This place is really awesome for its location. They don't have an onsite vineyard but doesn't take away from how awesome the place is. Great wines, love the Cab and their prickly pear wine. Really nice outdoor area that is pet and kid friendly. Shaded with fans, during the cooler months they have live music on Sunday's. The people there are the kindest people ever. I'm going to give this Winery 4 stars, but it could have been 5. The facility and area are super cute. Just what I would expect from a small town winery. I just happened to be on a backroads roadtrip and stumbled across it. The tasting room was quaint and inviting. Unfortunately, the staff was not. It was a Sunday and maybe she had a bad day, I don't know, but as a customer, we all like to be greeted with a smile and friendly attitude, the Texan way. She made me feel leery of asking for anything like it was a bother. I'll leave it at that. I had the 5 wine tasting option and meat and cheese tray. I loved all the wines I tried, especially the Blueberry, which I bought. I'm not a wine connoisseur or anything so I won't go into the details or description, other than to say they were tasty. I'd like to go back and try again, hopefully the service is a bit better. I'm big on customer service so if it fails again, it'll be my last. If you don't care about how friendly the staff is, then absolutely go! Facility is awesome and the wine is wonderful! read more

Came here during a trip to Chappell Hill. We enjoyed the short yet picturesque walk from the car to winery and I did the 5 wine sampler. I enjoyed the white and the reds were a bit less amazing. Their non-grape options like blueberry and prickly pear were good too. The service was very friendly. There is a deck near the parking area, that is perfect for enjoying a glass. read more

One of the best wineries I've been to in central Texas. We tried the unoaked Chardonnay and the Sauv Blanc and both were excellent. We went with the Sauv Blanc for our picnic on the lawn. The grounds aren't the most beautiful we've seen but it is very pleasant so still recommend it. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They even give a little snack with a bottle of wine. This is a little off the path. You have to park a little bit away from the tasting room sadly you don't get to see any of the grapes or varieties being grown on the property. The pours for the tasting (5) of $10 is a good pour definitely worth it. The lady who is waiting on us was very knowledgeable friendly and loved them the wine stoppers. We were on a winery tour to celebrate my 43 times around the sun. This was our first stop and my favorite. They have the potential to be five stars but are not there yet. It was a pretty enough day that outside on their large covered patio with nice views was great but you wouldn't want to be out there in the dead of summer. Looks like sometimes they do the wine tasting inside, currently the inside looks rather cluttered. Jim the owner was a really nice guy that shared the most details out of all the winery's regarding his wine making, and his orchid in general. He also gave the most wine tasting (5) but not the most wine. He is only a one pour kind of guy except with the birthday girl. I was trying to get on pour decision level. I was able to acquire the two bottles I wanted from this location thanks to my gal pals who treated me for my birthday. I will say this winery also had the most decent prices out of the 3 we visited. The shop is a stroll down the hill, and we had a picture opportunity as they had just cut down some trees. We were able to taste 5 wines, they were 1) Sunset, a red, 2) Tribbiano, 3) Wild Mustang, a rosé. The last two on this lovely day trip, which I suggest, Blueberry and Mango Blanco. One last fun fact they are on the Texas Blue Bonnet Wine Trail the Largest wine trail in Texas. read more

You can tell that the owners are genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about wine. Fellow wine-o's, come hither. Let me tell you of a place when southern hospitality is alive. The ladies here are genuinely so nice and love what they do. Imagine going to your mother's house; and she does your laundry and meal preps for you. That is the kind of service these ladies give. The wine here is so goddamn good. Make sure to budget in some wine bottles to take home because it is really really good. Reds, fruits, and wines are top notch. Also the winearitas that they sell are delicious. My group of 12 likes the pink (pomegranate and blueberry?) winearita. Just buy everything because you will be kicking yourself on the way home, if you don't. Our party felt very welcomed here and well-cared for. This was our first stop, at our second one, we wished we were at the first one. Even though it's small and there is only one bathroom, I would still opt to drink all of their wine here than at any other nearby winery. read more

I've gone to Texas Star Winery two, maybe three times, and always walked away with a few bottles to take back home. The Winery is located in Chappell Hill and is part of the "Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail." The tasting room itself is in what looks like a house. There is plenty of parking, outdoor seating, and yes, the outside is dog friendly. The tasting room is inside, though. While they make and sell wines from grapes, what sets them apart from other wineries I've been to, is their fruit wines. Wines made from hibiscus, plumb, cranberries, and prickly pear. Yes, you heard right. Wine from fruit. And buyer beware - the alcohol content is the same as wine. I like to pour it over ice with some sparkling water and - voila - a quick sangria for poolside sipping. While I'm not a huge fan of the wines, my mother is. So I always bring her back a few bottles to enjoy with her friends on game night. Hence, the four star rating. They also let you taste more than what you select from your tasting, so I'm always happy to buy more wine than I actually need. They serve crackers and souvenirs/wine related gifts. read more

