I live in Maryland and still come here to pick up new hockey gear even though it's a 7 or so hour drive. Especially for goalie gear, this is one of the best stores as the goalie specialists are very knowledgeable about proper fitting and models, and are also fun to chat with. Although the prices for the gear are the same as all other hockey/goalie stores, they do have a very wide selection and also some used gear if you're looking to buy discounted equipment for a lot less and don't mind if it's been used a little. read more

Unbelievably great experience at Wesco. I'm a big, 6'2 beer league goalie with a size 15 shoe who always has a hard time finding gear, particularly skates. After speaking with Andrew who runs the pro shop (a smaller satellite Wesco store) at the Stamford Twin Rinks, he recommended I go see Nick at the main Wesco store in Brookfield. Having already spent an hour driving from the Bronx to Stamford, I was hesitant to drive another hour for gear - but I am glad I did. Andrew called Nick and informed him I was coming up, and when I arrived Nick was prepared and ready to get me fitted with a VERY gently used pair of Bauer skates that fit like a glove. I went in thinking I would try on some skates, find a pair and size I liked, and then shop around online, but when Nick said the price was $150, I couldn't leave without them (Mind you, the skates were last years model and used, but they were in perfect condition). I was in and out in about 30 minutes with a pair of skates that had been heat molded to my foot and sharpened on site to perfection. Can't thank Nick (and Andrew in Stamford!) enough for their dedication to providing the best gear and service around. I will not shop for goalie gear anywhere else again. This is the review for hockey equipment - more specifically goalie equipment. If I had a picture in my head of what goalie equipment heaven looked like, it would look like Wesco's basement. Wesco is by far the best place for goalie equipment in the tri-state and New England area. Great group of people working there as well. They know their stuff, and are very welcoming. They carry all of the newest equipment in the market. They will customize equipment - color, flex, types of ties, rises, glove pocket tee spec, everything. This is great when you want to size up pads, just bring in your skates and pants and try on as many pairs of pads as you want. They have a sheet of synthetic ice to get an idea of sliding around with a goal to get an idea of how it will feel to own the equipment so it's not a complete surprise your first time on the ice with them. If you live in driving distance and need hockey equipment, this is the place to go. It's less than 5 minutes away off of I-84. About a 1 to 1.5 hr drive from NYC. read more

It's definitely one of the finest places in Connecticut for ice hockey equipment. I'm 30 now, I've been coming to Wesco on and off since I was 16. And man has the place evolved. The whole basement is the goalie stockyard, with perhaps hundreds of each particular goalie necessity. The prices are excellent too, and they actually are willing to negotiate on price now and then. Doug, the manager, KNOWS I've been coming here for half my life. He gave me 10% off my current chest-and-arm (which is a hell of a discount in hockey equipment terms), and a GREAT price on a pair of gently used goalie skates. Staff are very helpful. If you're a new player, they'll suit you up good, and do it in your price range. Used equipment is always a good bet here too. read more

I'm an older beer league goalie and I've been waiting to buy new pads for a couple of years now. After asking around everywhere and doing my research, I checked these guys out. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the top place in the greater NY area for buying goalie equipment. The selection is amazing but I was really impressed with the fact that they are incredibly experienced. Nick helped me out the three times I went in and answered all of my questions. In the end, I picked up a set of CCM Extreme Flex Pros and a pair of Bauer Reactor 6000 skates. I used them a few times and I've been blown away at how much the gear has improved since I last bought pads and skates about 7 years ago. They also have a great selection of used pads and I understand that if you buy your pads there, they will buy them back for a % when you get new pads. I definitely intend to go back. read more

This place is for pros and pros only. As background, I haven't been ice skating in forever and wanted to see if I could still do it. A pair of cheap, used ice skates came up online, and I jumped at the chance. I went to Wesco to get new laces and got a lecture from the owner's wife(?) about how horrible they are and have no support and she could sell me better skates for $100. This isn't for competition, this is for fun on a frozen lake in Maine and to see if I still had it. If this becomes a sport I enjoy, I'll go elsewhere for better skates. Two stars because after saying she didn't have the exact laces because they were discontinued, somehow she found some that will do. They're fine, thanks. read more

