Relish Cafe - The veggie stack was the vegetarian option back in 2018. Then it changed to the vegan taco - also good!

Great location with outdoor seating over the beach (3.5/5 green stars)…read moreI just reviewed the Relish café at Southgate in Drogheda so I'm taking a trip down memory lane to review this Bettystown branch of Relish. I've been here twice over the last few years and both times it was an enjoyable experience. Coffee drinks were good (better than the Southgate branch) and my veggie dishes were very tasty too. Probably the best thing about this branch is the outdoor seating that looks out over the beach. A few years ago I had the veggie stack for lunch but I think that has been replaced by vegan taco. Nice to see a totally vegan option on the menu (and some vegetarian options too). I'm also giving Relish Bettystown 3.5/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. * They have a reasonable number of vegetarian/vegan items on the menu but could do with a few more. * Most of the meat dishes contain chicken, which is more sustainable than beef. * They use free-range eggs and organic bread for the French toast. * The website says that Relish uses "fresh and seasonal ingredients from local suppliers" but could be a bit more forthcoming with details. I wrote to them for more info but didn't hear back. For a few items, such as cheeses, they do name their sources. Would be nice to know where things like coffee beans come from. I…read morereally wanted to try traditional Irish fare so I was a little disappointed when I saw nachos on the menu but I decided to give it a try anyways. They have a lot of different menu items so I decided to ask the server for local food items. She advised that the mussels, calamari, haddock and ribs were local so we opted for a large bowl of mussels and regular size plates of haddock and ribs. They had a lot of interesting choices from all around the world but I like to taste the local ingredients when in traveling. We got the mussels in the white wine cream sauce and I was very happy with that choice because they were so fresh and almost sweet. My dinner companion was not happy that this mussel was tiny. It didn't bother me. The Haddock boujons were perfectly cooked and crispy. They came on top of a little mashed potatoes with mushy peas. For the final plate we got the ribs. They were heavenly, I almost want to say the best I've ever had. The reason. Why is because the meat was tender like butter. The flavor was delicious but it wasn't heavy or heavily smoked like the libs in the USA. They were like air. Not sure if that makes sense but it's the best way I can describe it. For dessert we got the Bailey's cheesecake. It was so smooth that it was like a mousse. Soooo good. The house wine was an insanely good Sauvignon Blanc. The service was great. They were very attendant. The ambience is casual which I liked. The only negative mark o can give is that the beer on draught is German. I was dying for a pint if Irish beer and had to settle for a bottle. I would recommend this restaurant. Everything we had was good

The spot is located up a literal winding staircase that takes you into an inviting room that boasts a lovely view of the river below. We didn't go to the third floor, but I can imagine it was equally lovely. They've got an impressive wine list and a moderate beer list that's predominantly bottle. Interestingly they don't have spirits so the mixed drinks are wine cocktails - boss! I tried a white port and tonic drink - seriously next level! I don't often find wine cocktails and even more rarely are they really good! The menu is impressive and seasonal, save the potted crab and haddock, which are on all the time. It should be know for any who dine with our crew, that we share a lot, so everything we had was enjoyed by all 5 of us. The crab was unbelievable! Creamy, flavorful, magical. The beef cheek and fish plate were also perfect for sharing. We also had two scotch eggs - these could have a Klondike bar (look it up youngins!) like marketing campaign! We shared the Haddock and the Pigs on Green Port Tenderloin. Both were awesome, with the Haddock more memorable. We haven't had such delicious mashed fish since Iceland and the cheddar mash and onions were the perfect accoutrement! The chocolate fondant was delicious and the bread and butter bread pudding was life changing. The whiskey sauce is something I'd swim in if given the chance! It was lick the plate good. The service was spot on and we got out of there for about €50 a person, full and happy! The whole evening was excellent and this place definitely deserves the accolades. If you're in the area, you should check it out!

This is evident by the name drop of some producers in each dish. My family was able to try a scotch egg for the first time, some beef cheek, crab and a charcuterie board with meats from Cork. Even the beers we ordered were local as well, mine from the Waterford area. Our server walked us through this experience with ease and we all couldn't be happier with our time here, especially for a Sunday afternoon when it could have been a lot louder and chaotic.

The mixed veg was a nice addition. As the veg was hot it made the meal more hearty than your usual salad. For breakfast I was feeling hungover so decided to go for their 'traditional' breakfast rather than one of the healthy protein filled options on the menu. The breakfast comes with homemade brown bread or toast and tea/coffee. The highlight was the tasty sausages! Friendly staff and a bright light filled room makes the Anvil a good choice if you are in the area.

It's basically a fancy sandwich bar! The menu has about 25 sandwiches to choose from and only about 10 mains! I just don't understand how a restaurant can have so much choice of one food and so little of anything else! Also the thick cut fries are basically half roast potatoes! I got like 15 roasties as opposed to just throwing 25 skinny fries which would of been so Much more appetising! Nobody likes spud overload! Staff are so good, helpful and polite! It's very kid friendly but the menu really lets this place down!
