We knew that WSCW is part of the Sam Houston Wine Trail and were eager to try it out. The winery is nestled among the Sam Houston National Forest area and is very pretty! Adam, our waiter, was incredibly helpful with our wine choices. Additionally, he kept us informed about live music, food selections, and other wine-related details. Many of the wines that they create are outstanding! One of my favorites was their red port wine. By FAR the best that I've ever tasted among Texas wineries!!! The facility is delightfully relaxing, wonderfully decorated and "squeaky" clean. It is always a perk when the owner/manager comes by your table to speak with you and check on your experience. Small winery, intimate feel. We met Sandy himself, and he's a fun one! We tried 6 wines here: - 2018 Texas Blanc du bois (sweet) - 2020 Blanc du bois (dry) - 2020 Old World Blanc du bois - 2018 Pink rose of Texas - 2017 Texas Lenoir - 2014 Bounty Land Crossings My favorites were the blanc du bois (not the sweet one). I think I remember Sandy saying that Old World was made with oak..? Or something like that. Regardless, we ended up buying 2 bottles each of Blanc du bois and Old World blanc du bois (they have a 25% off special when you buy 4 bottles!). My only complaint is that they had us reuse our cups, although they did give us new cups for the reds. I would have liked a different cup for each tasting so that I wouldn't feel rushed to finish my previous tasting. There were also some that I felt obliged to finish, even if I didn't want to, because they were reusing cups. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit here - we had such a fun and delicious time! read more

The setting and staff are awesome!!! The wines are good. I say "good" because our palate leans towards a dryer red. They have a lot of sweeter wines and we ended up enjoying those. Those wines were even considered great to our friends. We enjoyed a fire outside with several VERY reasonable tastings so that we could try a lot of variety. The only disappointing part is that they don't offer wine by the glass and a lot of their bottles aren't available for tasting. All in all, we will go back and share a bottle of what we took a chance on and ended up enjoying! read more

My wife and I booked a stay with our infant and some of my in-laws for mother's day weekend. It was our first vacation in over two years and our first vacation with our 10-month-old daughter. John was very communicative, answered all our questions, and made our stay such a great pleasure! The cabin and all of the amenities inside were very well taken care of, and we had everything we could possibly need (other than food, obviously). The cabin came with satellite, fast wifi, a laundry room, several books, UNO, and a deck of cards - what else could you ask for?! We stayed in the 4-br cabin, which is located right at the entrance but was still very private and quiet save for the occasional car passing by (which you couldn't hear inside). We checked out the tasting room as well as some of the animals that live on the property; our baby loved the horses and zebronkeys as much as we loved the wine! The staff was very patient in walking us through the menu, which was super helpful to wine newbies like me. All in all, it was a great value for the price and a perfect first getaway for our family. This is such a fun place to go to. I went with my husband, kids, and my parents. We got to drink wine and eat snacks. The live music was good and wasn't too loud either. The owner is so nice and you can tell he really cares! The kids loved the animals (ask to buy some carrots to feed them). The wine is probably the best Texas wine I've had. Im not sure how but you can also rent a cabin there too if you want- go when it's not too hot and you could go hiking too. read more

Terrific winery, with staff that really know their wine. A shout out to Anthony, our server... gave us great suggestions after asking our wine preferences. His suggestions were on point...they had a lovely selection of wines. We went on a Saturday late afternoon...the place was packed, but everyone was accommodated. They have a lovely charcuterie platter for 2, 4, or 6 people...see photos. They also have a food menu if you want more. They also had live music. The venue was clean, friendly, and a lovely experience. They also have animals & outdoor seating, but it was too hot to sit outside. Property - 5/5 Service - 3/5 Wines - 3/5 This is a beautiful property in the national forest with a lot of space... a very relaxing and peaceful place to have a glass of wine. We randomly saw this on google while hiking the National Forest and decided to check it out on a Saturday and were surprised as we drove up to see how nice the place was. The patio was less than half full and they have cute little gazebos near the zoo which were also half empty. When we asked to be seated they said everything was full due to reservations and they could squeeze us in to a picnic table about 100feet from the building off by itself next to a dog pen. We are glad they accommodated us but the majority of the tables and gazebos remained empty the entire time we were here. They asked us not to do a wine flight (which is what we came to do) because it would be inconvenient to bring them to us. I understand the situation but it was still unfortunate and detracted from our experience. We asked if we could move to a closer table or gazebo until the party that reserved it arrived but were told it would be too much work to clean them (we just wanted wine... not much mess to clean). Once they dropped off our wine no one came to check on us in the hour we were here. Furthermore, I've done wine tastings at wineries in 9 countries and many states and in my opinion with sandy creek is that half the wines here were very odd tasting (especially the reds). The other half I tried were just ok... but of course this may just be a personal preference! Despite the criticisms from our experience, I still really like this winery and think it has a lot of potential. While they did accommodate us without a reservation (In an odd spot on the property) they did so unapologetically and more like they were doing us a favor (when we were there to spend money on their wines). I do recommend this winery due to the awesome property and there's really nothing else like it around! Try the wines for yourself ... everyone has different preferences! And make sure you make a reservation ahead of time or you'll be in the dog house (or in our case, right next to it). read more

they have animals!!! omgsh a camel, goats, dogs, zebra/donkey looking guys, horses.. you got it! they have two delicious sangria choices, specifically enjoyed the red which had a bit of cinnamon in it. my family tried the cab which was also enjoyable. we stopped there on a saturday afternoon and they had a nice duo playing live music with some fire tables lit. it also was nice to walk around the winery and see the animals they had on property. overall nice place! read more

