I think it is extremely well run and organized. I never have any problems with communicating with director or counselors. My daughters LOVE this camp and look forward to it all year round! They swim in the pools every day, have different types of boats depending on ages, do all kinds of activities. My kids come home dirty and exhausted every day. I like the small group sizes, that is honestly part of what sold me on the camp! I dont worry about my kids being missed or neglected. The counselors remember them from years prior. It truly is a wonderful camp!

Such a camaraderie among the campers and staff of Camp Alvernia. My son has such a close bond with his group and they work together like a team. The sailing on the Centerport Harbor is unmatched. The campers truly learn how to sail and I believe the 5th graders are able to obtain a sailing license. The camp is set in the forest and the campers walk to their various activities like arts and crafts, swimming (free swim & lessons), nature, gaga, various sports, tennis by an instructor, dance, and more activities than I can list. Fairly priced and includes lunch & sailing. My son says it's magic. He has attended other well-known camps in the area, but this by far is his favorite! Camp Alvernia is a happy place & just epic!

There are so many on campus activities like water slides and foam parties, a big "Shingdig" carnival/bbq every summer, woodworking, edible art, dance, arcade, talent show, and so much more. They have on campus vendors come like pony rides/petting zoo, brain show games, magic shows... And the trips! The optional trips are always amazing. They change it up every summer so the kids have variation. My daughter likes to go on every single trip! Overall, camp tuition is on par with other summer camps of the same ilk. Whats super nice is they have payment plans where you can start paying in September and have months to pay it off. There are also a few different times you can get crazy early bird discounts. The administrative team is so super friendly and helpful any time you need something. It is almost like you are preparing for higher educational institutions, regardless of your age. I recommended this facility to a friend of mine, as her son wanted to spread his wings at USDAN, so to speak. The "campus" has changed greatly since I was enrolled, however, it has only been improved. The studios where teaching had taken place, were now solid buildings and not merely the wooden huts that I remembered so fondly. They are probably more sturdy during the occasional heavy summer rain. You still need a map to navigate the heavily wooded grounds. I remember having an assembly on a daily basis, which often featured a well known talented performer. There is a daily swimming class, a lunch hour as well as time to dedicate to both your major and your minor. There was also ice cream served by the friendly staff at the end of every day, as you walked to the bus. The teachers were phenomenal. Each one was incredibly talented and well versed in his or her craft. This definitely contributed to creating an exceptional experience. Highly recommended.

I promise that I'm not exaggerating. In the most technical sense, it's a day camp. But more like a cross between a college campus and an artists' commune, it's anything but your average day camp. Campers/students, who come from all over Long Island as well as all five boroughs, have total control over their course of studies for the summer and on your typical day at Usdan, nestled within acres of woods you'll find kids (up to age 18) doing everything from welding jewelry, firing kilns, or wielding paint brushes, to singing/playing scales, dancing on pointe, or playing improv games in a acting class. It's a both a place to learn a new craft and to cultivate an already burgeoning talent. Aside from the fab programs (with wonderfully encouraging and professional teachers at their helm), Usdan stands out in its layout and design. Someone made the brilliant decision to take advantage of the sprawling physical environment of the campus, and the result is that none of the "classrooms" at Usdan have both four walls and a roof, allowing art to be entwined with the elements in a really neat way. Many have a distinctly tree-house feel. Trust me when i say that this makes the experience all the more enriching, not to mention fun. There's also a great big swimming pool, an essential part of any summer experience. One of the most exceptional parts of the Usdan experience is the daily mid-day concert that are a daily part of each camper's schedule. For the first half of the summer, campers are treated to performances by acclaimed professionals from all over the performing arts world. It was during such concerts that I enjoyed seeing both Yo Yo Ma and Savion Glover (!!), among many, many others. Trust me when I tell you this is amazing. Concerts during the second half of the summer are dedicated to student performances. Oh, and also, among a nice list of esteemed alumni you'll find Ms. Mariah Carey herself.

We would take overcrowded buses to horrible trips and we would eat the disgusting and spoiled camp "lunches". Next, the counslers. The counslers are poorly selected and act like assholes towards us. They also think they have the right to take away electronic items from us such phones and handhelds when we were just innocently using them to play a game or so hi to a friend. They would force kids to triple up in a small 2 person seat so they can get their own seat normally meant for 3 people. They would force us to participate in things we don't want to do and treat us like 2 year olds. Every year, Twin Oaks goes to a broadway show and does a workshop in the morning before the show. The workshops are very boring and nobody enjoys it. If you try to sit out the counselors being the a-holes they are, will start yelling and they even made a couple kids CRY by yelling at them to participate. Also that day, we had stale bagels for lunch! Figures... I highly recommend NOT sending your children to this camp for day camp or the travel program unless, you want your child to be harassed by the so called counselors, sent on terrible trips, eat stale lunches and be packed into overcrowded mini buses. Even though the trips look like and sound like a lot of fun, the camp always figures out how to ruin it! They can't do a single right and they are very cheap!

Our program is unique from others, a daycare and preschool with many gym's and a fantastic gymnastics program. Our students at M.A.T.S.S. are getting the perfect balance of learning and active play. There were definitely some bumps in the road as this is my first child and first experience with daycare/ school. All the teachers know my son and are available to answer questions whenever needed. I may not like the answers but they try their best. In the beginning it was rough because my son cried everyday while drop off but it got better with time and I'm happy to say that he's enjoys his time there. Due to Covid parents aren't allowed to go in to the class to drop off and I'd have to say that was the hardest part. They have all kinds of activities such as water play, bounce house, and petting zoo, it's nice that the children get to enjoy all these various activities. Overall it's been a good experience this far.
