After my experience yesterday at a contemporary art gallery, I decided to venture out and expand my art gallery network. This curiosity led me to West Chelsea Cellars Contemporary gallery on 6 th. Street. They also have a presence in New York's Chelsea district. The gallery focuses on contemporary art pieces, highlighting works of artists such as Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst. They also focus on emerging and mid-career artists. I was immediately greeted at the entry by a gallery staff member. He then told to peruse the art works at my leisure. The building is spacious with a great deal of room between the exhibits. The floor to ceiling windows facing 6th street generates a great deal of natural light. The art works are in a large range of price points, provided upon request. read more

I have been to this location twice and had a good experience everytime. The artists showcased are always amazing! The set up always sync up with the art. Eventbrite is a great way to check out their public exhibitions. I highly recommend if you want a calm activity and enjoy seeing art. read more

What I really like about WCC is that they really do make world famous and up and coming world famous to be art and artists accessible to every interested person. It's so thrilling to be surrounded by Warhols, Dalí, and this weekend was Dan Life. I could feel myself starting to obsess over his Balençiaga piece: Don't Mind if I Do, 2. I really enjoyed the artist talk, and even got to meet Dan Life and tell him he's a hero in the art world for using art and architectural magazine covers in his work, saving them to go down in history bc of his pop artist fame, and more fame to be. I looooved that he also noted that Austin does not even have one magazine store? So weird that we don't, right? My history with West Chelsea Contemporary was that even though I was obsessed, I couldn't buy the last thing I picked out, an unsigned Warhol print called Warhol's Shadow, because someone bought it out from under me while I was getting my deposit together!! But maybe I'll actually purchase Don't Mind If I Do, #2, so fitting read more

We visited the West Chelsea Contemporary during their First Tuesday event. Wow- what a cool space! We easily spent 30 minutes looking at all of the art throughout the bright, clean space. We recognized a few artists and discovered some new ones. Every employee we encountered was incredibly nice and knowledgeable about the work. They were happy to describe the art and artists. read more

I'm impressed with Austin and this art gallery! The recent show - Icons and Vandals, is well curated, well displayed and represents some excellent artists from around the world. The staff is wonderful and ready to answer any questions. The collection keeps rotating a bit because pieces were selling fast. The show is for another few weeks so certainly make time to go check it out. read more

The West Chelsea Contemporary is the best gallery in Austin for contemporary art and my favorite go-to. They have special events with artist talks and rotate shows regularly. Their exhibits feature world-class artists like Hunt Slonem, King Saladeen, Salvador Dali, famous graffiti artists and emerging artists. The space is big and the art shows well. They also sell some art books and unusual children's books. Staff is friendly and helpful and they do art consultations. There's also a framing shop. It's a fun way to spend an hour or so and there's usually parking available. If you're an art collector, check them out and get on their VIP list for private invitations to special events. read more

Went here to see "Icons" and it was a nice exhibit. It was smaller than I expected inside but their gift shop had a lot of really neat stuff and they had some nice pieces inside. Not sure if they always have a bar but they had wine and seltzers when I was there. The staff was all really nice and it's a nice open space inside. It's a self-guided tour and doesn't take more than maybe 45 minutes. read more

Attended the This is Love Pop Up at WCC. It was my first time visiting and I enjoyed the diverse art pieces, clean space, complimentary wine and red roses. The exhibit featured local Austin artists directly alongside big name creators which I thought was pretty neat. WCC has convenient access with a parking lot in the back. The moment we walked into the WCC we were welcomed with open arms. Megen walked us through the gallery giving us background on the pieces. We ended up captivated by a Andy Warhol Debbie Harry portrait. She coordinated the drop off at our house... which included an installation by Josie and Jacob. Not only did the team install our new piece, they also helped us rearrange other pieces around our house. So professional. We can't wait to work with Megen and WCC again on a commissioned piece. read more

Well, I've officially recommended visiting this gallery to everyone that lives in my building so here's to the world of yelp too! This gallery is incredible. I came for the Concrete to Canvas exhibition and it absolutely knocked my socks off. My all time favorite street artist is JR and when I heard one if his pieces was displayed here, I came the next day. I really only came to see him but was memorized by the incredible work of the 38 other artists on display. These are truly the up and coming artists of our generation and how lucky are we to have them displayed in downtown Austin. The exhibition is in a large room with dividers that allow for you to slowly snake through. Social distancing was pretty easy as only a small handful of pieces (or a single artist's work) was available on each divider. I ended up enjoying the exhibition so much that I purchased their 'Concrete to Canvas' book there so that I wouldn't forget a single artist's name. If you are free for an afternoon, I recommend spending at least a half hour of your time here. It won't take too long to see the entire exhibit and it truly is incredible. read more