This is the most unique winery I have ever been to! STUNNING views and all kind of animals to see while you enjoy your wine, the zebras were my favorite. The wine was decently good! I'm not a big fan of drys but I did drink all of the samples I had! I also got the cheese platter, that is where my rating is lacking a star. I feel as though it could have been better. It just wasn't worth the cost. But everything else here is worth seeing so you should most definitely make this a point to stop on your trip! read more

I had a fantastic visit to this winery about a week ago. Upon arrival on a Sunday, we were quickly greeted with menus and asked where we wanted to sit. We decided to do tastings so they led us inside to stand at the counter for service. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines, where the grapes are sourced, etc. We did a tasting of 6 wines and they had a great selection of both sweet and dry, reds and whites and rose. After our tasting, we decided to explore the property a bit and go check the animals out. For $2, you get 4 carrots to feed the animals with (we saw a donkey and 2 horses that day). It was freezing cold so we couldn't stay out long but we returned to the outdoor patio where they had fire pits and heaters to keep you warm. The staff members came over and put extra heaters next to us which was a nice gesture. There's ample seating inside and out. A little later in the afternoon, they had live music which was a man playing a keyboard and singing songs (he was quite talented)! I'd love to come back again some day because the hospitality was so wonderful and also I didn't get to try any of their food but I'm sure it's just as wonderful! read more

Surprise surprise surprise! This is a amazing winery without having to drive to the Texas Hill Country around Fredericksburg or fly to Napa Valley. First off the drive here from Montgomery was beautiful. BRING YOUR KIDS! The winding curves, amazing green pastures and beautiful National forest was so peaceful and serene! Then the drive into the winery opens up into the coolest farm, zoo, winery, with open spaces, chickens, stables, vineyards, etc., Hey they even grow their own grapes. And these were not planted yesterday. There are some old (by Texas wine standards) 5 and 10 year old grape vines here. The atmosphere is simply relaxing. The owners and manager greeted us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. The kids were given fruits and vegetables to feed the camel, zebra, and horses. We stayed outside under the huge porch to allow the kids running room which they took advantage. The tastings were great. The wines vary. Don't be afraid to Ask for the "off the tastings" card wines if you don't see something you want to try. Highly recommend the 2018 Texas Lenoir Blush. Recommend you take the drive. Our favorite place! We have enjoyed visiting them since they opened and we love coming out to see the amazing staff and drink some delicious wine. The family-friendly atmosphere is great for everyone; adults can enjoy the wine and staff and the kids are welcome guests and can run around and play on the property and visit with the zebras, donkeys, Joey the camel and many other animals. Sandy and Diego are such gracious hosts. Ten days before our scheduled wedding, we had to cancel it due to an issue at the venue. We were in a pinch and on the offhand change, we called to see if there was any way we could do something small and quick at the winery. Sandy and Diego and their staff put together the MOST PERFECT wedding and reception for 120 that we could have imagined. The food was great, the venue was unique and we could not have loved it more. For someone to even be willing to try and accomplish that in a ten-day time frame is ambitious. For it to be the incredibly exceptional event it turned out to be speaks to their expertise and work ethics and their simple willingness to give us the perfect day. Four of us in our party had a delightful visit to WSC today. I couldn't remember what wines I purchased a year ago and Sandy checked his computer records & found my previous order. That was personalized service! The wait staff informed us that due to Covid regulations we would sit at our table and order thru the staff and they would bring food truck orders or merchandise to our table. Great service! Then I asked Sandy to recommend another winery to visit for our afternoon fun. He called a brewery which wasn't open but then phoned another winery to expect us which was another delightful experience. Great personalization. We did have reservations which are highly recommended by me during these uncertain times. It is respectful to help the staff & owners know how to accommodate & prepare. Recommend the wines too. Pit stop a little out of the way from the Madisonville Mushroom Festival that was worth the few extra miles. Our favorite was the dessert wine, but we ended up getting a white, forgot what type. They do serve wine flights and food however we just settled for one bottle after doing the wine and beer tasting at the festival. The gentleman who greeted us was very polite and informative of the venue, wines, animals and himself. He made our trip worth it. The animals were comforting, my parents have animals back home so they were happy to see a farm like their own.
