In September, our family entrusted Chapel Memorial Funeral Home (CMFH) with the arrangements for my…read moremother-in-law's final services. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing, marked by a lack of professionalism, empathy, and organization. At a time when families are most vulnerable, CMFH failed to provide the compassion and integrity one should expect from a funeral home. Our family initially met with a gentleman who was courteous but not authorized to make final decisions. We were told we needed to meet with Valerie, the funeral director, to finalize arrangements and ensure we could stay within our very limited budget. When the meeting day arrived, Valerie showed up 20 minutes late and was completely unprepared. From the start, her demeanor lacked empathy and professionalism. During our discussion, she made an inappropriate remark about her colleague, stating, "He's a man and doesn't know what needs to be done" when referring to the preparation (makeup) for our loved one. This comment was not only unprofessional but highly insensitive, especially to a grieving family just days before the funeral. Regarding pricing and services, we were charged for the use of a 32" ONN television to display a memorial video. The fee was explained as covering both the equipment and dedicated technical support. However, the person assigned as "technical support" -- who was also managing the funeral service -- had no technical expertise. She did not know how to connect a laptop with a cable, and I had to personally request one twice. The only method she attempted was using a USB stick, which the monitor couldn't read. This made the charge unjustifiable and added unnecessary stress during an already emotional event. After finalizing our selections, Valerie provided a written quote. We reviewed all the details together, signed the paperwork, and left to obtain payment. While en route to the bank, I received a call from her stating that she had made a "calculation error" and was increasing the total by $1,100. The tone was dismissive and unapologetic -- no acknowledgment of the inconvenience or her mistake. When we returned to deliver payment and the clothing for preparation, Valerie avoided contact altogether. Her office manager -- the Office Manager, who also handled "technical support" -- processed everything. On the day of the funeral, Valerie remained out of sight, never once checking in with the family. At the gravesite, without prior coordination, the attendants instructed the pallbearers to face the mourners and speak -- something the family had never requested or approved. Following the service, a blanket with our loved one's image was presented to the family. While it appeared to be a thoughtful gesture, we know it was not without a cost and even an offer to purchase additional copies. This left a terrible impression, as if the family's grief had been turned into a sales opportunity, despite our clearly stated budget limitations. In summary, the facilities and service quality do not justify the cost. Valerie did do a commendable job with the physical preparation of my mother-in-law -- she was presented beautifully and as we had hoped. Unfortunately, that was the only positive aspect of our experience. Chapel Memorial Funeral Home's lack of empathy, accountability, and professionalism made an already painful time even more difficult. I would not recommend this funeral home to any family seeking respectful, compassionate, and honest service during their time of loss.

Very theatrical with lanterns, creepy ghosts crawling up your back when you least expect it. I screamed my heart out more than once, I ended up apologizing to strangers as I grabbed onto with fear. Overall it was fun! The tickets are priced $9 for kids and $13 for adults.

I visited the family vault housing my mother and many other members of my family a week ago, and…read morewas very surprised and disappointed with the condition of the grave markers in the cemetery. At least four of the nearby headstones were toppled over, and many more showed signs of long neglect. Our family vault had been broken into, (it has been broken into in the past - nothing there to find, folks!) and used for storage of clothing and returnable bottles. The cemetery doesn't seem to have an assigned caretaker or Sexton. This is an historic burying place for some well-known 19th century men and women. Who's in charge here?

It looked very historic and kind of small. I did an online search and the oldest grave belongs to Joseph Bird who was born in 1678 and died in 1729. There were all types of gravestones; there were many tall obelisks to thin decrepit ones. Some were family plots because it was essentially fenced in by a boundary marker. If you're into history and cemeteries, this place is worth a quick visit, if you're in the area.

Old names in an…read moreold town The East Avon Cemetery is located right behind the old Avon Congregational Church in the center of town. Not a really large graveyard but it does have some interesting stones and memorials. There are some obelisks that were so popular in the mid 1800s and some other rather large and massive memorials but nothing really on a grand or opulent scale. Many of the gravestones date back to the early and mid 19 century and have unique and very cool designs on them. Considering the age and weather conditions many of the stones are in surprisingly good shape. If you look closely it is possible to read many of the old names and little epitaphs and a lot of the names will be familiar to anyone knowledgeable about the town's history. A cool little graveyard that takes you back in Avon's past.

It is clean, well kept and very tidy. Poquonock's second meeting house was originally built on this site in 1798, just two years before Elm Grove Cemetery opened in 1800. That building was torn down in 1872. The Universalist Society, which had been using the meeting house for their services, joined the Second School Society, the administrators of Elm Grove Cemetery, and the Spiritual Harmonial Society in building a mortuary chapel. Tis the season to be spooky…read more In 1638, this historic cemetery, the second oldest in Connecticut, was established. Many of the grave markers from the 17th century did not age well with time; those deteriorated because it was made of wood and weaker stones. The tombstones that outlasted time were from wealthy families that had the funds to purchase, have it engraved, and shipped to Wethersfield. There weren't many grave carvers in town at that time. There are only 3 tombstones that survived; all three were from the 17th century. Most of the tombstones were made of brownstones and grey granite schist. There were quite a few that I could not see any markings on it. Most of the tombstones were placed in an unorganized way; back then they chose whichever spots were available. It was nice and peaceful walking through. It fascinates me that these people were alive 386 years ago. There were definitely newer tombstones as well. I sense that this place gets really creepy at night....

My 6 year old child is buried in this cemetery. I consider comments inappropriate and thoughtless. He died Nov. 19th, 1980. Think about it if you have children or not. Look around and you see his gravestone. It has a spaceship modeled after Star Wars. Your comments give me the creeps by the way.

Ponds and peace…read more Waterhole Cemetery is a relatively small graveyard that has a nice variety of gravestones. Nothing really large but there were several medium sized obelisks and a couple of other fairly elaborate memorials. The cemetery is surrounded by a cool black spiked fence and a stone wall. It was well maintained although there were some spots that looked they were intentional left rough and wild. The cemetery was started in 1793 but most of the graves I saw were from the mid 1800s, the time that obelisks were in fashion for dead folks. Many of the soft brownstone memorials were cracked or fading but I did see some cool death heads and unique and personal engravings A cool and interesting little cemetery that probably got it's name from the little pond only a short distance from it. Although the little graveyard is no longer accepting new customers it remains a fascinating part of East Hampton's history.

They've done high quality stone woke for walkways and walls for us, in addition to yard, shrub, and other tasks, such as opening and closing our gardens. The jobs are done right and we've always found the cost fair. Wonderful company to work with!

Final update: After being ignored for over a month and a half, legal action was taken, and…read moresurprise! The day after that occurred, they called! "Maybe there was some settling." "Maybe it was the fill." We're "overwhelmed with the Tolland foundation crisis." Those were some of my favorite quotes (more like excuses) from our conversation. If you don't have time to properly do residential jobs, don't take them; stick to your big commercial jobs! They agreed to come back, relevel the backyard (which was several inches off), slit seed (which they didn't do, they used a spreader), lime and fertilize (hopefully). I did actually get grass to start growing due to hiring another company (All Landscaping, 860-798-6301, Allen did an amazing job for a very reasonable price), and when they came to "fix" the issues, they proceeded to drive a Bobcat on the lawn (unnecessary) and put dirt down on the grass that had grown in, even after being told before the work started what areas needed to be done. It took legal action to get the job (somewhat) fixed, and I will be fixing myself in the spring. Do not hire this company.
