I was transported to West Marion from Maricamp ER due to trouble breathing. The EMT/ Paramedic gentalmen were the best, they were so professional and kind I was able to calm down. The nursing staff were all kind and professional and yet they treated me as an individual treating me with care. They got me admitted to a room within 30 minutes.In the meantime I had spent 7jours in the Maricamp ER and by the time I got to West Marion I was so hungry, they was able to find me a sandwich. (I was so Thankful)They nursing staff came right in to meet me and introduced themselves. Jasmine and Miss (D) were so kind and helpful and expressed safety. If you need help be sure to call us. I saw the hospital doctor the next day, she was also very nice and she explained everything that she found from all the test that were done. She also let me know what the treatment plan would be. Well this is my second in my life review but still in a coma regarding the West Marion Hospital and now the Rehab part. My Mom left the hospital part sent to the Rehab part. The day to day workers were just fine. But they are sending her home still can't walk on her own. White blood count is still over 50,000 which is unreal. The Doctor never met me , talked to me being the daughter and no one told me anything as far as x-rays, test or anything else. Today I demanded a call from the Dr. and she called and said I was never in the room when she came to see my Mom......what? Am I supposed to sit there all day every day to wait for the Dr. to come in? How about a phone call??? Dr. said she called my home but I didn't answer....WHAT? What about leaving a message to return her call????? I guess the Dr. hasn't ever heard of that. My wife passed away on November 11 of 2024. The paramedics of Marion County were amazing. The fire department was nothing but over-the-top helpful. Did everything they could to try to revive her and save her when I handed her off after I was done doing CPR and the emergency room staff Went over the top and beyond to do what they could and to fully explain what really was taking place and had taken place. My mother was recently admitted to this hospital for a 3 night stay on the 3rd floor. I have been a nurse for 35 years and currently a nursing director at a hospital in New England. The night she was admitted, I called and spoke to her nurse who was extremely kind, honest and thorough. This nurse worked the next few nights and was my Mom's favorite. The day she was discharged, she told the day nurse to please tell Theresa thank you. I flew down because I was concerned about both of my parents. I met the nurse leader, Yolette, during her rounds the first day I was there. She was also very kind and helpful. My mother complained she waited a long time for someone to help her to the bathroom and that the housekeeper helped her to the commode. Mom also adored her nursing assistant. Alponso. The issues I found were that the docs did not round until late afternoon which delayed her discharge. The nurses did the bare minimum and did not answer her light in a timely manner. I had to really push to get answers and also to get Mom discharged. I wanted to make sure she had everything she needed before I flew out the following morning. I was disappointed at the lack of empathy expressed by her day nurses, the late rounding which resulted in delayed discharge and also disturbed to find a diagnostic concern resulting in a referral to a specialist that was never mentioned to any of us. There is potential at that hospital. I honestly think if the doctors rounded in a timely manner - it would make a difference. I don't know how to "make" nurses care but that is what needs to happen. Make a connection, talk with them...be kind. read more

Went in for surgery a month ago. The Friday before had all my pre-reg paperwork and testing done at a preset appointment. The nurse was great. I expected to be ready to go the day of surgery. Nope! The last thing I expected the day of major surgery was MORE registration paperwork. The tablet they gave me was hard to follow and I wasn't planning this when I was nervous. It kept resetting and I ended up with clerk taking it back. Then when waiting to be taken back for my procedure they came for my copay! As if I was prepared to make payments right before major surgery!!! Why did I bother going there the week before? I was so stressed before surgery. They would have canceled surgery if my daughter hadn't brought her purse. And then I was sent home the next day in extreme pain because they had my primary doctor wrong so I couldn't go to rehab! So very disappointed after hearing good things previously. Things are on a downhill swing. I don't trust them. read more

I was never told he was critical ! They left him in a none ICU room and honestly he was left there to die . I wAs told well there is nothing we can do . I went to the ER on a Sunday afternoon. The ER was great polite and prompt. I was admitted to a room on the 4th floor. That is where the issues began. They were prompt in doing my vitals that is where the polite and congeniality ended. The people in that shift and the overnight shift were stiff and rude. I was not given any gown nor items I.e. tissue, water, socks. I was told not to bring in my meds. They would be given by the staff. Well not all my meds were given to me. I realized I would be woke up periodically for monitoring. I was awake all night. The staff came in once to put dirty laundry in the hamper in MY room. I was told in the ER I could go to the bathroom by my self. A nasty night nurse while going over my information With the morning shift rudely informed me that due to my fainting in March I could not. I told them it was due to my meds and I have not since then. The morning staff was great (Matty and Alex). I was told by several Doctors I could go home after I told them I would get the recommended test at my regular cardiologist office around 11:00 AM. At 2:15 PM I was still not released. Waiting on Dr. Raghaw's paperwork. I entered the hospital at 2:22 PM on Sunday. Were they trying to charge me for an additional day? I signed myself out at 2:15 PM, I have never done that before. I am not sure I will ever use this hospital again even though it is the closest. read more