We wandered to Texas Star Winery on our way back from College Station! Texas Star Winery has a great property - including lots of outdoor tables! When we were there, there was a guitar player playing some great music on the porch of one of the buildings. We enjoyed our time drinking wine on the grounds while listening to music! What I didn't love? The wine, sadly. They're known for their fruit varietals, but after our tasting, we decided to stick with a more traditional wine (which was just okay). So was it a great wine experience? Not really. But it was a lovely afternoon. read more

This place was very good! The wine was awesome and the bellini's taste amazing! We showed up an hour before they closed, I wish that would've been our first stop instead of the last stop because the scenery outside is very beautiful. It would be a lot better if it was cooler but either or, it's nice inside and outside. They have a better selection of "sweet" wine in the area that I favored more. I had never heard of a hibiscus wine, so I took that one ASAP for $17 I believe. I think the wine tasting was $8 but I know the bellini's were $8 and you get to keep the cup. read more

I came here on a spontaneous road trip to taste more Texas wine. They completely met all the standards for Texas hospitality. Cindy, ( I'm sorry if I spelt that wrong) came to our table to carry out the tasting with us and was genuinely interested in our thoughts the whole time. She was delightful. The rest of the staff were SO FRIENDLY and hospitable. I'm not one for Merlot, but theirs was bold and smooth and, most importantly, delicious. We were checking out 4 of the wineries on the Texas Bluebonnet Trail and this winery was probably my least favorite. I thought the price for the tastings were reasonable, however the pours seemed small in comparison to our other stops. We also ordered the meat and cheese plate - which was about $12 - and not worth the value in my opinion. The wines were interesting to say the least. There were a lot of fruit wines which I thought I'd enjoy because I'm a fan of sweeter wines, but the flavors were a little too strong for me. Overall, the place is really cute and the service was great but the wines are not in my preference personally. read more

Nice little rustic and peaceful setting just off the Main Street of Chappell Hill. Lots to do and see around the area also for a day's drive from Houston. They have some interesting fruit wines, especially the cranberry, but my favorite was the Chardonnay~pretty traditional in my tastes. Had a nice conversation with the owner, learned a little history of the place, and had wonderful service. Heard there may have been some sherry, but was sold out. That would've been outstanding! Just left here, and really enjoyed it! There was a large group here for the wine trail, but they were still attentive and focused on us as well! The grounds are beautiful and there's a large outdoor area with benches, swings, trees, etc that's nice to sit in and walk through while you sip your wine. The wine: we did a tasting which was $8 for 5 tastings. There's plenty of options to choose from including prickly pear made from cacti which was our fav and a cranberry wine, blueberry etc. The wines were great, but we didn't love anything enough to buy a bottle. But that's probably about our taste. Overall super friendly people, gorgeous grounds, good wine, good prices. Definitely check this place out! read more

I'm a huge fan of pleasant surprises and Texas Star Winery was one of those on this past weekend's Bluebonnet Trail. Though I was excited to visit because I had never been there before, I was a bit gun shy because of the two sample wines - hibiscus and prickly cactus... Sounds interesting but flavor-wise I thought they might falter... Boy was I wrong. Both wines were delicious. And different than anything I've had before. Not too sweet and would definitely be a nice refreshing wine to pair with BBQ (not that Texas knows anything about heat or BBQ, but hypothetically speaking...) The folks who run the winery are a family... the dad has been making wine for years at home and they are all quite knowledgeable. They talked with us about picking the top parts of the cactus for the wines and where they get their flowers from (note: not Texas, which is mildly disappointing). They even gave us tasting of their other wines which were offshoots of the hibiscus and cactus... a sherry and a sparkling wine. All were quite delicious. I don't think I'll make this wine my "go-to" drink, I prefer the grape variety, but all their samples were really delicious and unique. I will definitely return for some tastings and probably purchase a bottle or two... If you're in the area, or even if it's a little out of your way, I would recommend you make a stop. My mom and I visited the Texas Star Winery this weekend and to my surprise, I left there knowing more about wine and what there is to love about it than every before. Family owned and operated, the Texas Star Winery has gone out of their way to not just make wine, but to loving expand the market. I will admit that I am a steak and potatoes, cold beer kind of girl who was never very open to figuring out just what kind of wine I might like but THIS place has changed that. The father and son duo at the front counter educate their patrons with excitement and a passion that is not seen much in ones work these days. They will change everything you ever thought you knew about wine and what it was, wasn't, or had to be. Using ingredients such as Mandarin Oranges and Chocolate, cranberries, prickly pears, Hibiscus and yes a grape. When Early (owner) finally decided to make a wine from grapes, though, he didn't use just any old grape. He used a wild grape, picked from one of Texas' very own barbed wire fences along the Bluebonnet trail. His love from what he does is obvious and when I [accidentally] made a face at the tartness of the Cranberry wine, instead of being offended, Earl (owner) simply stated that every good wine maker can make adjustments and turn it into something you'll like. He then proceeded to add a little of the prickly pear to make it a little sweeter and VOILA! A new, amazing wine! We WILL WILL WILL be returning to this fantastic little place which, incidentally, welcomed and served us free of charge. Don't tell them but I would have paid WAY more for that memory. I dare you to leave there without making a purchase though... won't happen... :) read more

