    Basic Combo Meal
    Hannah V.

I came here several times in college, but came back for a quick stop before going to an ISU game. I got a sourdough sandwich with turkey and vegetables. Pretty good, the sourdough just wasn't my favorite so I'll probably go back to my regular wheat. Quick, friendly service as usual. Plenty of seating with booths or chair. This place has a vibe that makes it seem like it's been an Ames staple forever and has lots of cool artwork. Street parking is available with meters, or park in the back for free (off the side street).

I ordered the Large Chicken Bacon Ranch on onion bread and it was amazing. The large sandwich was so huge I split it into two meals.

Absolutely fantastic place and a must for those living in Ames and those visiting. Fresh, quality sandwiches made to order that offers pickup. The generous helping of chicken is so juicy and flavorful, the bread deliciously freshly baked, and the toppings fresh and crisp. They offer a wide variety of options to cover everyone's preferences including vegetarian and gluten-free.

This unique deli is my favorite spot for a sandwich in Ames. You can either get a sandwich with combos they have come up with or you can create your own for a little less. I like to explore their combo sandwiches because they usually end up pretty tasty. Sides do not come with the sandwich, however, the sandwich itself will fill you up. I've tried the chili and Mac & cheese before, both are great additions to your meal. Be careful with the chili because when they say spicy they mean it. Customer service is great, you can add anything onto a combo sandwich at no extra charge and they will add a good amount of whatever you want. I have not had a bad experience here and neither have my friends. This is the place you come back to after you graduate and find yourself back in Ames.

Still 5/5 but I had to give some love to my favorite Ames locals especially during COVID. Went here today and experienced the patio!!! Never sat outside before but today was beautiful! LOVE the patio, it was a perfect way to enjoy my delicious Reuben sandwich.

Disappointed to say the least, I came in the back door not realized there was a correct door and was rudely cut off by other patrons at the front desk. I had to wait several minutes to be waited on and the place had plenty of spots. Maybe because I was a party of 1... they didn't seem to care. After I shared what drink I wanted, I learned they were out... fine no problem. I asked about the Thai specials, the waitress was clueless. I had to ask for the restaurant week menu and ask about the specials. She said they looked good but couldn't describe them and hasn't tasted them. I got the salad on special, but get this... they were out of the main restaurant week special... such a let down. The ambiance was mixed, one corner was a cute date night the other corner was crying children. All dimly lit and outdated decor. The whole experience was off, I ended up leaving after my one drink and salad. I hope to give this place a second chance sometime but hope they aren't out of dishes and I can get a trained server. Maybe another night for sure!

The wide availability of British goods for purchase/take home (teas, sauces, biscuits etc) is adorable. The service was first class. The UK beer choices were wonderful despite not having Speckled hen available. I was torn between the fish and chips and the pork vindaloo having been a fan of across the pond fare for decades. I opted for the former. While the chips were perfect and the curry sauce second to none, midway through the meal I realized why I didn't love the fish. The batter. On advice of other reviewers I ordered the dish crispy and I think that helped but I finally realized not only did I not love the fish-the batter made me hate it. I finished the latter half inside out if you will and that made it acceptable. Maybe the vindaloo will turn my opinion but in inquiry I was told it was a medium hot-which in the Midwest typically means mild. Maybe next time.

Just the one sauce now, but it is a lovely yogurt based bit of tastiness. We also got a side of falafel. Falafel is always hit and miss for me. This was a definite hit. Once again a wonderfully complex taste from something so simple. The wrap had a nice bit of crunch to it after being on the grill. I do think they made a mistake and accidentally put the soy ginger sauce on it instead (?) as there was no eel sauce. However it was a small mistake and the food was still really delicious. I also ordered a jasmine mango tea. It was alright and the toppings were generous (lots of popping boba and mango slices) but the tea was super bitter like it had been oversteeped. The new space is larger and more comfortable, although they need to solve their noise reverberation issues due to the high ceilings. In fact, we asked to be reseated after the laughing at the next table sounded more like loud witches cackles. The new bar area (with a good selection of draft Iowa beers) is nice and if they wished, they could do a lot more with live music. The menu is almost the same as the old space, and I did notice some omissions (like sliders). Dad enjoyed his Classic Burger, while Gayle and I chose the Back & Bleu Salad, which although "OK", could have been better with dressing on the side, instead of the "drowning" version we experienced. So maybe this time around was more of a 3 Star experience. However, I'll assume that Brick City is working through it's space, staffing, menu, and noise issues, and that my next visit will settle into the experience that I have so enjoyed here.
