The school and staff take pride in helping children become emotionally intelligent as well as independent life long lovers of learning. In addition, the small school size, frequent communication, and community-oriented philosophy makes it feel like a family. Having seen how articulate, internally-driven, and kind the 6th graders are, I feel confident that we've made the right choice for our son's education. The teachers and supervisor are completely unprofessional. Here are the reasons: - My son came injured 4 days out of 5 day (in a week). One day they called my telling me that my son fell down and hit a chair with the forehead. I asked to to see the video. The supervisor told me that it is impossible to show me the video. She does not know that Division of Child Care Services of New York regulates that video surveillance equipment are for the purpose of allowing parents to view their children in the day care. Anyways, parents are in their right to see what happen with their children at the day care. However, the blonde supervisor thinks that parents have to pay the tuition and forget about WATCH their own children. Very UNPROFESSIONAL. - They told me every day that my son ate all the food every day. A couple of days I took my son from the day care without previous notice at 4 pm. Then, they gave me back the whole lunch back. They did not have time to throw away the lunch. However, the daily report on the app (Tadpoles parent) was written - all the food from home-. When next day I asked about the food the supervisor turned and walk away. , she replied that my son ate all the food that the teacher offered to him. That is impossible because they did not open the food container. That is why, my son got home very very hungry every day. - In a very cold day of December, the teachers gave a ride to the babies in Central Park without gloves. I believe they were very busy to put the gloves on to the babies. - They broke the zip of a brand new jacket of my son and they did not say anything to me. - My wife and I always speak over the phone using head phones. However, my son take any small toy and play to speak over the phone. He did not learn that from us. That means, my son has been seeing teacher speak over their mobile phone over and over and over. That could be the reason that babies get injured because they are not well supervised. - On the Tadpoles parent app, Sunshine's 5th ave staff sent us a TEACHER APPRECIATION PDF. On that file, every staff asked for a gift, like Amazon or Visa gift cards, CASH, even they said what things they do not want to get as a gift. Support staff were the only sensible people. They wrote "ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS APPRECIATED". - Once I paid the week tuition with my credit card. A couple of weeks later, I did not take my son to the day care. Then I called them to let them know that I will go to pay the tuition in the afternoon but my surprise was when a lady replied me, "it is not necessary you come to pay, I have your credit card information. I can charge the weekly tuition fee". Why did they keep my credit card information? - Once I met my son teacher. She told me that my son does not listen to her because when she tells him - sit down on that chair, my son does not make it-. My son is 1 year old, he does not understand the word's meaning! Very UNPROFESSIONAL. If you appreciate your children, look for a different day care.

Their theatre programming in middle/high school is college/graduate school level. My daughter went to this school after many other more "prestigious" independent schools in the city let us down-Dwight was superior! Why? Because Dwight is completely devoted to seeing the "spark" and potential of every student. She is now a straight A student at an Ivy-I only mention this for the status obsessed parents perhaps reading this review-and about to deride the school. Also, she was incredibly well-prepared to succeed in college due to the IB curriculum. The faculty at the school are devoted and brilliant and really care about the students. My son is now enrolled-what is extraordinary about Dwight is the school also acknowledges and has a program devoted to helping different learners-both my kids are dyslexic. Most other private schools have "a learning specialist" often well-intentioned, but not properly trained and most importantly without proper resources from the administration to actually help students. Dwight knows that many learning disabled students are very smart, but need some extra support. Many other private schools prefer to "counsel these kids out" or say the students aren't academically strong enough to handle the curriculum. Both kids actually look forward to going to school in the morning. They feel challenged, motivated, and respected. The teachers at Smith have an uncanny ability to meet kids at their individual levels and needs. They listen to the kids, thus allowing them to have a voice and feel control over some aspects of their education. He went from D's and F's in public school to straight A's in the Smith School. From the caring teachers, the warm environment, the amazing principal, and the overall feeling that we're now part of a family. I was concerned that private Jewish school in Manhattan will be full of spoiled kids, coming from rich families, but i was surprised how humble the kids and their families are. The school and even more the Parent Association, are trying to bring everyone closer, helping new families feel comfortable and make sure no one is left behind. Last important thing to note is about values. The teachers and the school overall are teaching the kids about values, caring, loving, be humble, appreciate, help others and appreciate what you have. If I knew half of what i know today about the school i wouldn't hesitate for a second.

Our child frequently got different instructors administering the lessons. After each lesson, I would be given a quick recap of what occurred. Later a more descriptive summary report would arrive via email. This was useful in helping me to concentrate in certain areas of weakness at home. Our Account Specialist Taylor was very responsive, he answered emails promptly and was very accommodating with our scheduling issues. The only negative experience we had at Bright Kids was with the Round 2 Hunter playdate. It was overpriced, with 3 sentences of vapid feedback.

The director is basically absent, and therefore there is no administrative backbone for the school. If you have questions or issues, you have to push very hard to get answers. Communication from the school (including notification of closure) was erratic and last minute, which was extremely challenging for working parents. It also became clear that it was a very difficult place for the teachers to work, resulting in our child's beloved teacher leaving midyear. Our kid was moved to a different class, with a teacher who seemed both overwhelmed, ill-prepared, and was assigning age-inappropriate work. The last few months of our final year there were barely tolerable. The school has also had some instances of safety protocol issues, like when a 2-year-old somehow left the school grounds on their own and was found on the sidewalk by their mother. The school was mostly closed down by the DoH for this infraction for over 4 weeks. This was not handled in a conscientious or thoughtful way by the administration, but instead was handled defensively. We tried very hard to work with the school to strengthen communication and parent-school relationships, but were met with defensiveness, evasiveness, and eventually hostility. I would not recommend this school to any family, unfortunately.
