I never thought that you could "miss" a gym. I learned this the hard way after I moved out of Downtown. WestCa is hands down one of the best gyms in the Bay Area. It was created by people who are serious about working out, for people who are serious about working out. One of the things I didn't realize that I loved so much is how many mirrors are in that place. Mirrors make all the difference so that you can watch your form. In addition to that, their gym has a great style, welcoming vibe, and a very friendly staff. You might walk in and think "hmm, this is smaller than I thought" but the way they organize their equipment and the general layout of the gym makes up for that. I was a newbie in weight training before joining WestCa, curious to these activities but lack confidence because I could only lift those light ones. Failure is a choice but fear is not. I've lifted at several small gyms and many commercial gyms. I tried the free week trial at WestCa and fell in love with it by the second day. This is the best place to lift in The Bay Area, period. Here's why: 1. Gym is always clean, and both the members and staff keep it that way. There's cleaning stations at three points in the gym and it's designed that way to make it easy to clean up your bench or machine after you finished your sets. In addition, the staff are good about cleaning up and also staying out your view of the mirror. I've had too many incidents at 24 when the cleaning guy (who clearly hates his job) getting right in between me and the mirror in the middle of a set of shoulder presses. Not here, the staff always greet you and do their best to make sure the equipment is ready for use. 2. Gym layout is intuitive, efficient, and makes good use of the space. One of the main things that sold me is all the chest equipment is grouped together, leg equipment, shoulder equipment, back equipment are the same. Anything that has multiple uses like the cable cross are in the shared area. It's the best possible layout. So if you're working chest, you don't have to walk from one end of the gym to the other to get from the chest press to the chest fly. The dumbbell area uses adjustable benches so you can hit your incline, decline, or sit 90 at any station. You don't need to wait for someone else to finish. The gym also didn't hesitate to spend on top of the line equipment. No tricep ropes that peel or untwine and no wide grip bars that bend over time. They have Rogue bars, a SSB bar, a Duffalo bar, a trap bar, on top of that they have MAG grips which I love for my back days. The gym is just the right size for getting to the next station you need to work on too, not too big, not to small. Cardio is laid out in the front of the gym with a nice view of 3rd Street. There's a shower in each restroom so you can hit it and get right to work if you're a morning person. 3. The gym culture is very friendly and goal oriented. There's no kids here taking selfies on the bench, no one sitting on equipment waiting to "start" his/her set. There's definitely no ego lifters who load up three plates on the bench just to almost catch it on the neck after only pressing it half an inch. Everyone is in there to get the job done. The best part is, if the equipment you need is in use, everyone is down to let you work in. So you never need to worry about cooling down between say barbell shrugs and arnold presses. 4. Staff are super friendly as well as knowledgeable. Tory and Meaghan are always walking the floor checking in on everyone. By the third time he saw me, Tory greeted me by name and asked how my workouts were going. I respect it when a gym owner/head coach knows every one of his members by name. I felt really welcome in there even if I was only doing a free trial. Damen was super friendly at the front desk and got me set up in no time. He and the rest of the staff also have a smile on their face when everyone is walking in. You definitely feel more productive during your lifts when the gym has a good vibe. 5. It's really just the perfect place to lift and train. They offer personal training too for people who are newer to lifting. I personally came from the powerlifting world, and worked out at many commercial and smaller gyms before my arrival, so I know my way around the weight room. But I see Tory and Meaghan reaching out to all the different types of potential clients and breaking the stereotype of a "bro" gym. I've seen lots of different people with different fitness levels/experience consistently show up there, so clearly, it's a good, welcoming environment. If you want to get in a good boxing session, they have a coach for that as well as two heavy bags next to the TRX harnesses. Lastly, they have a good WiFi connection and give you the password, so you don't eat up your data if you use your Spotify for music when you lift or Netflix it up during cardio. I can't really think of many downsides. One may be that there's a window directly adjacent to the dumbbell area, so on a sunny day, the benches are flooded by sunlight which can be annoying, but it's a very easy fix for the gym. If you work out at night or in the mornings, it's a non issue. They validate parking across the street for two hours, so you might need to pay the difference if your workout trickles two hours. There's no towel service, steam room, or sauna, but if those are your main concerns then I'd contend you're in the gym for the wrong reason. So if you're looking for a new place to lift and get results, and to be in a good community, WestCa is for you. #westcafam read more

