Exceptional Care, Extraordinary Skill - Dr. Daniel Refai and the Emory Team…read more On June 30, 2025, Dr. Daniel Refai performed ACDF surgery on my cervical spine, fusing levels C2 through C6 and placing a cage to address significant spinal stenosis. The precision of his work is truly remarkable. My post-operative X-rays clearly demonstrate the meticulous care and technical excellence he brings to his craft--an image truly worth a thousand words. I genuinely believe this type of surgery is both a science and an art, and Dr. Refai is a master of both. Because I am a small person, he thoughtfully designed and fitted a cage specifically for my smaller anatomy. That level of individualized surgical planning speaks volumes about his expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for each patient. Equally impressive is Dr. Refai's outstanding bedside manner. He is kind, patient, reassuring, and truly listens. At every stage before and after surgery, he took time to explain, answer questions, and ensure I felt informed and confident. His compassion and calm presence made an enormous difference in my experience. Just as remarkable was the entire Emory care team. The nurses and staff were consistently kind, patient, attentive, and professional. I always felt supported and cared for, and their warmth and responsiveness made a challenging medical journey far more comfortable. It is clear that excellence is a standard throughout this entire team. Most importantly, the chronic pain I lived with for years is now gone. That outcome alone has been life-changing. I am continuing with physical therapy to regain full strength and mobility, and I am making wonderful progress thanks to the quality of the surgery. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Daniel Refai and the Emory medical team to anyone facing cervical spine surgery. Their expertise, compassion, and professionalism are truly exceptional. I am profoundly grateful for the care I received and for the quality of life I have regained.

So she was basically bothered tht I even asked and disturbed her instagram viewing. Urgent care never seems to be urgent. Snotty attitudes and unprofessional. From the time I walked in this location, I started feeling like this was going to not be my idea of competent medical care. Upon entering, the intake person asked me first about paying and went into giving me the spill on how the sliding fees are determined. I was interested in that, but you'd think the intake person would be smiling and asking you how you are, but hey since you are a walk-in at a Medical Center, maybe they think they already know how you are. So after telling me that I needed my last four paycheck stubs to have my fee determined, I headed back home to grab those and hope for a more pleasant greeting when I returned. Well, I got home, and since my employer no longer provides us our paycheck stubs, we are required to print them off the company's intranet, I had only printed out one from this month and one from about two pay periods ago. I returned with the two I had, and was greeted by yet another intake person who didn't smile or question my well-being either. She advised me that since I only had two check stubs and they weren't back to back pay periods that she could only approve me for 30 days worth of medical care for $30. I still don't get it. I mean, who cares about the next 30 days, when Im tryin to see the doctor today. That was just to bee seen by the doctor and did not include blood, or lab work. I was then sent to the waiting room where they had a show on where all of the speakers were bashing the President. Now, call me crazy, but that just what I DON'T want to watch when Im sick, a tv show with lots of negative energy associated with it. Says what you want about OBAMA, but he is the president of this great country and I think the most unpatriotic thing you can do is attack him. You may not agree with him......well I wont get political.....but again, please do away with tv shows that promote negative energy in medical center waiting rooms. So after about 20 mins a triage person comes out and gets my vitals, after seeing my blood pressure she sent me back to the waiting room while she consulted the doctor. Five minutes later she calls me back out to say, that they think I'm having a heart attack, and that I can either have someone come and take me to the emergency room or she can call an EMS to take me. I replied to her that I didn't have the time or insurance that an emergency room visit would take and she replied well if "you drop dead, insurance or money wont be much of a concern to you". Ha. Maybe she was right, but you'd think medical personnel would have a much better way to express it. Please LORD bless me with an insurance card, so I don't have to go back.

I waited until I wrote this review because I wanted to see if anything would change after my very first visit. First visit 02/19/2019: I visited the Adult Medicine clinic on my birthday last week. The receptionist who works at the front desk is VERY condescending and rude! It was raining that day and of course, I had my umbrella. After handing me the paperwork for me to fill out, some water dripped from my umbrella onto the document. I never filled out the paper, so I returned to the front desk and asked if I could exchange it for another one. The receptionist to me no, and further stated the water will dry and I can just write around it. Then he quickly added it's because they don't have many copies of the forms. I knew that was BS from the start, but I brushed it aside because I didn't want to make a scene. I shook the document to make it dry faster before filling it out. During that time another patient approached the front desk. Once I was finished filling out the paper, I stood from my seat, awaited a short distance behind her to give her privacy. Another patient came after me and stood near the wall to the side of the receptionist's desk. After the receptionist was finished with the first patient, I assumed I would be next. He completely skipped over me to tend to the patient that came after me despite knowing I was there first! I immediately became irate and marched to the desk to hand the receptionist my paperwork. He took it without looking at me and I turned around and sat in my seat again. I was called to the back and was told to wait in a room and a doctor will be with me shortly. A few minutes pass by and I hear a knock at the door. I assume it's the doctor so I told the person to come in. Lo and behold! It's the receptionist at the front desk who enters my room and tells me I need to pay $20 at the desk. I instantly became alarmed because my first thought was 'What if I was undressed?' Again, I thought the person knocking at the door was the DOCTOR. But no! It was the RECEPTIONIST! He made me feel even MORE uncomfortable during my first visit to the Adult Medicine clinic. I left the room and paid the co-payment and returned back to the room. After I saw the nurse practitioner I was told to visit the Lab and another person named Mr. Larry. After leaving the Lab I visited Mr. Larry and after receiving my referral, I explained to him what transpired at the Adult Medicine clinic. He apologized for my uncomfortable visit and I spoke with two people afterward, one of those people was the Adult Medicine supervisor. The supervisor made me feel even more at unease. While I explained everything that happened in Adult Medicine, he began grinning like my experience was funny. The supervisor did apologize and told me he hopes that my initial visit wouldn't deter me from returning to the FHC. He told me he would also speak with the receptionist about how I was feeling. I told him I'm scheduled for a follow-up visit the following week. He grinned again and I felt my follow-up visit would be more of the same. And I was right.

I filled out the paperwork indicating that i was bitten by a brown recluse spider, sat in the waiting room for an hour, then someone called me up. They said I would have to make an appointment for Monday if I wanted to see a doctor. This was around 2.p.m, 2 or 3 other people in the waiting room. Everything I have read about brown recluse bites indicates that they are extremely dangerous and warrant treatment. I was refused a doctor in a quiet clinic, with a potentially life threatening bite on my neck. I am filing a complaint with the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
