Today, Historic New England, the group that manages and maintains Arnold House, offered free tours…read moreof all their properties. I had visited Arnold House back in 2021 but the interior was closed. Today, I got a great tour of the inside. The family that originally built and lived in the house in the late 17th and early 18th century had 10 children and lived in the space of one large living/ great room, one kitchen, one huge bedroom for the entire family on the second floor and a spacious attic for storage and maybe also a few kids. The docents here were extremely knowledgeable about the site and friendly, encouraging questions and photos. There are also beautiful, short trails around the property as well as a small picnic area near the parking area.

That's because instead of moving and consolidating…read morethe small graveyards into the larger ones like most states did, Rhode Island let the family and small town cemeteries stay where they are. Even made them into historical sites. So these old graveyards are everywhere in the Rhode Island. People that live here get use to them but when someone visits from another area they frequently notice the small graveyards that seem to located in strange or unlikely places. Some are in parking lots, behind stores and houses and there is even a tiny and very old graveyard right near the runway approach at the International airport. This historical cemetery is located sort of behind the Smithfield Town Hall and seems to be a family graveyard. I saw a lot of the names Loomis and Lomas on the stones. Most of the graves are from the mid 1800s, not particular old, but some do have interesting, it worn designs. The entire graveyard is surrounded by a cool, old fence. Not a large graveyard and certainly not an very old one. However it is historical and deserves to be remembered.

It's 15.00 for adults and I believe 13 or 12 for under the age of 13. The trailer sits low so you get to see and enjoy everything. The workers are extremely nice I forgot to say that. They have so much land it's crazy ! The scenes are a great idea , and they have a good amount of actors they just need a little more for each set. Some sets were well put together and some were a little cliche. BUT I really did enjoy the scenes they did have , you got lots of time with nothing ( anticipation is great but I also don't want time to drag). I just think this place needs more scenery , or a few actors just randomly sitting on the trailer or randomly popping out even for a second. My other idea is to make sure in the beginning to tell children to stay seated , I saw plenty of children running around while we were moving such a safety hazard. ( parents should know this ). I'm trying not to say much so I don't spoil anything , the concession stand stuff is super pricey , but I mean hey you need candy right ? I liked this place very much though. I was scared a few times, and it was my sisters first time and she had a great time.

It's Halloween eve and a rainy night. My 10 year old and I embarked on a Victorian mourning tour…read moreat Hearthside. When I booked the tickets I thought it was a good idea, turned out to be a GREAT idea! I grew up just a few miles away and have driven by Hearthside thousands of times (no lie I now drive by twice a day to get to work) and have never been inside. Tonight my intrigue has been fed. Beautiful house, restored and maintained nicely. The volunteers are knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions. They were well equipped with information not only about the house but also about a former resident who passed away inside and even more about Victorian mourning traditions. Our tour was 6:30pm so it added to the slightly eerie feel the night before Halloween, entering in dark. The tour group was kept small (about 9 of us) which I think was the perfect size to move about through the house but also to fit in the size of the rooms. The volunteers were all dressed in proper Victorian attire and the house was prepared for mourning and a wake. A few tips when visiting the house: 1. Contrary to my thought of it being an old house and probably a little cold, the heat was roaring inside. 2. There are stairs and touring this house requires a lot of standing 3. This specific tour does go into deep detail about embalming, not for the faint of heart 4. My daughter enjoyed the tour and understood almost everything with little explanation. I would say not suitable for kids under 10 years old. A beautiful house filled with people who very much care about the stories that lie within its deep history. Well worth visiting. This is a great skybridge connecting the Providence Place Mall and the Omni/Convention center…read more From here, you can see much of the skyline of the city and the cars coming on/off the I-95 highway....all these views, while you stand several feet above Memorial Boulevard. The structure is not climate controlled, so it can get hot in the summers and cold in the winter months.

The Providence Skybridge was built during the construction of the Providence Place Mall to connect…read moreit to the Omni Hotel formerly the Westin; it was open in 1999. This Skybridge can be found near the South Garage of the mall and CVS. The bridge goes over Memorial Blvd. It's currently painted yellow and is covered with glass. This is a great feature because it's safe and protects people from the elements, especially in the winter. I've been walking through this since the early 2000s. On the other side of the Omni, the Convention Center is also connected to it. We would park at the mall and walk through this bridge and the hotel to get to the convention center. Overall, a great addition to the city and definitely a landmark that needed to be added to Yelp!