If are a ice hockey goalie this store is a must. I visited this store for the first time with my son this past Sunday after being referred to the store by my son's goalie coach. The hour drive to get there was without a doubt worth the time. Infact, we met other customer there who were from even as far as New Jersey and New York. My son is a left handed goalie "full right", and we had found it impossible to find gloves for him. We found they had many different choices from multiple manufacturers and a large assortment of colors. Along with the overwhelming selection they had very competent staff who fitted my son with equipment. I have to mention that I myself was a goalie having gone to school on a full scholarship for hockey so when I say the staff is competent this means they really know their stuff. They are up to date with all the latest and greatest gear. They won't try to upsell you. They don't try to get you to buy more expensive gear nor do they try to get you to buy equipment that you don't need. They really care about our goalies and want them to be safe while being able to move freely. I also must tell you that their prices are great. They either meet or beat online prices. I checked the prices of all the equipment we bought and they were lower on all the pieces except one which was the same price as online. All the gear is genuine and not made in china knockoffs nor do they sell seconds, gear with defects. They do have high quality used gear there too if that is what you're looking to buy. So, with all that said, do yourself a favor. Don't waste your time running around looking for gear, just plan a trip to Wesco and ask for Nick the goalie or Doug the owner. Have fun shopping. I was not expecting much but to my surprise, Wesco Sports had a great selection of skates, sticks, and all other types of gear. It's run by knowledgeable guys who really know the sport. The definition of a great store. Really more of a Mecca. In addition to all of the zealots they serve, Doug and Nick did a great job educating me as my son got a late start as a goalie. They gave me advice that served me better than it served them. Instead of taking the $1,500 it would have cost to set up my son, they explained which safety stuff I should buy new, which made more sense to buy pre-owned, and which to simply try to acquire as hand-me-downs at my local rink. My son shows everyone the video he took at this one-of-a-kind store, and was in awe during each of our visits. Don't leave without seeing the goalie room downstairs. Unbelievable. I LOVE DOUG and his crew of athletes that know first hand of your troubles and always seem to come up with solutions. Tom in the LAX dept (Happy Spring Hockey Fans) is AWESOME and does a great job restringing sticks. Don't go if you're looking for figure skates! The woman who handles, Barbara, went AWOL on us after we spent five hours there one Saturday waiting to get fitted, and then finally getting fitted. She said it would take two weeks for the skates and blades to come in. It's been seven weeks and I still haven't heard from her, after emailing her twice AND calling the store. My daughter had to miss skating school this week because of this--and I can't get that $250 back. REALLY disappointed. read more

Wow they are fantastic! The crew here took the time to walk my daughter and I (complete newbies) through all things ice hockey. We were given expert care and assistance from the second we walked through the door. For each piece of this puzzle we were helped by a different team member who seemed to specialize in the piece of equipment we were checking off the list. We were given a bag of gear through the youth hockey program and even though it wasn't their stuff, they went out of their way to check all of it for fit and function. Rather than just tell me it was all no good because it came from another store, they checked each item and let me know if it fit her right or needed to replaced with the correct size. They patiently explained to me what everything was and how it all went together. We never felt rushed or upsold on things we didn't need. They offered items in different price ranges and even had used equipment if it made sense. This was my first time here and I was completely blown away by the customer service. I been to many hockey equipment stores but they will sell you anything that you want. Wesco will only sell you something if it makes sence. I wanted to buy my son this past weekend the Reebok 20k hockey skates, Doug the owner said why would you spend $750.00 when you 12 year old son is going to grow out of them at some point this year. He told us that the 18k is basically the same skate and you will save a couple hundred dollars. That is a place that cares about you and you athlete and not their pockets like so many other stores.
