    Basic Combo Meal

I came here several times in college, but came back for a quick stop before going to an ISU game. I got a sourdough sandwich with turkey and vegetables. Pretty good, the sourdough just wasn't my favorite so I'll probably go back to my regular wheat. Quick, friendly service as usual. Plenty of seating with booths or chair. This place has a vibe that makes it seem like it's been an Ames staple forever and has lots of cool artwork. Street parking is available with meters, or park in the back for free (off the side street).

I ordered the Large Chicken Bacon Ranch on onion bread and it was amazing. The large sandwich was so huge I split it into two meals.

Absolutely fantastic place and a must for those living in Ames and those visiting. Fresh, quality sandwiches made to order that offers pickup. The generous helping of chicken is so juicy and flavorful, the bread deliciously freshly baked, and the toppings fresh and crisp. They offer a wide variety of options to cover everyone's preferences including vegetarian and gluten-free.

This unique deli is my favorite spot for a sandwich in Ames. You can either get a sandwich with combos they have come up with or you can create your own for a little less. I like to explore their combo sandwiches because they usually end up pretty tasty. Sides do not come with the sandwich, however, the sandwich itself will fill you up. I've tried the chili and Mac & cheese before, both are great additions to your meal. Be careful with the chili because when they say spicy they mean it. Customer service is great, you can add anything onto a combo sandwich at no extra charge and they will add a good amount of whatever you want. I have not had a bad experience here and neither have my friends. This is the place you come back to after you graduate and find yourself back in Ames.

Still 5/5 but I had to give some love to my favorite Ames locals especially during COVID. Went here today and experienced the patio!!! Never sat outside before but today was beautiful! LOVE the patio, it was a perfect way to enjoy my delicious Reuben sandwich.

Biggest disappointment was that while alcohol options showed on the menu, they were unable to serve any alcohol - claiming that their liquor license had not yet been renewed. I was craving a spring roll with peanut sauce, so to start things off, we ordered #90 Bo Bia steamed spring rolls with shredded shrimp, carrots and sausage served with plum sauce (see picture). While the wrap was thicker than the 'paper' wraps that I'm used to, they were very good - and I really liked the plum sauce. My wife was undecided and our very helpful waiter Archie, suggested #69 Com Ga Chien Xa Ot (chicken breast fried with spicy lemon grass - see picture). It was good, but both of us would have preferred a bit more spice, as we ended up adding Siracha at the table. I was considering #99 Banh Xeo Vietnamese style crispy pancake stuffed with shrimp, pork & veggies based on the menu picture, but Archie talked me into #97 Banh Tam Bi Xiu Mai udon noodles with shredded pork, steamed pork meatballs and veggies instead (see picture). I was impressed with the coconut milk and lemon sauce that he poured over it when served with the instructions to stir it all together - very tasty combination of savory, sweet and tart, with a very slight spiciness. Vegan food really isn't my thing, 95% of the time I'm carnivore, but here we go... Lol I've eaten a little bit of vegan food over my lifetime. Mostly Indian, but a bit more that is out of the box. Gyro style sandwiches done with plant based proteins, etc... Vibrations Vegan Wellness Cafe set up in our break room today and I had the chance to try their food. I was going to take the safe way out and order the burger and one of my co-workers offered me a bit of their "fish". Heart of palm in a corn meal breading with a homemade tartar sauce and Frank's hot sauce. I had a short conversation with Mo (the owner). Very personable. Today it was just a one person operation and I didn't want to take up too much of their time. I ended ordering the "fish." it came with a side of greens and mac n cheese. If I had to compare it to something it would be similar to a mild white fish where it takes on more the flavor of the seasoning and the sauces used with it. The seasoning was on point and I really enjoyed this! It had a similar shape and look to fish so it's not much of a stretch. The heart of palm's texture is more stringy than flakey, but not that different. The greens were very good. I'm not sure what they are seasoned with, but they had a bit of a kick... With all transparency it was the mac n cheese I was dreading... Every vegan cheese I've ever tried didn't melt right and it was just off. This was not. I'd put this up against the mac n cheese at a lot of BBQ joints and I don't think you could tell the difference. Once again...very good. I don't think I'll ever be vegan by choice, but I'll tell you what... If something in my life/health ever makes that choice for me... If I could have vegan food that tasted this this it wouldn't be much of an issue. The fish was an off menu item that I see they serve fairly often from their Facebook page. I'm glad they brought it with them today! Hopefully Mo is able to come back, I can place an order with them, or I can find them serving at other locations, and I can try a few more of their menu items. I'm not sure if they have a true physical brick and mortar. It looks like they might operate out of a truck. Check out their Facebook page for better details than I can probably provide. Veggie Thumper fits that mold splendidly! - It's not within walking distance to my house - I'm not veg/vegan (though, man, they have converted me) - It's...a literal bus. First things first, let's talk food. After telling my mom I was heading her she asked me to grab her something to support the business. I got the buffalo mac and she get the red bean burger. The mac was amazing! It had a wonderful blend of texture and flavor. A kick (which I love) but it's wasn't overbearing. I've never even considered spinach in mac and cheese but loved it! I had one bite of my mom's burger and now am know exactly what I'm getting next time. It was...so good. It's been over 48hrs and I'm still thinking about it. Second, the service. They were so incredibly kind! The were happy, fun to have a little light chat with (even though I had never seen them before in my life). They were, finally, efficient! They were quite quick to get my order out even though I was not the only one out there to support them that day. They had a good amount of customers. I...can not WAIT to go back here!
