Service was fast and friendly in terms of getting copies of my work keys made. My dad actually recommended for me to go to West Philadelphia locksmith and I was glad I did. I hade three keys that needed to be made and there was only two people ahead of me. It simply took less than a minute to copy. The guy charged about 5.00 to make my keys. They also sell keychain accessories such as all the football teams keychain however they were out of our very own 2018 Superbowl Champs- Philadelphia Eagles and I was kinda sad. This place was once THE place for anything to do with locks! They have repaired my house door locks, car door and trunk locks, even trailer hitch locks, as well as copy all manner of keys and have all types of padlocks and accessories... But despite being under the same ownership, that business is gone... After calling last night about service we were told by someone clearly drunk that the store was open (at 9:00pm?) but to call back at 9am for service. (The inebriated phone guy should have been a clue!) We call back at 8:55am and schedule a service call and we're told someone will be out in the am...5 calls later and a day wasted the same drunk who answered last night (is now back, Wife says he sounds like the same guy she's been calling back all all, but now drunk!), he just says, "I don't know what to tell you,"...I ask has the business been taken over by new owners? I'm told no and that there will be no more West Philly Locksmith in 90 days... It's already gone and dying a slow death while taking people's money! Just a couple weeks ago we paid for a service call and the lock is still not functioning, affirmation that drunken ownership/management does not make for good business... They established their business with BLACK dollars prior to this neighborhood experiencing these changes, and now that white people are moving in by the boatloads, they treat black people like they are nothing. I woke up on Saturday recognizing that I wanted to change the locks to my house, but somehow got caught up with the day and looked to realize that it was almost 2 pm as I ventured into the shop. The staff is friendly with a no nonsense cut to the chase edge, which is an interesting combination, that could rub some in the wrong way. It worked just fine for me. I described what I needed, was quoted a reasonable price and a ticket was quickly written up. The guy says ok and finishes the conversation to move on to his next task. I respond, "Hey, so when will you be there, I just want to make sure that I will be in the house? He pauses, says, "we close at 3 today, so we'll be there in a few minutes, are you heading there now?" I quickly get in my car and dash over to the house. The locksmith was there within 5 minutes. He then did his job really well by changing 2 sets of locks, making keys and finishing up right as the clock hit 3 pm. Now that's service. Thank you West Philadelphia locksmith! read more

I know this business inside and out (I am a manufacturers representative for some of their products). I can tell you that they are one of the absolute best locksmith businesses around (hands down). Phil (the owner) may not seem like the nicest guys to most people but I can tell you he is one of the most generous human beings I know and he is all heart. He really is a nice guy but he likes to act though because he knows if he lets you see his other side that he'll do anything he can to help people despite his business. As a locksmith they are truly one of the best and most honest businesses out there. If you go there tell Phil you know through the grapevine that he is a big softy and really likes to help people. I had a really great experience with this locksmith. I had to get a copy of an unusual key, and two other places had told me they couldn't do it. One of those places recommended W.Ph Locksmith. They did a great job - competent, efficient and reasonably priced. I couldn't have been there more than five minutes, and the key still works well a year later. They seem gruff at first but are incredibly professional and polite. It looks like all employees run a tight ship and take their jobs seriously. Nice people, very professional, and VERY competent at what they do! I had two difficult jobs at hand: duplicating a six-cylinder Corbin key and making a making a new key from a twisted, broken, old high-security key that I'd lost the duplicate for. I tried several places with no help for either problem. West Philly Locksmith duplicated my six-cylinder key in about 30 seconds for about $2 (might have been three... all I remember is that it was less than I'd expected!) and kept the broken key overnight. The next day they called me to say they'd made a new key, and the charge was $8 for a project I'd actually never expected anyone to do for less than $20! I'm not incredibly upset, and I can't comment on the quality of this shop's services here. I can however tell you that I called this business to find out if they could cut an extremely unique custom key. On being assured that this would be 'ok', I immediately drove cross town. The man who I would assume would be the locksmith, glanced over his should and replied, "No, we only cut keys that we sell." To me this is only a minor set-back, but I would imagine, that's a fairly old rule that would be much easier said to customers when they call your business on the phone. read more