We absolutely love this place! It's a cute place for a date with your honey, but we also had my husband's birthday party here. They are absolutely accommodating and are so friendly! In fact, they know us by name even though we've only been there a few times. I highly recommend their hibiscus and plum wines, which are our personal weaknesses, but having tried most of their products, everything is so good! I get a winearita every time we go, which is essentially a margarita, except remove tequila and insert wine. Wonderful people, wonderful wine, and a lovely venue! read more

I seriously loved this winery and the wines! We stopped by during a wine getaway weekend-the place is set back in the trees and the grounds are beautiful. The owner told us they have music outside sometimes, and I just bet that is great. The tasting room is well decorated and new. We were the only ones there on a Friday afternoon and when we sat down and saw their list of wines, I thought we were in trouble...prickly pear, cranberry, hibiscus..on no! Fruit wines? And I am with a crowd who doesn't like sweet? Not gonna work... However, the complex and unique tastes captured us all. For example, the prickly pear starts out as if it is going to be sweet but then completely surprises you with a dryer finish. The hibiscus wine was so complex, I can't even describe it. And the cranberry was wonderful (and will make a great mulling wine). We left with a bottle of each of these, and my parents bought two bottles as well. Chappell Hill is less than an hour from home, and I am already plotting when to come back. read more

We served the Sunset Red, Starlight White & Cranberry wines at our wedding in the fall and they were such a hit! I did a wine tour of the Chappell Hill area and this was our first stop. Our host was interesting and quite humorous with his tidbits of knowledge. The wine wasn't too bad either. I'm more of a Cabernet or Chardonnay person but you don't find many of those grapes in Texas. While Texas Star did have a Chardonnay, it wasn't available to our tasting group. So when it comes to Texas wines I prefer sweet over dry. My friend that I did the tour with loved the dry whites and reds we sampled while I loved the Hibiscus and the Prickly Pear wines. Our tour group was around 50 people so we were seated in a large room with the barrels to accommodate us but when the sampling was over we made out way to a cute, cozy room with wine themed trinkets and tables and chairs where you could enjoy your purchased wine and get a cheese tray to accompany your beverage. If your are touring the area, do yourself a favor and stop in and try Texas Star Wine. read more

The owners provide the background story of each wine as you experience it and are happy to answer questions. Came back, was served by a young college aged girl who treated us all very rudely and spoke to us like we were stupid. She was sadly very annoying. Didn't like being talked to by a kid who has no clue how to speak to human beings at work. We spoke to two other groups of people outside, who we didn't know, who all commented on the same thing. Visited the Texas Star Winery this past weekend on the Texas Bluebonnet Holiday Wine Trail and loved it! It is a little out of the way (only 20 minutes from Montgomery) but the drive is beautiful as you go right through the Sam Houston National Forest. Huge Pine Trees and roads that wind around farms and horse ranches. Like the other poster, I was a little apprehensive about their wines... made from a cactus and a hibiscus flower... but wow! They were delicious! They also make a wonderful cranberry wine, not too sweet, and a bubbly cranberry that was just wonderful. Earl and his wife Lyn were just the most delightful couple. We learned so much in our hour and 1/2 there and they were so interesting to talk with. Definitely make it a "must stop" if you are ever in that area and make sure you give them the opportunity to tell you all about Earl and his wine making techniques and ideas and the history of the land the winery sits on. We bought 3 bottles and can't wait to make it a routine stop on our weekends in the Montgomery area. read more

The winery needs more signs to help future patrons guide them. We blew right by the driveway and didn't even notice it at first. The tasting room is a quaint house tucked back in some woods. We went for my brother's birthday, very excited for a new texas experience but found ourselves very uncomfortable by the lack of southern hospitality. It's a little house in the middle of nowhere, what attracted us to the venue were the goos reviews. We walk there, see kids playing outside w a cat... think how nice. Walk in, full of people laufging, ok nice vibes. Sit our family at the table, get in line for wine and are not greeted by the man serving wine, instead he says "those kids yours? (Referring to my nieces) They can be here but they need to be quite." Meanwhile it's mega loud bc everyone is talking & laughing. We say ok, take the kids out. Get ready to leave. " Did your family pay?" I say, "Yes sir." He says, "Well I need you to go make sure that everyone paid." Really? Are you always this rude and bitter or were we the lucky ones? 0 southern hospitality or regard for others. Will not go back. Pleasant Hill has much better customer service, great ambiance, more wine served in your glass AND you're allowed to go outside on the property to go explore. read more
