Fourteen years ago, I used this funeral home for my dad's funeral. There were a series of missteps…read morethat almost kept me from choosing them again. But they did a great job this time with my mom's funeral so I wanted to update my rating. My team of Samantha, Mary and Eric did a great job from start to finish. At my initial meeting with Samantha, I expressed some concerns about what had happened the last time and she assured me that the team would have a seamless approach and they did (especially important as Samantha was going on holiday and the team was changing mid stream). There was none of the pressure this time to upgrade all the choices you are offered in terms of coffins, flowers, etc. There were solutions offered to questions raised on flowers, on how things would be set up and even when they heard my brother and I discussing that mom looked a little pale, they added some blush before her visitation to keep her looking her best. I asked that the obituary be a little more personal and I wrote up some thoughts and they incorporated it into the final piece and it really was well done. I also liked that they took our uploaded pictures from her obituary page and turned them into a video montage that we could show during our luncheon that showcased my mom's life. Each child was also given a stick with it on afterwards to keep the memories. Maybe it went better this time because I was more knowledgeable and knew to look out for the pitfalls. Or maybe they changed their policies. Or maybe it was a combination of the two. But whatever the reason, they delivered on what I needed them to do- be a solutions oriented team so that I could grieve and not have to keep thinking about what I might have missed. Thank you!

Recently visited for a funeral visitation and service…read more There were two areas for guests for the visitation. A couch, and chairs on one corner, a couch by another areas. I ended up standing for over an hour right by the guest sign-in book. The screen across from the large couch scrolled through selected family photos. There was a closet for coats. Another larger room set up with chairs for the scripture readings. The first room upon entry was a big room and conducive for standing, since there wasn't a lot of seating. I was glad I had come during a time with less people. The staff were buzzing around and at some point had to interrupt conversations to round up the siblings ahead of the readings.

Highly pleased with our experience in dealing with the funeral arrangements for a family member…read more McCabe's staff, in particular Anne the funeral director, were so nice and caring during this difficult time and worked with us to provide the exact funeral arrangements that our family member requested. There was no pushing back or trying to alter her requested funeral arrangements, but instead, did what was required to meet her request. Also, they work behind the scenes to take care many of the big/small details like cremation authorizations, notifying social security to turn off payments, getting death certificates, posting obituaries and so on so you can focus your immediate attention on the funeral and going through the grieving process without adding extra burden to it. Overall They made this painful process go smoother than I would have thought going into it and am so appreciative of their efforts in assisting/leading us through this difficult period.

Unbelievable, the worst, Mr. & Mrs. McCabe should be in a different line of work! I was burying my…read more24 year old son, not an older person with a long illness, I was still in shock about his death. I telephoned Mrs. McCabe to find out the status of bringing his body back to Michigan from St. Louis because the Medical Examiner had told me that my son's body had been released to McCabe's affiliate. None of the service dates could be set until we had airline information. Instead of explaining to me that the body was released, but ME paperwork wasn't complete so they couldn't make an airline reservation, she simply said that they didn't have airline information yet. When I said that perhaps I should've used a different funeral home, she said maybe you should've! Later, I telephoned Mr. McCabe and asked him if he would give me just a $100.00 discount on my $10,864.89 bill. He told me that he could not give me a discount, otherwise, he would have to change his entire billing structure because everyone gets billed exactly the same. I told him that he could simply give those people that are smart enough to ask for a discount, a hundred dollars off, and anyone stupid enough not to ask for a discount, shouldn't receive a discount. He then accused me of calling him stupid, which I didn't and re-explained to him what I had said. Regardless, later on I heard that he was telling people that I had called him stupid. Remember, I'm mourning and burying my 24 year old child. Even if I had been as rude a possible, they are in the funeral home business and should've been gentle and compassionate with me. Not rude and argumentative. Think twice about using people who act this way towards a person in mourning and shock over their child's death.