The lady who picked up my phone asked for all information and told me they'll come in 20 minutes. I live 3 blocks away by the way. After waiting outside my apartment for 40 mins I called again to check, the technician told me he wasn't told to go anywhere, but he would come right away. The technician indeed arrived in 20 mins, did the job in 5 mins. Price is 85$ plus tax, credit card accepted with no surcharge fees. I was rushing to do laundry in the basement of my apartment building and managed to lock myself out. I called my management company because there are workmen who live in the building with keys to all of our apartments. They said that they would not send anyone to open up and told me to call West Philadelphia Locksmith Co. It is not the Locksmith's fault that my management company has this terrible policy. When I called the Locksmith Co. they said that since it was late they would charge me $135 to send someone. The man on the phone (who I spoke with each time and I believe is also who ended up coming to my house) told me that if I found a friend to crash with they would come in the morning for much cheaper. I think he said $85. I said that I was worried about being late to work but ok. I found a friend who lives in my building and she quickly invited me to stay at her place. But, I could tell that she was really stressed about a big interview the next day and I felt badly about imposing. So, I changed my mind and called them back. I said I was willing to pay the extra money, and asked to have someone come over. He said alright. Then he called back and said that he couldn't get any of his guys to answer and that no one would come. This was at about 11:20ish at night. He said he would come in the morning and reminded me that it would cost less. I asked what time he could come in the morning because I was still nervous about being late. My commute to work is about an hour and timing can make a big difference. He asked what time I needed to leave to get to work and said that he would come a couple minutes earlier so that I wouldn't have to worry about it. The next morning the guy to unlock my bottom handle lock. He told me that this lock was so unsafe and so easy that I really could have just picked it. He asked me to pay in cash, which no one mentioned and I said I couldn't. So, he asked me to come out to his white panel van and use the card machine. He got that thing to work (finally) and then proceeded to charge me $135 (PLUS TAX) instead of the $85 that he told me REPEATEDLY because he had come early- which I hadn't asked for and he had offered out of what seemed like kindness. First time I called the lady told me maybe Tomorrow it will be done. Few more days later (into next week) ETA? Answer was I dont know we're busy. My housemates did some research into locksmith scamming and we settled on West Philadelphia Locksmith Co. Though they just successfully rekeyed our deadbolt, the communication side of things was pretty frustrating. They were an hour late to the scheduled time and the person I spoke to on the phone was dismissive and short. Yet, once the van with the business' logo (seeing the logo on the van was very comforting) pulled onto my street the whole thing took less than 15 minutes and the man who rekeyed the lock was very sweet. It cost exactly what had been quoted ($85+ tax = $91.80 for a single cylinder deadbolt)!! Hopefully I won't need any locks changed in the future but I guess I would go with them again. Just be very adamant about calling and asking the name of the person you are talking to/the person they are sending to service your locks and clarifying the price and payment methods. read more

After calling on Monday to have my door lock rekeyed today (it's not working too smoothly), and making an appointment for an 11:00-1:00 window, here is today's subsequent chronology: 12:45: I called to see if they were running late and if so, to give me an update. He couldn't even find the work order I had called in on Monday! Strike #1. "It's okay," he says, "I've got a worker sitting on Front and Chestnut; he'll be there within a half hour." 1:45: I call again. Haven't seen anyone. Strike 2. Again, he says, "Sorry about that. Someone definitely will be there within the next half hour". 4:00: I call again. Haven't seen anyone. Strike 3. Shoulda walked away right then. But he says, "I have no idea why no one has shown up; I'm gonna get the owner on the phone, so hold on until he picks up." I think, "We'll, okay, maybe now I'll get some service". I'm on hold for, no kidding, 15 more minutes. 4:30: Finally, I hang up and, just for kicks and giggles, call back and ask this guy how long I'm supposed to wait for the owner. He responds, "What? The owner never picked up?", and at that point, I hear the owner, who is SITTING RIGHT THERE, say, "Tell her I'll call her right back." 4:35: Remember that I'm already at Strike 3 with this bunch. I hung up and called another locksmith who promised to be here in an hour. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but he just may do so. Stay tuned. By the way, the owner never 'called me right back'. Take my advice, all - do not waste your valuable time waiting for what is the most miserable customer service I have received from any business in a very long time. read more

