Price is reasonable, service is great, and people are friendly. They take credit card and don't charge extra. That is convenient and favorable to the customer. My family earlier was looking for a master key that could work in multiple places in addition to keys that work individually. This could not be done in our situation unfortunately. I read some of the other reviews, and I think I can say that it looks like if you have a newer key that deals with electronics, then a different service may be better for you. If you have a standard key service needed, this place will do it for you and reasonably so. read more

McCausland is (or should be) a textbook example of how business...should do business. My initial phone call to inquire about getting a new key fob was quickly answered by Denise who set the tone for everything that followed. She was bright, personable, knowledgeable, and clearly interested in helping me. She asked questions to assess my needs and then clearly and thoroughly explained what they could/would do to solve my problem. When I arrived at the shop I was greeted with the same smile I had heard over the phone! Denise had my new fob standing by and immediately began the process of programming it. As I waited (which was only a matter of a couple of minutes) I witnessed other customers being served with similar enthusiasm and attentiveness by another employee. For the brief time I was there (and I was shocked by how brief it was) I was their #1 priority! No phone calls, no distractions, no waiting, no feelings that I had been pushed aside or forgotten. The fee for services didn't mysteriously change from what was quoted over the phone. I was charged...what I was told I'd be charged and I was out the door in under 10 minutes. They were punctual and friendly enough. However, it took much longer and cost much more than expected. We had three doors that needed to be re-keyed and it took 1.5 hours and $279 to rekey 3 doors (5 locks). All using one key. I appreciate this is a small business, and wouldn't discourage anyone from using them. However, I could have completely replaced all my doorknobs and deadbolts for less than 1/2 the price I paid for them to be rekeyed. I would consider their company again if I had a complete quote, including service and labor, in writing beforehand. A fee of $25 per lock isn't useful knowledge when 5 locks adds up to $279. read more

Back in 2016 I had 2 visits to McCausland Lock Service within a week of each and I wrote reviews on each visit. Those reviews were not the kind of reviews a company would want. Why? Well if you're really interested go back and read them. So when I went out to my car the other day and my car key fob did not work and I knew I needed a new battery for it, I was not eager to go to McCausland's. I called Harvey's Lock in Ridley and got their answering machine. I sighed and decided I would just go to McCausland's and take my chances. I called first and the woman who answered the phone was very polite and knowledgeable. Ok, good start. The next day I went to McCausland's. When I entered I was immediately greeted by Denise who was very friendly. I told her I needed a new battery and gave her my key fob. She said ok and went into the back. I sat down and before I could even start a game of "Candy Crush", Denise came back and said the battery was replaced. I walked up to the counter and told Denise of my prior visits to the store and how if only Harvey's Lock had picked up the phone, I wouldn't even have come to McCausland's because of my prior experiences. She apologized and said that there was a "new crew" at the store. I told her along with the attitude of the guy that waited on me, he took over 20 minutes to replace the battery. She again apologized for my prior bad experiences. I told her I did 2 prior Yelp reviews on the store and would now be doing another Yelp review, only this time it would be positive. So this is my positive review and I suggest if anyone had prior bad experiences like I did, that they try McCausland's again. Denise was a joy to deal with. read more

Needed a replacement ignition key and remote transmitter fob for my Acura SUV, since my better half had lost her set. Visited McCausland based on friends' very positive recommendations, and I had the pleasure of working with Charlotte and Denise. While I had already purchased a replacement key and fob, Charlotte politely informed me that she had two sets of my key and fob in stock in their shop. This was impressive, as three Acura dealerships could not secure one until next month. Charlotte then proceeded to begin cutting the key blank based on my personal working key, and subsequently, went out to my SUV to program 1) the key to the immobilizer unit, and 2) the remote transmitter fob to the vehicle for door lock and tailgate operation. She moved through the steps as if she has performed these tasks many hundreds of times. Upon checking out, the charge for her services was extremely competitive and massively lower than what the dealerships charge. As I fully expected, the newly-cut key turned easily in the ignition switch and the fob operated perfectly. I am certain their high quality extends to all of their provided services, and consequently, if anyone is in need of competent and reasonably-priced auto/residential/commercial locksmith service, you will be glad you contacted McCausland. read more

