This is just appreciation review for Casco Bay Veterinary Hospital. We had a pet emergency, and while we chose to go somewhere else, the Casco Bay folks were so lovely and compassionate, they initially couldn't help us (their exotic animals vet was in surgery all day) but gave us recommendations on who else in Maine could (both in Kennebunk: Southern Maine Hospital for Small Animals [but they don't do emergencies and aren't open on weekends]; Angelus Urgent Veterinary Care [scheduled appointments for emergencies usually starting at 2pm; and, open weekends]). When none of them could help us, the Casco Bay staff rearranged some things to make it possible for us to drop our pet off so the exotic animals vet could see him when they had time. They were action-oriented, they were patient, they were kind when we had spent twelve plus hours trying to find a vet to help us in a dire situation. Almost NO VET in Maine will see a rabbit anymore, but Casco Bay does. Such a huge relief to know that they're a reliable place that genuinely cares (even when they've never met you before).

Less than an hour before our appointment, I called to cancel and Courtney immediately offered to get me in ASAP, 2 weeks later. We had our appointment today and both Courtney and Joe out front were lovely! (there was a 3rd person that I did not get to interact with, but based on the track record, I'm sure she is a delight as well!!). We were brought in and a nurse did a quick once over with my little girl, Cookie, before Dr. Ring came in. The whole appointment was very efficient but very friendly and well done. They gave my cat a very calm and safe environment in which she only once got feisty (and, I mean, if you were putting things up my butt to check some glands, I might also have some opinions on that so... ya know, fair!) No question I asked was considered stupid or treated less than anyone with years more experience as a cat owner. I was made to feel like I'm giving her a good home and doing a great job taking care of her. I'm extremely pleased with the appointment and the staff. At the end of the day, everything was roughly $230 but I was given an itemized bill at the end and, honestly, the pricing felt very fair. I know my little old lady will be in good hands here.

My family was new to Portland and so worried for our sweet boy Gunner. We had an appointment with Dr. Tippie and to my surprise she had taken much time to read through Gunner's medical file. She was well prepared to meet our sweet boy and provide the best care possible. This means the absolute world to me. Fast forward to today, Dr. Tippie is still my favorite! She has my heart for all my days. I appreciate the way she cares for Gunner, and I'm sure other pets, and I appreciate the way she takes the time to understand and provide the best care as possible. Recently, I especially loved how she called us on a weekend to share with us the results of Gunner's blood work and this reconfirmed the best course of action for his pain management. Dr. Tippie - I appreciate you. I came to you four years ago scared my poor dog was going to die from cancer. But you took the time to understand what he went through, did the proper tests, provided the best care, and here he is today at the fine age of 13 living his best life, cancer free! We appreciate you!

The staff is very friendly and work with your schedule. I have never had a problem scheduling an appointment that fits my schedule, and unlike my personal doctor's office visits, they never leave me waiting long in the exam room. Dr. Mills is my primary, but have no problem with any of the docs at North Deering. They are friendly and get down on the floor with Max when they enter the room. They talk to me, but engage with Max, the real patient. They take time to explain if anything is wrong, weigh out options and provide possible solutions. I never feel played or misled. They are true blue in my book.

When it came time to say goodbye to our dog her technique was flawed and she scared the heck out of my dog. As you can imagine this is a difficult time in the best of circumstances, but her demeanor with the dog made it worse. I loved the ladies out front, but will never go there again as long as Dr. Goodman is there. I highly recommend the 24 hr emergency vet on Warren Ave if you need help for your pets.

My biggest takeaway from this place is that they give you a chance to process what is being said, allow you to ask questions without feeling rushed, and leave with the confidence that your pet was the most important thing to them during your visit. The level of care and commitment they show to pets is amazing. I went through the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a loved cat & they were with me every step of the way. Compassion, determination, and going the extra mile. The staff and techs are also beyond wonderful. The compassion they showed me and my boy as we had to say goodbye, is not something I will forget. Janelle and Sarah not only welcome me warmly on visits but are excited about my pets. I am happy that Stoneledge will be an essential part of my pet family.

There are plenty of good veterinary hospitals out there. This is not one of them…read more There's one nice lady who seldom works the front desk here, I believe her name is Cathy. Everyone else who works at the desk and answers the phone is mis.er.able. I don't know if they're forced to work for cat toys or something, but they are some of the rudest people I've encountered anywhere. One of the veterinarians made our dog fall about 4 feet off a table with no apology. The one hippy-ish guy is nice, but that's it. They almost never answer the phone when we call and while they advertise themselves as being open on Saturdays, good luck with that. Oh, and if you would like to find out if they are open? Don't bother calling, because they won't answer even if they ARE there. Half the times we called on Saturdays (and no one ever answered), someone would be there when we arrived. Other times no one would be there. Very professional. When you work Monday-Friday, this of course becomes a problem when they're not open and so we occasionally have tried to go after work. Well, last night we confirmed they were open until 6:00. Get out of work late in downtown Portland, battle the hell that is Forest Avenue traffic, get stuck as a train comes through. At this point it's a little before 5:50 and we try calling to let them know that we will be there by 6:00 (everything has been ordered, this is a simple pick-up). SURPRISE, no one answers the phone. We finally pull in the parking lot at 5:53 and it appears as if the person leaving in a car is someone who works there. Try the door, and at not even 5:55 they are locked and no one is home. So we rushed, battled the traffic, still arrived on time to find they were closed and then turned around and drove back into downtown Portland; a true wasted trip. I used to work retail and got in trouble if we closed 5 minutes early and that was selling stupid merchandise, this is a vet where people need medications for their animals and they can't be bothered to stay open until the posted time? Or you know, occasionally answer the phone? This was the last straw for us. Unless they can find a way to straighten this place out, I would recommend using almost anyone else.

Had an account with this vet hospital, and put $ in it every month, as I'm on disability, and…read morewanted to make sure there was money there for both my cats, Church and Sketchy, both for their yearly as well as emergencies. Came back from the hospital from an overnight surgery, had a friend watching the cats, left knowing that Sketchy was not feeling well. Came home and he was much worse. Looked like he had a lung infection, most like all he really needed was some antibiotics to deal with it, but he was in bad shape at that point, and needed care right away. This was Friday March 12th. Called the vet, got a guy on the phone that told me they were all booked up until Monday the 15th. I told him I didn't think that Sketch would make it that long. He told me to take him to the emergency clinic. I said that I just got out of surgery, and was right up the street, had no car, and no $, and they charged double, but had $1,200.00 on an account with THEM, and surely they could make a hole for this cat, as bad a shape as he was in. He had the nerve to tell me that if it was that bad to just get him to the emergency clinic, and they would put him down for free... No one I knew had any money at the time, or I would have taken him to another vet, and this poor cat that I had for 14 years died horribly gasping for breath at 5:20 Monday morning the 15th with me holding him and bawling my eyes out. Got a check a couple days later for my $1,200.00 outside the place from the owner of the Vet Hospital, asked him how it felt to know that they let my Sketchy die for no reason then they thought appointments for someones shots were more important, and the guy just looked at me like I was a turd floating in the bowl and turned and walked back into the building and never said a word to me. Never EVER take your fur babies to this place.....
