My dad requested that we use them before he passed, and it was a great decision. They were just very kind and patient in all the things we needed at a very sensitive time, and always responsive. Everyone we worked with there was so kind and compassionate. We had to make a lot of choices and our attendant was very patient as well as knowledgeable, and gave us plenty of time to discuss alone & decide. They offered high-quality beautiful programs that allowed customization and multiple photos. I really appreciated that they lent us professional grade photo boards to use for the visitation & funeral. The casket we selected was mid-grade, and in person looked high-quality, with a lovely color and finish. They even assisted me in having my Dad's dress shirt picked up and delivered back after cleaning. The room for the visitation was spacious and well laid out for mingling and conversation. They encouraged us to bring personal items of my Dad's to put around the room, and that really made things feel special for him. There was a TV in the back that played off a jump drive, and it made the viewing experience memorable. They were also so helpful and accommodating in trying to assist me in getting the slideshow to run how I wanted. Many people sat and watched the photos, and it was a perfect way to honor my Dad's memory. There was a private space available for immediate family to decompress and have a little refreshment near the visitation room, and it was so convenient and appreciated. They were truly compassionate professionals at the church funeral service & burial, as well. Casket transportation and the funeral procession was orderly and professional. Penny is reasonably friendly, but not the kind of friendly you need in the funeral business. The organization I am used to with other places was not there. Most of the time there is almost an interview process- the director is filling out paperwork with your requests as you are speaking to keep track of everything. I understand she is catering to a specific type of client given the more rural location of her business, but I was just glad the funeral was over. The prices are very reasonable, but there are a lot of restrictions. For example: No food or water upstairs, but the lounge is downstairs. No dairy or other products that could potentially spoil and make someone sick since the funeral home doesn't have a food license. Only one type of prayer card is offered. The printing was cheap- home printing you could do yourself. The day of the funeral, there was an issue with the flowers- we were not able to place the urn arrangement we ordered on the table because it was cherry, until plastic was placed on top. Penny was rude about the delivery of this information rather than being helpful. "You can't put that on the cherry table, it will ruin it." If you need inexpensive funeral arrangements and are restricted by location, this isn't a bad place to use. My expectations were higher given my previous experience so I wouldn't use them again.

The structure is very similar in style to other county courthouses in Michigan built in the same era, such as those in Lenawee County and Barry County. Like many of the older courthouses, the requirement for space necessitated a supplemental building. There is a modern building next door to the old Courthouse, as well as other buildings in town, that house county functions.
