I am a cancer survivor and have other health concerns so a GOOD doctor that I can talk to and who will address all my concerns - no matter how small - is a must for me. I tried going back to Odessa every few months but when some issues with my blood came up, my doctor felt like it was time for me to find an Internist in this area to be more closely monitored, so I began my search. I got some recommendations from my Hematologist - four or five names. I called several at random because I did not really know anything about any of them. I ran into problems like, "not taking new patients", "we don't take that insurance", etc. I called Dr. Anamekwe and was able to make an appoint fairly quickly. Honestly, I had put her farther down on my list because I have hearing issues and I was afraid I would have trouble understanding her, but I decided to give it a try. After making my appointment, I looked her up on the internet to see what I could find out about her. Her clinic is Vivify Wellness Center and I found out that they had a weight loss center. I thought, "Oh boy! I am looking for a doctor to address my health concerns and all she is going to be interested in is my weight." I have struggled with my weight for many years. I have been to many weight loss clinics. Trust me. I know the drill, but for some reason I decided to give it a try anyway. I was pleasantly surprised! Dr. Anamekwe is delightful, very personable, easy to understand, and took an ample amount of time with me. All through my visit, though, in the back of my mind was, "When is she going to hit me with the weight loss." I NEVER happened! We talked about all my history. She told me how she was interested in treating all my issues to the upmost of her ability; she shared her philosophy on medical treatment; and she never mentioned the weight loss portion of her practice - I had to ask her about it. She told me if I were interested in that, I would have to make another appointment just for it because her medical practice is separate. I was impressed. I have now been seeing her for almost six months. She discovered I was pre-diabetic. I am going today for blood work that I expect to tell me that I have completely turned that situation around. I did join her weight loss program, which is really just a lifestyle change, and I have lost over 30 pounds. The plan is easy and I am never hungry. I have very few cravings but when I do, I have learned that the taste of that food is not nearly as good and the way that lower number on the scale makes me feel. I am looking forward to getting off some of my medications - I currently take NINE. (Can you imagine the cost of that!) Recently I told her, "Dr. Anamekwe, you are going to save my life." She answered, "No, I am going to be the instrument God uses to save your life." Wow, when was the last time you got a response like that from a doctor? Once you discover that your insurance provider will cover the Obesity Prevention/Weight Loss Counseling Program. You will save yourself much of the money you would've spent on the commercial programs and be left with only your regular insurance copay. Vivify Wellness Center does offer shake mixes & bars but these are simply optional tools to help you on the way to your goal weight! It's not mandatory that you purchase the shakes/bars. They're an option if you want to. Seriously, I almost feel like I'm cheating when I think of the money I'm saving by working with Dr. Anamekwe versus the commercial weight loss programs. Believe me, I've about tried them all. That's exactly what it is too, you work together with Dr Anamekwe as she coaches you to a new way of eating. Her program introduces a new clean way of eating. I don't call this a diet because it is not. Let's face it too, the moment I think 'diet' I've already all but given up at that point. But when I was speaking with him, I felt like he was mining me for data, not speaking to me as a person. He referred to his nursing staff as his "girls," which was a huge red flag to me. Then, when he found out I'm a teacher, we started talking about parents (which is common). He shifted the conversation briefly to talk about mothers and how their emotional attachment to their children essentially makes them a bad parent. That it is the father's role to balance that out and ensure the child is ready to be successful at age 18. I've come to expect doctors to treat me like a statistic, but I'm not sure I want to interface with a doctor that is a low key misogynist. If I could give him 0 stars, I would.

I will say that their level of efficiency has improved vastly since they joined the Baylor network. Wait times are generally short now, whereas they were painfully long before and their billing runs much more smoothly. Communication is primarily done through the Baylor system and they are quick to respond to questions regarding my care. Their lab technicians have all been excellent at what they do, so I never have to worry about an amateur digging for a vein with a needle. Their staff is friendly and the entire office seems to run well. I would recommend them to anyone that needs a general practitioner in the Wyle/Sachse/Garland area.

I have been a patient of Dr. Steven Bander and nurse practitioner Carol Kick for over 6 years. When…read moreour insurance changed, and I told doctor Bander that he was not on our plan, he said, "Oh well. It's been nice knowing you." I was trying to be nice. His reply felt so abrupt & indifferent. Recently our insurance changed, so because of my medical history, I decided to return to them for a sick visit on 4/25/16. I asked if I needed to fill out any new patient paperwork. They said no, and that all of my medical information was still on file with them. (By the way, because of the recent hail damage in Wylie, they have merged and relocated to Lake Pointe Medical Partners in Wylie, on FM-544, just East of the Wylie High School.) On my 4/25/16 visit, I was seen my nurse practitioner Carol Kick. She said that basically nothing was wrong with me, except a little bit of congestion and to keep taking over the counter decongestants. She said if I started feeling worse, she would call in an antibiotic prescription for me. The next night 4/26/16 I was running fever and had infected congestion present, so I called their office the morning of 4/27 to let them know how miserable I was. I called twice. I was blown off and no one was helping me, and I was not given any timeframe as to when I would get a prescription. So, I gave up and saw a different medical doctor for a 2nd opinion. Upon examination by the other doctor, I learned that I actually had sinusitis, a double ear infection, and bronchitis (with possible pneumonia setting in). Carol Kick was way off in her diagnosis. Then, finally this morning 4/28/16 I received a phone call from a nurse on behalf of Carol Kick, stating that they had just phoned in a prescription for me and told me what it was. It was an antibiotic that I CANNOT take because I am highly allergic to this medicine. They should have known better! This is all in my medical file and is NOT new information. I am very disappointed at the level of service I received, and at the seeming careless attention to my health- both at the time of the exam (misdiagnosis), the time delay at responding to my medical need, and lastly, the carelessness of prescribing medication that would have been potentially very harmful to me. I will not be returning.