This hospital deserves no stars. My admission started with staff wanting me to sign papers that I was not admitted; I refused. It's hard to list all the mal practice I endured here: put in closet in er with no call button, no water or food- there for about 6 hour until I finally reached my cell and had to call main switchboard to transfer the call to the er (that admitted they did not know where I was) ( also note I am a heart patient and had no monitors on me for my entire stay.) ; and Dr. Schlinsky is to be avoided. Tried to give me drugs that a person with heart failure and diabetes should not take and he never gave me an MRI or did anything to diagnosis my extreme hip pain despite having an MRI order in hand from Dr. Muhammad at the Wildwood (American) urgent care center. The worst is, you can't sue and try to file a complaint with any organization who will address the issue. The state of FL tells you to call the hospital and make a complaint! There is no ombudsmen office. I tried when I was in-patient. read more

First of all, my mother went to the ER of this BUTCHER SHOP presenting with symptoms of a heart attack... they did a bunch of tests and 5 hours later sent her home saying it was nothing. 12 hours later she (thankfully) went to a REAL ER and turns out she had a 98% blockage in one artery, a 79% blockage in another AND had suffered a mild heart attack. Had she listened to Dr. Tran and not sought another opinion, she would most definitely have had a major heart attack and died. THEN ... these CROOKS have the audacity to bill her insurance $12K for doing NOTHING but almost killing her, to include billing for procedures they never even did (like a chest x-ray AND EKG, when all they did was an EKG). If only I could leave a zero star review. I was seen for a severe concussion/head trauma and needed to follow up with a neurologist and get an MRI in1-2 days after being discharged. In order to to so, I needed a referral from the ER Doctor who saw me, no one at this hospital was able to help me with a referral since they forgot to give me one once I was discharged. I was unable to be seen in time. God forbid I had any issues present on the MRI that needed immediate attention. read more

Ok update on my review from being in West Marion things were fixed in the room and cleaned and bed changed out from being broke and talking with head nurse found out Care I'm getting here is what everybody is getting that is here with Covid was told not to expect more than treatment of steroids antibiotics and breathing treatments if you're here with Covid no more no less still need to bring your own medicine from home and remember to take it don't take anything you have that they're giving you by the needle which all the medicine they give you steroids etc. antibiotics is by the IV still a great hospital just times are changing read more

Worst experience ever. ED was okay. This used to be a good hospital. Problems started soon after I was assigned a room. Asked for a gown. Got a lecture that I should have has one. Person made problem worse. I requested the patient advocate. Received a security guard and someone claiming to be a patient advocate. Instead of just giving me a gown, this person, instead of calming the situation made it worse. Never go there. It you do, take your own pajamas. They can't afford gowns or blankets or a friendly staff anymore. read more

This place don't deserve 1 star, but that was my only option. I went there Feb 2022 for headaches, nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness. The young man @ the ER put me as coming in with flu like symptoms, though that isn't what I told him or why I was there. I waited roughly 30 min to an hour, was taken back to a room with some kind of doctor, who didn't ck me out, just gave me two rx meds & sent me home. Meanwhile, the young man at the front put in my med records that I was a ex-smoker & had a history of nicotine dependence, that is funny since I am not a smoker & never smoked in my life. I call the Head HR lady over med records, I tried calling for 3 days, LVM & she never returned my calls. I could have went a little further to Advent Health & got better care. They billed my insurance over $1000 & for doing nothing. Definately the worst hospital in Ocala.. read more

