It is the coziest little getaway in Luray situated on an absolutely beautiful property. There are five cabins in total that are intended to be a couple's getaway, so the property is always very quiet and peaceful. It feels very connected to nature- we've seen deer very close to each of the structures when we've stayed. We've had the pleasure of staying in the Dragonfly, Bumblebee, and Ladybug cabins and have really enjoyed each one- they all have a similar feel but are built slightly differently. This time around, we were in the Bumblebee cabin, which is quite spacious and shares a structure with the Dragonfly cabin. There was a gas fireplace and a TV downstairs where we spent most of our time reading; there was also a couch upstairs in the hallway outside of the bedroom, and a cute balcony we probably would have spent time on if it was warmer! It is absolutely the kind of place where you can just stay in your cabin the entire time you're there, but it's also located pretty close to Sperryville and downtown Luray if you're looking to venture out. To fully take advantage of SME, I'd recommend bringing your own food or groceries to cook- there's not a whole lot close by (which is part of the charm!), but the kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, oven, and stovetop. There's a pizza place that delivers right to the cabins, which is nice- honestly, the pizza isn't very good, but it's nice to have the option. There are also bottles of wine available for purchase in your cabin, which is nice to have available. You won't meet two nicer people than the owners of SME, Karen and Ralph. It is so clear how much they love SME and sharing their love of the property, which reflects their travels through Europe, with those who stay there. There will always be a delicious baked treat from Karen waiting in your cabin when you arrive, and if you're lucky, she or Ralph will show you around the property and tell you about the structures, all of which were built by Ralph and designed by them both. They are so friendly and kindhearted and make it such a special place to stay. As just one example- it snowed one of the nights we stayed, and Ralph cleared off our car without us even asking. SME feels so calm and peaceful- it's a true VA oasis. We're already planning our next trip back!

Details like coffee and tea anytime, filling and fancy breakfasts with choice ingredients, all homemade, and an abundance of flora and fauna to enjoy made it a bespoke, boutique experience. As we sat listening to the early morning birds from our balcony, identifying all the trees we could spot, my husband said, "Worth every penny!" Agreed.

Our room was quiet, clean, and the amenities were just what we needed for the weekend getaway. Daniel--the manager--worked with me to surprise my wife with a bottle of sparkling wine that was chilled in the room and a vase of stunning fall flowers. The food at the inn was amazing, fresh, and I only wish we would have also eaten here Saturday night! We enjoyed breakfast both mornings and had dinner Sunday night. During breakfast, they have many choices (all included) and we chose to try the omelet, the sausage gravy, and the eggs Benedict. There were also choices for French toast, a farmers breakfast, and they had gluten free options as well when asked. For dinner, because it was on Sunday it was the supper series that gives a three course option with the main choices being fried chicken or pork bbq. The location of this inn is ideal--a short drive from Richmond, northern Virginia, or Charlottesville. This makes it an easy getaway from the hustle of the city, but also not a super long journey. The inn is also a short distance from many wineries and historical sites. We will be back!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay, the views of the mountains were gorgeous! We like to get out in nature and the hiking trails nearby were awesome, White Oak Falls probably being my favorite. There were quite a few local wineries that were also a treat. The House was very comfortable, it rents by whole house or by room, and although we only rented a room, we got lucky and had the whole house to ourselves that weekend! The kitchen was nicer then my kitchen and such a pleasure to cook in. :) It was tastefully decorated, our bed super comfortable, we felt right at home. Grilled on the patio one night and enjoyed the sunset. It's nice to have a change of scenery! I plan of staying at the Hood House again, and would happily recommend it to others!

Each large room is beautifully decorated with vintage furniture. The living room and dining room are big enough to host a party, and the kitchen is ready for a chef. If you're attending a wedding at the nearby Early Mountain Vineyard, this is the perfect place to stay; roomy enough to accommodate an entire wedding party. I wasn't able to have coffee in the morning because they didn't have any non dairy milk despite the fact that I told them well in advance I needed vegan options. Not a huge deal just would have been nice to have coffee with breakfast. The only other problem was hubby and I had to nuke up our breakfasts since they cooled off on the trip over from the other house. Everything was delicious though. Betsy couldn't have been sweeter, she hung out and talked to us before we left. She gave a cool tour of the house and told us some of the history too. Truly magical experience overall. 4.8 stars

It was a fabulous get-away with all of the amenities of home (including a well-equipped kitchen with Green Pans that I loved). We cooked all of our meals at the cabin with ease. The cabin is also super comfortable with two good sized bedrooms; each with 2 beds and their own bathroom. The morning sunrise is beautiful as it comes up over the mountains and breaks up the morning fog. We spent evenings playing board games around the large round dining table and then enjoyed watching The Office reruns on Netflix. We also built a fire in the outdoor fire pit and made s'mores. The cabin is very close to White Oak Canyon where we ventured off for a hike on the only sunny day that we had while there. Did I mention the neighbors? No? That's because there weren't any....unless you count the cows grazing in the field next door. All in all a fabulous vacation. We'll definitely be back!

The room has a few tables and couches with tables for a more relaxed environment. Given the weather was perfect for a fall evening, we sat outside in a patio area. There are a few cocktail options (mocktails, too!) and small bites to nibble one. We shared the burger (Royale with Cheese) and hot dog (Beefy Cheesy)... both were juicy and had great flavor. We're also had the octopus, though it was a bit tough as it had seemingly been overcooked. Overall, the bites were great and I like that we could have cocktails in a relaxed environment. The tasting room had a small gift shop of sorts at the entrance, where they sell the bourbon they use in cocktails and other liquor.

I booked my room months in advance for the wedding because I fell in love with the Ville de Frejus room and its French decor and vibes. Didn't want to lose it, so I booked right away. I traveled alone, and it was a perfect place to be/stay. It had a decent-sized bathroom and a queen-sized bed. I'm still obsessed with the blue and white pillows on the bed. I need to find some for myself. Included with your stay is a chef-made breakfast, which was divine. They have a small menu, but everything looks so good. It's simple and perfect. One day I got the quiche of the day, and the second day was a traditional breakfast. All rooms are upstairs, so prepare to carry your suitcase up. I only had a carry-on, so it was easy for me. My stay was peaceful and quiet, and I didn't have any issues with any other guest being too loud at any point. Since I was going to be at wedding festivities two nights in a row super late, I was worried about getting back into the house. Super easy set up for so. The doors get locked at 6 as the staff leaves for the night. There is a side entrance you can use to go in and out, with a keypad and a code provided at check-in. So even though I arrived at midnight, I was able to get in safely and reach my room. Loved this Inn and will definitely stay here again if I am in town. It's also walking distance to everything I went to the whole weekend. As well as the main area with all the shops and restaurants. Parking is street only, but I didn't have any issues. Highly recommend!!!
