My friend and I had a wonderful time this weekend…read more Alan, the owner, greeted us upon arrival. He was friendly but gave us our space too. Alan also has a bird named Sweetie. When we arrived, the sheets still needed to be changed in the room, so we sat in one of the many outdoor spaces. Outdoor furniture could use some updating. I did not like the beverages and snacks available throughout the property. The beds in the Burke Room were a little too soft. I didn't mind so much but my friend with a bad back had some trouble sleeping. I could tell pets are welcome because there was a bit of dog hair on the comforter. The sheets were clean though. The highlight of the trip is the breakfast. Alan is the host with the most! The french toast casserole, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and jam, homemade granola, and yogurt were delicious. The best part was getting to know the other couple staying at the bed and breakfast. You will love the knick knacks throughout the property and there are games to help you relax. We were only about 30 minutes away from Charlottesville.

Centrally located 20 miles from University of Virginia (UVA) Charlottesville! The 9:00 AM breakfast -- that allowed us to sleep in -- was amazing, as you can tell from the photos: buffet style, eggs, swine, coffee, tea, juice!! The daily homemade granola was a winner (yogurt, locally produced honey)!! This is the best bed and breakfast, by far! You'll be stuffed!! Our two night stay was spectacular. We will return again and highly recommend it. As a bonus, you're greeted by Sweetie (the adorable cockatoo)!! Alan provided wonderful hospitality and conversation. The room had everything and more. Pro tip -- as we did -- visit UVA (rotunda), wineries, cider tasting (Bold Rock Nellysford), Carter Mountain Orchard (more Bold Rock, apple cider donuts, cookies, apple pie, hayride, pick your own apples, wine tasting), breweries (Devils Backbone), movies (Alamo Drafthouse), Wegmans (grocery), restaurants (Rhett's River Grill & Raw Bar, Burtons Grill, Sedona Taphouse). Spring and summer guests can lounge outside on the deck, plenty of seats. Next stay, we want to try some German fare at Bavarian Chef (closest restaurant), visit James Madison Montpelier plantation, and catch UVA hoops, football! See y'all soon Alan and Sweetie!! Again, bring your appetite!!

    ## Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast: A Perfect Shenandoah Valley Getaway (5 stars)…read more **A Dreamy Escape with Spectacular Views and Unforgettable Hospitality** My recent stay at Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast was an absolute delight. Nestled amidst rolling hills just outside of Luray, the location offered stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Finding the B&B was a breeze, and upon arrival, I was immediately charmed by the property's historic character, perfectly complemented by modern amenities. **Comfort and Convenience** The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was incredibly inviting, and the ensuite bathroom provided everything I needed. Piney Hill truly goes the extra mile with thoughtful touches - from having spare toiletries on hand (lifesaver alert for that forgotten floss!) to individual climate control - ensuring a perfectly relaxing stay. **The Heart of Piney Hill: Hank, Wiley, and Bob** However, the heart and soul of Piney Hill lie with the wonderful innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their warm hospitality and engaging conversation made each breakfast a highlight. Their stories and kindness were truly heartwarming, and I found myself looking forward to these morning chats just as much as exploring the Shenandoah National Park nearby. **Breakfast Fit for Royalty** Speaking of breakfast, it was without a doubt the best food I had on my entire trip. From the melt-in-your-mouth sticky buns to the heavenly French toast and the savory sage-egg-sausage bake, each morning was a culinary delight. **A Must-Stay for Shenandoah Valley Travelers** Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a base to explore the national park, or simply a place to unwind amidst breathtaking scenery, Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect choice. I can't recommend them enough! In fact, if you're staying nearby and can't swing a stay, I highly recommend checking out their take-out bakery. **A Fond Farewell (and a Scratch for Bob!)** Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for making my stay so special. And please give Bob the dog an extra scratch on the head for me! I can't wait to return to the Shenandoah Valley and Piney Hill in the future.

What a super sweet, comfortable B&B nearby Shenandoah National Park. We spent the evening in…read moreSperryville after hiking Old Rag during the day, and it was absolute perfection! Susan and Mike took care to make sure we had an excellent stay: Susan helped us make dinner reservations at Thornton Grille that were otherwise unavailable on Open Table, and then after we got home from dinner, Mike helped light our wood fired heater. The building is well maintained and very comfortable. Best of all, the breakfast was soo delicious! I hope I'll be able to visit again.

