Did not finish the job, made excuses to delay finishing our job ***Until the next Season***, went…read moreback on their verbal and written agreements, tore up ~200 square feet of our lawn, and then egregiously misrepresented the situation to avoid responsibility for not finishing the job. Details follow: 1) We agreed to remove the fallen portions of 3 trees for $8000. 2) They offered a cash discount, and gave us an invoice for $7000. 3) After the 2nd visit, they left half of the yard covered in trunks and debris and expressed disinterest in coming back for various reasons. 4) They offered another discount for delaying the job "until Fall," or they would keep the price the same and come back sooner to finish it. The new total was $6500, and we hold on to $1000 until the job is done, so we paid $5500 at their office. 4) Later they changed the deal, and said they were offering a discount to NOT finish the job at all ($6500), or else they were going to put off finishing our job "until the next season" (ie. 1-2 months out...). 6) They blamed my wife for being 'frustrated' as the reason these miscommunications occurred, not knowing that they were on speaker phone and I heard what they said and offered myself, and she was always friendly. They claim the delay in finishing the job is because they're "too busy with emergencies" (...until the next season...) 7) Then they demanded we pay the remaining $1000. We kept our word. They removed about 2 trees, and our yard is still covered in debris, entire tree trunks, and they left having done maybe 2/3 to 3/4 of the job if I'm being generous. Our yard is torn up badly with entire solid dirt patches, estimated ~200 square feet in addition to smaller patches throughout as a result of their tools, tractors, and methods, which we unfortunately signed away in our contract (we upheld our end...).

Thought the service would be great. However, when I called to schedule the tree removal, it took me calling and leaving messages three times before I finally was able to schedule on my 4th call. No messages were ever returned. The day they came to remove the trees, I was told they'd have to return the next day to grind the stumps. No one returned the next day. When they finally called to schedule it, they gave me less than 24 hours notice and when I said that didn't work, they scheduled for the next week. Imagine my surprise when, I looked out my window as I was getting ready to leave for a scheduled event and I see a tree grinder ready to go to work on a day I told them not to come. My husband spoke to the employee who was not aware and did not have the tools to dig up the plants I had asked them to do so I could move them. My husband spoke with Alfredo who said the employee there to grind the stumps could possibly do it if we paid him $50 off the books (once again, digging up the plants was included in the original estimate). To top it all off, I received a call 4 hours after the grinding was finished to find out if the could come over the weekend to grind the stumps. There is a severe lack of communication between the various parts of this company, phone calls aren't returned and they don't communicate with the customer efficiently. I hired them based on my neighbors' recommendation and my initial contact. They will not receive my recommendation for anything nor will I ever hire them again.

There was a bit of an upfront delay as I waited to ensure their license was shown as active on the MD DNR website, but that is resolved now. Once past that, the work crew was out to my house within a day and they had the tree down and removed within about two hours. The stump grinder arrived an hour or so later and took care of all the stumps effectively. Benfield Tree Service's cost was competitive and the work was performed to my satisfaction so they'll be the first company I contact for similar jobs in the future and I recommend them.
