With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!

I was very disappointed when I went to the Nike store yesterday. I did not find the staff to be…read morefriendly or helpful. I tried to make a purchase using a debit card. I typically run my debit card as credit but was unable to. The person who checked me out offered me no assistance when I asked for help to run my card as credit. I happened to recently get this card, and I could not remember my PIN number (yes this part is my fault). However, the person who helped checked me out should have offered to help me figure out how to run my card as credit instead of just staring at me with an attitude. I ended up telling that person that I could not pay for my items and left because I was so frustrated. I was very disappointed and do not plan on going back to this store anytime soon.

More important than quantity is the prices for a quality item. I ended up getting 3 summer dresses for less than $60. This makes my heart sing! Mom found 2 dresses as well so a long day turned into a short trip and we had plenty of time for a day drink!

Prices start at $9 and change by the day until the next stocking. Never taken home anything I've been disappointed in. Staff is fantastic! Make sure you visit The Vault and ask about their loyalty program! Check out their Facebook page. The one con with this place is a suspicion I have... I live close by and stop in often. I suspect at the end of the night, before prices are lowered the next day, that items are picked from the bins that they don't want to sell at a lower price and then moved back to the bins the next week. Can I prove this? No. It might just be my imagination. However opened items are easily recognizable when they've been retaped. I swear I've seen the exact same opened item a couple weeks in a row on stocking day. And it wasn't there on the $3 or $1 day inbetween. I get it. They're in business to make a profit. But if this is happening it doesn't seem to go along with the whole concept of the business. Still giving it five stars, but wanted to note this.