Only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is staff. Joel in ER and Hannah 5th floor nurse over worked under paid ! I went in Tues 12/27/22 in major pain at 4:13 pm they did a work up and first doctor said it was Sepsis.. halls were full of patients, every room FULL ! They needed my chair in the hall so they sent me back to the outside waiting area ( I could barely walk) they come back out do a X-ray in the Chapel of the ER, then back to the hall. Finally get some medicine for pain and antibiotics. Back to the hall I went. After 2 hours they send me back to waiting area. Then guy comes out with a wheel chair and I get a CT SCAN , then back to waiting area in the wheel chair. An hour later back to CT I asked why, the guy says blood work showing possible pulmonary embolism.., now I'm freaking out but hey back to the waiting room and they took my wheel chair. I fell asleep on the couches, woke up confused and asked what's going on... the guy at the front jumps up and freaked out said omg you are admitted you need to be in the back... well back to the back I went. 18 hours later I get a room in the ER, 6 hours after I get a room on the 5th floor. I was told day 1 I need and MRI (they have 1 and a tech who is also over worked and under paid, super sweet) I wish I could remember everyone's name. I'm not a complainer I managed the bathroom with heart monitors and IVs by myself. I only asked if the nurses came by. This hospital is 10 years behind. They are under prepared for the amount of people who fled to the state in the last 3 years, let alone the people who bring entire families to be admitted just so they can go in the back with the actual sick person. I got my MRI on the 30th I was discharged on the 31st cause they needed my bed. Still in pain and no diagnosis. I took out my own IVs and monitors (I'm not in health care) I was in pain and done with it! Sad I feel for the staff they were all kind but this place needs to double up and triage people, maybe add an urgent care to the ER so small things can be handle separate. It was a disaster I am glad I'm home and managing my pain on my own! Stay away unless you are dying. read more

The staff in the cath lab who got me ready for lung biopsy were awesome. Radiology team who did the biopsy were great. Unfortunately I did get a pneumothorax, which I was told could happen. They admitted me for overnight till they did an xray the next day. Next day the doctor who sent me told me everything looked good and I could go home, he was going to tell the head nurse. I was told that the Dr. West Marion appointed to be over me had to see me. This guy tells me I have to see a pulmonologist. I told him I have one. Even though I had 2 of my own doctors tell me I was good to go home West Marion would not let me go. I assume they needed to keep charging my insurance company for unnecessary care. Getting out of there was like escaping a prison camp. The nurse said she had to give me an oxygen test. She made me walk fast up and down the hallway. She kept telling me I wasn't going home. It was like something out of "Twilight Zone". I did go home and I will never go back again. As for my oxygen level turns out I was anemic. Which had showed up on lab work they did but didn't read. It took me 5 days to get out of there. Even though I was told by the doctor that Sent me there on day 2 I was good to go. read more

Came here at 10:30 my wife had a sore throat and it was getting progressively worse. Took 3 hours to get checked by a nurse and another 2 hours to get swabbed! For the amount of people in Ocala that come here through these doors there should be more of a manning ready to help. When I came in there were twenty or so people all waiting for help. read more

My neighbor (in her 70s) struck her head doing yard work. The blood was just gushing out (that's normal for head wounds, but our RN neighbor was surprised at the amount) when the ambulance came for her. A few of us followed (after cleaning up & locking up) and when we got there, she was covered in dry blood & just sitting in the waiting room. No gauze to hold to her bleeding head nor for the cut on her arm. Not even an ice pack. They EVENTUALLY took her back for a CAT scan, but if a neighbor hadn't gone back to the restroom with her, she would still be caked in dried blood. At about 2 hours they sent her home. Staples for the lacerations. No offer of a tetanus shot (nor a question about if she was current on hers - she's not). No admonition to have one of us stay with her. Staff was nice. Not the standard hard plastic chairs, actual cushioned couches & comfortable chairs. The RN was stunned how little they seemed to feel was needed while we waited - nothing to stop the swelling or stop the blood. I just moved here from DE. Honestly, I was less than impressed with the "urgency" of care. read more

I went to the emergency room in extreme dental pain. It was Friday night so there was not a dentist to be found. Went to the ER because I knew I needed antibiotics and a good pain killer. I left with I prescription for antibiotics but nothing for pain! Oh wait, a prescription for a mouth wash which no insurance company would cover. $50.00 out of pocket for mouth wash! I had to endure a 48 hour wait to see a dentist with no pain relief. All because they probably feared I was a drug addict looking for a fix. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. Mom went to ER with back pain - incorrectly diagnosed as arthritis of the spine with no testing. She was given high doses of steroid. Well, today mom died of AML - a form of leukemia which one of the early signs is back pain. This hospital did absolutely nothing to assist my mom. They said it was stress, diverticulitis or arthritis. If they had listened to her voice her concerns that it was not diverticulitis (she had it many years and knew what it felt like) -she was a very active, cognizant and a retired RN. If they had listened, done testing they would have achieved a correct diagnosis. They did absolutely nothing for her - the prescribed steroids just enabled the undiagnosed leukemia to run rampant. The doctors' foreign dialect makes it extremely difficult to understand what they are saying. The dispassionate concern was extremely disheartening. By all means, stay away from this facility - go elsewhere. read more

