many cars were in line and make sure that no one was lost. They navigated the busy and construction ridden streets to make sure my nana was brought past her home before her burial. They explained everything and were so organized. This is a wonderful place to say goodbye to your loved ones. They will also let you park out front if parking is scarce in the lot or on side streets. Compassion is everything. read more

We listened to every recommendation and contacted them to handle both services. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. They will treat you and your deceased with dignity and kindness, and they did everything in their power to honor the memory of my relatives. This place is really unbelievable. We ordered 13 death certificates at a cost of $20/ea, and they arrived with a misspelled name. We didn't notice until we got home to look at them. They didn't even proofread it. The name was spelled for them and they still got it incorrect. read more

my dad passed away april 19th 2017 we went to george werst let me tell you george werst is the worse funeral home to do business with. we gave them my dads life insurance to pay for the funeral they inturn give the paper work to american funeral financial to handle so they can get paid american funeral financial charged me over $600.00 so george werst can get paid from prudential life ins.i say if george werst uses american financial let george werst pay america financial not the grieving family its bad enough that i lost my dad i dont need to be ripped off from george werst/american financial.if you use any funeral home just ask them if they do business with american funeral financial if they say yes get out of their quick george werst has no heart or compassion for the grieving family members all they care about is getting a call/funeral.all the prayer cards were mis-spelled they had to hurry and print new cards up.will never do business with rip off george werst ever again read more