I called McCausland early this morning to determine if they were able to create and program two new key fobs for my vehicle. After a few quick questions, Tom (the gentleman I spoke with) assured me that he could provide the new fobs and have me in and out quickly. When I arrived at McCausland's it was obvious they remembered my call. The entire team greeted me warmly and were extremely friendly and accommodating. They worked quickly and made sure to explain everything (e.g. how the new coding was done, how to use the emergency key if needed, how to charge the fob in the car, etc.) The entire team at McCausland is STELLAR and my experience was fantastic from start to finish! Don't bother, worst customer service I have ever experienced!!!!!! Had a scheduled appointment one week in advance to have a key made for our Volkswagen Jetta. They told me to be there at 8:30am when they opened, and it would take 1 hour to program the key. We had a car break down and were literally 5 minutes late into the building. I called to tell them I would be a few minutes late and the women literally argued with me at 8:30 am not to bother to come. I was parked outside of the building by 8:33 am, when she stated her technician would come out to meet me. By the time I got into the office, the women told me her technician had left to go to another job. I asked her how the technician that was scheduled to be with me for one hour left at 8;35am. She continued to argue with me stating he had to drive to his next job at 9am. I said that is impossible if you had me scheduled for 1 hour, that there would be an appointment scheduled at 9am that required 25 minute drive time. She told me I was messing up her schedule and would put all her other jobs behind because I was 5 minutes late. She offered to cut the key that would not have the remote aspects that we had originally agreed upon, otherwise I needed to schedule for another day. I asked for another time that day, she stated she was completely booked all day. But, I said you must have an hour free at the end of the day, since you know have an 55 minutes free in losing my scheduled appointment. Honestly, it made no sense at all what she was saying. (I will admit I did raise my voice). She handed back the key to me and stated, I will not deal with your hostility. I suspect they likely didn't have me scheduled or over-scheduled themselves and used the 5 minutes late as a way to put the burden on the customer. I wish I had gotten this women's name, as she should NEVER work with people. Felt so disrespected by this women. read more

So when I asked to have some info emailed to me I was told "We don't email". Really??? Why then is there a "contact us" button at the top of their website that says "Please feel free to email us using the form below. Or give us a call at 610-xxx-xxxx. They brag about being 4th generation. I guess since the business was paid off years ago they don't care about getting new business. read more

Yesterday I went there to have batteries put in car remote starters. Unfortunately, they did not have them, but they said they would the next day. Today, they replaced the batteries, but only charged me for 1 since they were out yesterday. That is excellent customer service! Both young ladies were friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered a new pcm for daughter's car. Had to have the keys cut so I went in there and was told the keys won't work. Well that was the only thing the girl was right about. I called today, 9/3/2019, to see if I could get help with starting the car. I was told that I could pay $95 and they still couldn't help me. Called another locksmith who also said wrong keys were sent but took my old keys and after hooking up his scanner, reprogrammed the old keys and started the car. Charged me half of what McCausland wanted. Good way to lose a customer buy insisting you know all! I will never call them again! read more

EXCELLENT Place! When Home Depot couldn't make the key, they did! Our key broke in the lock, and I took two pieces of key to them. It was an OLD lock. They not only made the key, they gave me an extra one! On them! They wanted to make sure I could lock the lock. They also have a fabulous selection of keychains and fun things associated with keys. Had McCausland out to my house today, to make six keys and install a combination padlock, which required drilling, programming, etc. on a real big, real expensive front door. The tech was a nice guy and knew what he was doing; he showed me where to find the programming codes for the padlocks, and all six keys work well and smoothly. My 2 star review of a few days ago has been demoted to a 1 star. Why? Sadly, one of the two keys I had the batteries replaced in did not work. I was pretty mad. Sad for me, they didn't care. Don't they check the batteries before they had you your (car) key fob? Evidently not. Let's start from the beginning. There were about 3 people in the store when I entered. I could feel the tension in the air. I got in line behind one guy who was nearing the end of his patience with Steve. I commend the man for not jumping over the counter and ripping the "hand written" ticket from "Steve's" hand. Yes, like in an old-timey diner, they use pads to write up your order. When it was my turn, I held up my key fob and said "This isn't working." Steve seemed perplexed. "What do you mean" said Steve. Me, enunciating every syllable. "This. Battery. Is. Not. Working." Did "Steve" apologize or say anything? No. He took the key fob and headed to the back, not a "Sorry" or "Wait a minute". Nothing. When Steve came back with the key fob, he said "I tried this on the charger and it worked." Again, no "Sorry", nothing. I didn't say anything snarky, because I figured I'd have to be back in the store. Snarky like "Gee I guess if you'd have tried this one on the charger yesterday, I wouldn't have to be here today." But I didn't. So, if you need a key replaced and don't mind dealing with how the operation and its employees are run, this is the place for you. Or you could just bang your head on the wall for a few minutes. The end result is the same.....a big old headache. read more

I went to have a car key cut from a blank I had already purchased and programmed. Even though I didn't ask them to check the electronics they did check and told me, incorrectly, that it did not work. Then they refused to cut the key essentially because they could have made more money selling me the entire key with electronic and mechanical components. I then went to Hill's Hardware who got the job done right in under 5 minutes. read more

I went there with a key/fob I already bought. The older gentleman there looked at it and said, that's a Chinese key, I'm not putting that in my machine, he made me feel like an idiot. So I go to Della Polla's Lock Service in Havertown. The owner Mike cuts the key and programs it in 20 minutes for $89.00, and he was nice to talk to, very professional as well as reasonably priced.