This place is one of the worst hospitals in Ocala area. Went there to get checked out for ear problem. Soon as I stepped in the ED, the guy was sitting in front area (next to customer service) while playing with his cell phone, did not make an eye contact, telling me to sit with his finger pointing at a chair across him like I was a 5-year-old kid. No respect at all. Then, he talked so loudly with another staff - that the customer service lady had to tell them to shut off as she was having a hard time to listen to me while collecting my information (the customer service lady was great though). They acted like they were both in a bar not in a hospital! The Nurse practitioner that examined me looked irritated while asked simple questions, I asked because I am a nurse, I have good knowledge about signs and symptoms of illnesses, I just wanted to know your basic knowledge before I let you touch (examine my ear) and she probably did not like my questions or because she could not give me a proper answer, who knows?! Both her and the nurse that worked alongside with her felt annoyed with my explanations and questions. I know how it feels when a patient with medical knowledge background asked questions, we do not expect 'a nurse' and 'a practitioner' to know everything, they don't know everything, and they can't know everything, lol.! Just be patient and have a good bedside manner when you're treating a patient, you are both paid for that! I can attest to this because that's what I - at least do when I have an admission or when I care for patients that are assigned for me! They need an upgrade here in this hospital in all working area. read more

Beware - you are about to receive marginal coverage at concierge price I went to Urgent care which is false advertising to compete with lower cost quality health care service centers - but at West Marion you will be blled at ER prices - I was there for 60 minutes I saw a DR for total of 3 minutes - when I was told to go home and get a massage - then 2 weeks later billed $6,000 for which I am responsible for $1200 - maybe if i had received some medical care I would pay promptly but NOT with West Marion - i limped out barely able to walk - no service no relief just a rip off read more

Wish there was no star for this hospital. My Dad was admitted Sun, March 22. The staff advised us that there will be no visitor's at they hospital, and there are no exceptions. So crazy to think, that an 87 year old, has to be all alone in the hospital, when there is family who can and will visit. I tried to contact a social worker at the hospital, to let them know my Dad is 87, soon to be 88 and is hard of hearing, poor vision, and he has no cell phone to call us. Guess what no response from anyone at the hospital. Kindly, the nurse wrote our cell numbers on a paper towel for my Dad. My Dad has been in this hospital way to much in the last month, not sure he is getting the best care. Thankful he is home now. He will not be going back there!!! :( read more

My nephew was admitted on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. He had double pneumonia and his doctor said he should go to the hospital. He had a chest x-ray on Tuesday and not another one after that. So wouldn't a doctor have required another one with double pneumonia? Instead of receiving oxygen 24/7 he was given 4-5 20 minute oxygen treatments a day. Why isn't a doctor treating him with oxygen full time when you have pneumonia? No typical pulmonary treatment such as getting him to walk everyday even if it's only to the bathroom and then down the hallway instead of laying in bed for days. On Saturday, July 17, 2021 he was given Remdesivir, the Covid death medicine. And then he died at 10:30 Pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021. To add icing to this cake, his cell phone was thrown out along with his other personal belongings because they said that's normal procedure for a patient with Covid. After speaking to 3 different nurses working in Florida hospitals, that is NOT normal procedure. So did you all get that extra payment for killing someone with Covid? You all are cowards. I hope no one in your family gets Covid or maybe I do hope that happens, then you'll know what it feels like to feed the greed machine. You change peoples lives when you kill a family member. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Do not bring your family member here unless you really don't like them. Of course, there are some good over-worked staff, but there are also a bunch of incompetent liars on staff as well. If you're admitted, don't anticipate a clean room, clean linens, a bed bath or housekeeping to show up. My dad was admitted and worked up due to severe shortness of breath on 4/25/23. Staff was made well aware of his recent recovery from Lymphoma upon admission, yet the hospitalist wanted to rule out whether my Father eats too many Fava Beans?!? They failed to get a blood transfusion started in a timely manner (which almost took his life), didn't put him on Oxygen until Saturday 4/29 & withheld critical Hemoglobin values from the online chart. Do not trust Adrian (sp?) the Case Manager nor her Supervisor, Debbie. They will both smile & lie to your face! Thank God my Father is out of this place! I'll be contacting the State of FL next. If your loved one is admitted here, I suggest keeping tabs on EVERYTHING & getting a good advocate before they kill or allow your loved one to just pass away.
