We were immediately impressed with how beautiful the grounds were, there were lots of beautiful flowers, magnificent water views, and abundant charm. We had an amazing time touring the house and grounds. Our guide, Maggie, was excellent, she shared interesting details and told the story of the Smith-Appleby family with humor and pride. We were most impressed at the sustainability of the homestead and how it has served this family for nearly 300 years. It was an absolute privilege to spend time here and we felt very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend the morning touring the buildings and grounds, including a visit to the family cemetery at the front on the property. Tours cost $5 per person and a yearly membership is only $20.

They give tours the third Sunday of the month from 1 - 4 , so plan accordingly! It was a beautiful day... I have to say the grounds are lovely. What a great place to just enjoy a short stroll. My son enjoyed picking up sticks and poking around the small stream that runs down from the road. We also took a look at the graveyard with all the old stones. The house itself is very interesting with a few things I'd never seen before. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone there was very welcoming and we just had a really nice afternoon... my son ,who is 7, really enjoyed it as well. A great local place to visit, especially on a nice day. I'll be back to check out some of the events that they hold periodically.

Stones clocks and…read morespirals The Swansea Town Hall is a lovely old building constructed in 1890. It is a very vertical looking structure made from local field stones. A stunning and lovely sight to anyone that loves old stone architecture. The stones are rough and of different types and colors. Gives the building such a cool texture and look. With it's very narrow and vertical shape it reminds me of an miniature version of a medieval cathedral. The huge but not functioning clock almost looks like a giant eye peering out of the top. The inside is surprisingly small due to the narrow space. Just a bunch of administrative offices and people going about doing their jobs. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and enjoyed talking about the great place they worked. I did find a cool spiral staircase that led upstairs but it was just for storage and all the doors were locked. Not even sure they was a way to get to the very top. It didn't matter. The glory of this grand old building is seen from the outside. A town hall to savor and appreciate. Their kind will not be built again.

After perusing the crafts and vendors outside, we ordered some bratwurst and a large pretzel and took our food in to the downstairs Rathskeller to enjoy. We ordered beers to wash down the food, and the selection of German brews was great, with very reasonable prices. The rathskeller is nicely decorated and has a variety of seating - bar, table, and there are also some games as well. We sat at the bar and had a great conversation with another guest who was visiting for the first time as well. Would definitely return for the Oktoberfest celebration!

I noticed that this library is adjacent to the Lincoln High School which I imagine is a huge blessing to the students. I did see a couple students inside, so I think it is a popular spot to go after school to hang out or do homework. Since it is small, I found that there was an overwhelming number of books on display. I did like that they have different sections to study in with different layouts--some with computers, others with chairs and tables, etc. I did not see too many outlets on the perimeter of the area of where I was which did not make it study friendly. I did like that they had a plant section where you can take home some seeds to garden.

Both the children's room librarian and the checkout desk librarian were friendly. It was very easy to sign up for a card and I enjoyed hearing more about the library. The children's room is adorable and was chock full of awesome books. I appreciated the back to school book suggestion lists that they had for every age from baby to fifth grade! I checked out quite a few from the list. Parking is easy out front and if you want to stay longer than 30 minutes there is more street parking just ahead of the library and the town parking lot a block away. I look forward to more library adventures.

It has a soothing atmosphere that can be a real snoozer, and that's a compliment. This particular location also offers a good selection of foreign movies, which I really appreciate. The first floor below houses the computers and the children's section, complete with a friendly reference librarian. While the hours are somewhat limited compared to larger libraries, and parking can be a challenge, it's conveniently located right behind Main Street, East Greenwich. After your visit, you can head straight for a stroll. There's even a bike rack close to the entrance. The patrons are mostly older individuals who look like genuine book lovers, along with young parents and children who likely come for the activities and the dedicated children's area. Like many buildings and homes in East Greenwich, this library boasts a beautiful, historic architecture.