We just returned from 3 nights at Belle Meade B and B and can't say enough about how wonderful…read moreour stay was. We stayed in the cottage, which is a bedroom and bath with a porch on both sides and wonderful mountain and farm views. We had a good time watching the turkeys running in the field. And a hot tub and large pool out the back (though the pool was too cold for me in late October, of course). The bed was comfortable and amenities were high quality (thick robes, Dr. Bronner's soap, etc). I slept wonderfully well in the quiet. This is also the only B&B I've ever stayed at where the hosts came and tidied the room every day. The only other advantage/drawback (depending on your outlook) is the lack of cell coverage and the weak wifi signal. We had no problem with that, especially because you can always go into the main house and get a strong wifi signal. We did that for a "couldn't miss" meeting one evening and enjoyed sitting in the parlor and checking out the books and rocking chairs. Breakfast was stellar, all 3 mornings. One morning, the hosts (Susan and Mike) made whole-grain waffles using flour Susan had just milled from grain. With local apples baked for the top, a plate of fresh fruit (some from their garden), and a side of bacon. Another morning, breakfast came accompanied by still-warm bran/ginger/whole-grain muffins. And a bowl of local apples was always out. Which brings me to the best part of Belle Meade: Susan and Mike. They are wonderful people with a ton of accumulated knowledge about a wide variety of topics. They were great at pointing us to hikes and bike rides that were beautiful but also within our capacity (we're 67 and 76) and also recommending places to eat and visit. We went to "Flavor on Main" in Culpeper, which was great and "Blue Door Kitchen and Inn" in Flint Hill, which was really special. Staying at a B&B can sometimes feel awkward, since you're in someone else's home. But Susan and Mike made us feel right at home. We'll be back!

I would not recommend Prospect Hill Inn as a wedding venue…read more My daughter chose this venue because we were repeatedly told that if we communicated our wishes ahead of time, everything would be handled and we could simply relax and enjoy the wedding day. Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite. Upon arrival, we had to carry all of our belongings and wedding items down paths to the cabins ourselves. Although golf carts were available on the property, no assistance was offered. Prior to the wedding, we provided decorations and special charms that were to be attached to my daughter's bouquet in memory of grandparents who had passed away. We were assured that everything would be taken care of. On the morning of the wedding, we were asked when the bouquet was needed and stated 4:00 p.m. for pictures. By 4:15 p.m., we had received no communication. Multiple texts to the owner went unanswered. When I finally reached her by phone, she was not even on the property and said she would not be back for another 30 minutes. The wedding was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. I ended up locating the bouquet myself. The memorial charms had not been attached, and no one knew where they were. At 5:00 p.m., the owner still had not arrived, and no staff member seemed to know what was happening or what needed to be done. Our family was left coordinating the wedding ourselves. The ceremony was delayed until 5:30 p.m., which affected photography since the photographer was only contracted for a limited amount of time. To make matters worse, when it was time for the couple's first dance, the owner told my daughter that she knew nothing about it, despite it being included in the contract and paid for as part of the package. We were then rushed through photos because dinner was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., even though many of the delays stemmed from the lack of coordination earlier in the day. The owner also interrupted the couple's send-off over a pen issue that could have been handled later. The problems continued throughout our stay. The air conditioning in our cabin failed on the final night, leaving us in uncomfortable temperatures above 80 degrees. When we politely shared our concerns before leaving, hoping for an explanation or apology, none was offered. Instead, responsibility was shifted back onto us. We were also owed a credit on our account. Initially, we were told it could not be refunded because the original card used for booking had been closed. After considerable discussion, a cash refund was finally offered. However, when my daughter picked it up, it was $21 short. We were told this was for breakfast-in-bed delivery for the newlyweds, despite previously being told that this was included in the wedding package. Perhaps most disappointing of all, when the newlyweds checked out, the owner would not speak with them. This was a weekend that should have been focused on celebrating my daughter's wedding. Instead, we spent much of it dealing with issues that we had specifically been assured would be handled by the venue. We left feeling disappointed, stressed, and unsupported.