As someone who loves art but isn't an art expert or collector, I absolutely love this place and always enjoy visiting. The staff are very welcoming and friendly -- a nice change from your stereotypical art museum or gallery -- and they always have an amazing selection of artwork. Their exhibits seem to change frequently and they are able to fit a lot of art into their space. Highly recommend visiting this gallery if you're an art fan! read more

Wow! What a fantastic experience. Great exhibitions, very talented artists and all laid out so well. Went in for Banksy and Keith Haring but was very impressed by some of the less well known and local artists. I really appreciated that Derrick approached us and offered up interesting facts and explanation on the art, and treated us as if we were in the gallery to purchase, even though we were wearing tennis shoes and didn't look like the typical clientele. He was very helpful and offered to show us a few new pieces they hadn't put out yet. In a few years when I can afford a piece I'll be back! read more

This gallery is warm and inviting, both because of the gorgeous exhibits they consistently showcase and because of their lovely staff. I've made several visits and always feel very welcomed. This past visit, I was especially helped by Allee, the Assistant Director. She was so kind and wonderful to speak with, showing me several items they had of my favorite artist and even taking me to their backspace to show me some pieces not on display in the gallery. I really love that West Chelsea highlights local artists alongside more well-known artists. West Chelsea Contemporary is such a great venue and hosts such a great collection that it caught my attention from just walking around the streets of Austin. The current installation #ConcreteToCanvas caught my eye immediately from the window display. Classics such as Shepard Fairey and work inspired by Banksy. Looking forward to further installments and visiting this gallery as new art comes into this gallery. Also, the gift shop has amazing gifts that anyone into art would love. My friend and I were beyond excited to tour the Provocateur's exhibition, but what we experienced was next level WOW! Beyond the scope of the talent radiating throughout the gallery- Hunt Slonem, Salvador Dali', Andy Warhol, The Connor Brothers, Cori Teague (WOW, she'll be famous soon!)- the knowledge, passion, and storytelling abilities of the staff truly impressed us and made the visit that much more worthwhile. Of mention, Derek Boone, spent time with us touring the gallery alongside us, telling us stories about the pieces as well as artist. He went above and beyond showing us pieces in the back area that weren't even on display! That level of service is unheard today. I look forward to visiting the gallery again for their next exhibit and purchasing my art from Derek. Without doubt, if there's a piece you want/need, he'll ensure you get it....and you'll leave feeling quite amazing about the purchase to boot! read more

WCC downtown has always been such a fun place for me to stop into whether to shop or to take a gander. Recently I went to their newest exhibit, Provocateurs, that is on display for the next couple of months- at both locations. It was a fantastic night with fantastic people but most importantly, fantastic A R T! They have a great collection right now and I've never had a bad visit. The people are always so kind, knowledgeable, and patient. I fell in love with a 'newer' artist, forgive me if she's more well known in Austin, but she happens to work at WCC as well. Cori Teague had a few pieces there but particularly a black painting with a metallic-ish nude woman really spoke to us. (If someone wants to buy me that, I'd love you forever! Haha.) We weren't able to connect with her much that night but did at the Domain. She is just as kind and thoughtful as the rest of the WCC staff. It's always such a lovely time when I come here and I can't wait for my next visit. read more

Our instructor was friendly and encouraged us to tap into originality without overthinking it instead of looking up patterns or inspo on our phone. I really liked that. And she offered us all coffee, freshly made. You can basically come in to do all the arts and craft your heart desires, on a donation basis. Affordable and unique way to release your artistic side without investing too much in all the supplies and then an abandoning a hobby. I'd come back with a friend and check out a different class.

They had construction paper, ribbons, highlighters, stamps, hot glue guns, and anything you might find at Michael's. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and showed us how she made her lanterns. She walked us step-by-step through the process. Now, I'm not a crafty person, but I was inspired enough by the ambiance and overflow of art supplies to get some creative juices flowing. At the end, I was able to create my own lanterns with some creative twists. I had a fun time and will recommend my crafty friends to check this place out!