I would highly recommend this business. I had an emergency yesterday whwn I locked myself out of my house. I called their shop and they told me that all over their servicemen were already on road but I would be next. I explained that I was diabetic and nweded access to my medication and was only about ten blocks away. A man named Chris said he understood and that he would figure out a solution to stay on my steps. Ten minutes later he rode up on a bicycle with tools in a backpack. He opened my door in less than five minuyes with absolutely zero damage to lock and charged me the minimum service charge,he was so friendly. I tried to give him a tip and he asked me to just pay it forward.When I asked what that meant he said if I ever had a chance to help someone else to do it, and ask them to pay it forward. Hate to do this because I had had such a good experience with West Philadelphia Locksmith in the past, but after a bizarre phone experience with one of their employees, I'm never using them again. I lost the keys to my car and called them before 5 pm on a weekday. The woman I spoke with was friendly and reassured me they could send someone out the following morning. She said they'd call me when they were on their way and suggested I call them first thing in the morning to get a timeframe for when they'd arrive. Next morning at 8:30, I called West Philly and was greeted by some dude. Literally, some dude. He sounded like he was either a teenage nephew filling in at the front desk while the actual staffer who knew how to answer phones was on a bathroom break. Or maybe he was a radio DJ who decided to try out a really lame skit. In any case, our conversation looked a little something like: Me: Hi, I called yesterday to schedule to have someone come out to Broad and Washington streets to make keys for my car, and I was hoping to find out what time you expected to get here. Dude: Who's this? Me: [Repeats myself] Dude: Where's your car? Me: [Repeats myself] Dude: Hold on. [Shuffling papers, background noise]. Uh, I don't have a ticket for you. Me: I spoke to Cheryl last night, and she told me to call back this morning. Dude: Oh. Where's your car again? Me: [Repeats myself] Dude: Yeah, sorry, I don't have a ticket for you. Me: I'm not sure why that is, since I spoke with someone last night. Dude: To be honest with you, it's pretty disorganized around here. Me: O-K, well can you come out sometime today? I don't think we can send someone out tomorrow either. Sorry. Me: [Desperately trying to make something work in the next couple days since I really needed my car for work] Well, should I call back at a certain time to see if you can come on out ? Dude: Uh, yeah. Calling back would be a good idea. I was perplexed at how little this guy actually cared about getting my business. I mean, even if you're booked solid for the next year, at least say so and apologize, so your caller doesn't write you up on Yelp. Silver Lining: I consulted Yelp for another recommendation and got AM PM Locksmith. They were great. The owner, Shai, was professional and efficient, driving down to South Philly and creating my car keys in under two hours total. I used West Philly Locksmith's once and the younger guy that came to my house tried to use "racial fear" to get me to buy extra locks and service that I didn't need. Very friendly on the phone, the other places asked too many questions when I called. West Philadelphia Locksmith said come right in. They quoted me $15 on the phone to get a tubular u-lock off the frame of my bike. It took the guy two tries once I got to the store but once the WD-40 went on it almost looked too easy. I don't really understand why they kept the lock though. I had tried to get the lock off for hours, I should have just gone to these guys in the beginning. read more

Well I used West Philadelphia Locksmith to correct that horror (after first driving by their listed address to make sure they were legit).
