The layout is modern, clean, and inviting with plenty of natural light, walkways by water features, and a comfortable mix of anchor stores and specialty shops. Parking was plentiful (though busy on peak days) and signage made getting in and out manageable. The mall features over 110 popular retailers including Apple, Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, Sephora, lululemon, and more. We popped into Apple to check out the latest devices, browsed through Anthropologie for a few gift ideas, and also stopped by H&M for casual wear. The variety here means there's something for everyone in the family. The food options were solid too. The food court has familiar favorites; for a more upscale break, restaurants with patios overlooking the lake offer a more relaxing atmosphere. The staff everywhere we encountered them was courteous and helpful, especially in stores where we asked questions. The mall is well maintained, restrooms are clean, and common areas feel well cared for. We appreciated the amenities like stroller or wheelchair rental, device charging stations (outside Apple), and multiple restroom throughout. One thing to be mindful of: some mallgoers report that kiosk vendors by walkways can be overly enthusiastic--if you're not in the mood to be approached, it helps to keep moving. Overall, Jordan Creek Town Center offers a top-tier mall experience in the Des Moines area. Great mix of stores, nice ambiance, and strong amenities make it worth the visit.

With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!

I was very disappointed when I went to the Nike store yesterday. I did not find the staff to be…read morefriendly or helpful. I tried to make a purchase using a debit card. I typically run my debit card as credit but was unable to. The person who checked me out offered me no assistance when I asked for help to run my card as credit. I happened to recently get this card, and I could not remember my PIN number (yes this part is my fault). However, the person who helped checked me out should have offered to help me figure out how to run my card as credit instead of just staring at me with an attitude. I ended up telling that person that I could not pay for my items and left because I was so frustrated. I was very disappointed and do not plan on going back to this store anytime soon.

Prices start at $9 and change by the day until the next stocking. Never taken home anything I've been disappointed in. Staff is fantastic! Make sure you visit The Vault and ask about their loyalty program! Check out their Facebook page. The one con with this place is a suspicion I have... I live close by and stop in often. I suspect at the end of the night, before prices are lowered the next day, that items are picked from the bins that they don't want to sell at a lower price and then moved back to the bins the next week. Can I prove this? No. It might just be my imagination. However opened items are easily recognizable when they've been retaped. I swear I've seen the exact same opened item a couple weeks in a row on stocking day. And it wasn't there on the $3 or $1 day inbetween. I get it. They're in business to make a profit. But if this is happening it doesn't seem to go along with the whole concept of the business. Still giving it five stars, but wanted to note this.

Use caution when ordering from Aldo's website (per myself and a store employee)…read more I ordered a pair of boots online and didn't like them in person. No problem, we have an Aldo store here in DSM, and I packed the boots up and took them to the store for return. I had my receipt, so I thought, and the return should have been easy. Come to find out, I did not have the receipt...I had the packing slip, and the receipt itself was long gone in the garbage...because it was hidden under the shipping label on the outside of the packaging. Because I did not have the receipt, the store couldn't refund my money. They couldn't give me store credit. They could only do an immediate exchange for something else. Bah. That is just dumb. And that is also why the store employee told me to use caution when ordering from the website. (He recommend to come into the store to place orders...that way you get a printed receipt. Seems like a lot of work to me, but he was trying to be helpful.) I did find a replacement pair of boots, and they even let me use a coupon. I feel like I'm not putting into words the service that I received while I was here. Let me try again: Although I was not pleased that my only option was to do an immediate exchange, the staff was incredibly helpful. Alex especially. He clearly explained the policies to me and empathized that they were less than ideal. He carefully processed my exchange and was very pleasant. I emailed Aldo corporate about his service--that's how good it was.