I have high standards for a gym. As a woman I want to feel safe and welcome, and that is how I feel at Westca. I joined about a month ago and only regret not joining sooner. My goals are to build strength and physique so this gym has been calling my name! The equipment is well-maintained and clean. I never did much weight lifting before joining but through the challenges they hold and group training, I have learned so much. The owners Meaghan and Tory are so sweet and make you feel like their gym is another home away from home. And this is for people of all different fitness levels, whether you are a fitness competitor or just a regular Joe Shmo like me. There's gyms and then there's WESTCA. When I moved to the Bay Area the first thing I looked for besides a barber was a gym and I instantly felt at home here. I have been been a WESTCA member for a little over 2 years now. And recently have worked with Adam as my nutritional trainer. I can't say enough how thorough Adam is when creating meals and macro target goals for daily meals. I am completely new to dieting and learning what my body should be eating to fuel me through out the day and what I should be avoiding. But Adams program has made it simple for me to understand where my food sources should come from. He also included different recipes for easier meal prepping for the busy weeks. The weekly phone calls have really helped me stay accountable as well and Adam is always supportive when it comes to my fitness and health goals. Adam is a great addition to the entire WESTCA community. The gym itself has hard working members/staff inside and outside the gym. On top of a community that really uplifts one another and is extremely supportive of each other. I love Paulina a lot as my personal trainer She is the best PT so far in my life . At the first mini session, I told her that I easily have low blood sugar problem and feel dizziness when I work out . She is very caring to observe my status during working out and provide me suggestions.She told me if I start to fell dizziness, just tell her .We can stop to have more rest. It's a great gym friendly modest size the issue is leaving the gym. I cancelled my membership a year ago and they continued to charge my card every month even twice a month. I called once they apologized for the mistake. Months later I see transactions from this gym I'm confused I called my bank they never stopped charging me after the first phone call. I called the gym the guy at the front desk said to me "Sometimes we just sign in people without confirming their identity" so they just assumed somebody else was me and allowed them to to walk in and out under my name extremely mad about that. I asked to speak to a manager multiple times same response "They will call you tomorrow" but they never call what a shame. You can't just assume somebody is somebody especially when people are wearing mask and hoodies and etc. If you plan on leaving this gym make sure you check you bank transactions cause they will try to get you. Terrible customer service. They've take hundreds from me so of course I'm super mad and they won't fix it to get my money back. read more

I used to be a very active individual that does many sports and regularly goes to the gym many years ago before I completely stopped due to reasons like college and work. Coming back was definitely a difficult process. I joined bigger gym chains and ended up just wasting money for memberships that I very rarely used. A little over a year ago, my friend invited me to try WestCA and I instantly loved the place and the vibe the people here have. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, most people know each other and even hangout together. Aside from that, you can see and feel everyone's determinations to become better versions of themselves each day. The best gym I have ever attended! I love my Westca family so much!! Meaghan and Tory who are co-owners, are the most humble and genuine people you will meet. When I first signed up back in mid to late 2019, Tory and Meaghan each introduced themselves at separate times when they saw me in their gym and that says a lot about who they are. Right away I began semi-private group training with Meaghan and I loved it (despite puking my guts out after the first session). It had been so long since I worked out at the time but the farther along I went, the stronger and more in shape I became. Whenever I hit a personal milestone whether it was being able to lift more weight or do extra reps, Meaghan was always there to cheer me on and was so proud. As a client, that's how you know that you have the best trainer, one who cares and is ecstatic during those moments. I got into the best shape of my life working out at Westca and having Meaghan as my trainer. Of course, we are currently in a pandemic and my review has been long overdue but I am so looking forward to getting back to work and being pushed by her - towards a better version of myself. I have nothing negative to say about Westca, we are one big family. Yes, many have amazing physiques but that shouldn't intimidate you or make you feel unwelcome at Westca. It is anything but that. You are accepted with open arms and it doesn't matter what your fitness level or background is. We all push one another to be better versions of ourselves. I've been training with Andy since August 2020 during Meaghan's MatLeave (she's the bomb.com also) and he's awesome! He trains all fitness levels in either group/personal sessions throughout the week. His knowledge and expertise helps to push his clients to hit their goals. I had a mix of both types of sessions 4-5days per week and depending on your goals Andy is flexible and will work with you. He will make you WORK for it but it's so worth it. Truly a hidden gem in San Jose. Came here for the first time yesterday and my friend and I were the only ones in there for a solid two hours. It felt like our own private gym. Granted that varies on the time of day but it was such a relief from the crowds of 24 hour fitness. Unique speckled black and white gym floor with gold painted life style and hammer strength equipment. It has a old school and new school feel to it which I really liked. Clean bathroom with a small shower stall. It's not a locker room. Live fit and Westca clothing available for purchase by the front desk for a reasonable price. This gym was created by someone in the fitness industry therefore it will cater to those who compete but is also welcoming to new comers. There was a gentleman doing posing lessons in the front while we were training. I've competed in the past so I appreciate the fitness industry aspect. I'm considering getting a membership here to use on my days off from work just so I have a different atmosphere to train in. I've been going to 24 for years and it's really refreshing to have a solid second place to go. Mind you I live in the east bay. Which means I'm willing to drive 30 minutes to workout here. read more

Gym is located in downtown San Jose and offers 7 days free trial. There are plenty of cardio and weight training equipments. Mostly professional people go there for training. Restroom is clean and has a shower. I wish they had Precor weight training equipments. The staff are friendly and helpful.
