I received the worst haircut of my life at this establishment. I requested a simple low fade with a light trim on the top, which resulted in the barber Myke cutting into my hairline, making the fade uneven, and cutting the hair much shorter than I requested. Additionally, the other barbers in the shop were having gross conversations the entire time. Furthermore, another barber whispered to my friend as we were walking out that I got my hair "F'd up real bad". I moved to Syracuse in the Fall and I've been searching for a barber. Westcott Barber Shop was recommended to me because of how inclusive they are. I've gone to two barbers there and my second experience is one that makes me never want to go back. The first barber was good - he was quick, professional, and actually really good with making it a pleasant sensory experience. The second barber was a struggle for me. I showed up 10 minutes before my appointment time and was ushered to the chair. He asked what I wanted and I told him I wanted a skin fade. Immediately he started getting outwardly frustrated and told me I had made a regular cut appointment and not a skin fade appointment, which is 15 min longer (this was my fault but honestly the site I scheduled through gave no description of the cuts). I showed him a reference picture and he said he could do it. Now, at this point, I would assume that if there wasn't enough time, I would have been consulted about it. I'm amenable and I'm happy to revise what I want because I made a booking mistake. Additionally, we got started on my hair early because I'm always early to my appointments. He rushed and he had a bad attitude the entire time I was in the chair. He was constantly sighing loudly and annoyed, to the point where another barber asked if he was okay. I think I was his last appointment for the day because his response was "I guess I'm not going out anymore," which he clarified later was because his ex was going out too (whatever the reason, at the time I thought it was because of my haircut taking too long). He was erratic in his movements and eventually finished my hair. He suddenly had a huge smile and was super friendly as I paid, and then I left. When I got to my car, my hair was seriously messed up and it wasn't even close to what I wanted. The sides were uneven and one side had more of a sideburn. I had a trip back to where I moved from and set up an emergency session with my previous barber and he was also very surprised by my hair and how bad it was. Overall, I wouldn't come back here and I wouldn't recommend others to go here, just because of this one experience and how terrible it was. I'm sure the other barbers are great but I don't even feel comfortable being in this space again. read more

BE CAREFUL!!!! I called ahead of time to make a rsvp and they said they weren't busy and to just walk in. The wait was only 10 minutes but the barber who attempted to cut my hair was an absolute joke. He lacked any confidence to properly close his scissor shears closed with every clip of the hair. He proceeded to ask me several times what I thought of the back of my hair after only about 1 minute of cutting it like he was done. He then tried trimming around my ears and actually clipped my left ear with his scissors. I then asked if he knew what he was doing, he replied "if you want to leave it here we can leave it here". So I walked out looking like I lost a fight with a lawn mower. The owner of this establishment should have higher standards and not let amateurs be cutting hair for civilians. I have gone there a few times as I live about 40 minutes away and always had quality service. This last time I went for a hair cut & beard trim was one of the best visits. First time there and was fortunate to get myself and 2 boys in without an appointment at 5 PM. I received an outstanding fade by Mark who did a great job edging around my temples and neck too. Next up was my 7-year old son and I was blown away by Mark's work, sheer perfection. My partner's 11-year old also got a cut by Doug just to his liking. The best part is the ambiance! Don't expect a lot of sports talk, as is the norm in most barber shops. Geeky is the order of the day with conversation dominated by comic books, Star Wars, history, physics, space exploration and the like. I believe I've found our new barbershop! Used to be a loyal customer. My only complaint was that on more than one occasion I had an appointment and had to wait 15-20 minutes because they had taken a walk-in customer. Last time I went my barber gave me a bad haircut. Whatever, decided to give them another chance. Called today and was told (rudely) that they do not accept walk-ins. Been going here for a while now and this place is honestly OVERRATED and OVERPRICED for MEDIOCRE haircuts. I recently gave them one more chance and came out disappointed and upset as ever. Everyone here are super cool but alright barbers. But most of them really don't know how to follow instructions. For example, my latest experience i asked for a simple LOW FADE. not a high fade. not a skin fade. not a undercut. A LOW FADE that was not too short on the top (make their life easier i even showed them pictures). Typically barbers would do shave guideline and started fading from there. the barber i recently went to didnt do this and started fading from the TOP of my head then down, not from the bottom of my head to the top. never before had i had a barber do this. then proceeded to shave, not fade, all the hair up to the top of my head. Even worse, the back top of head was cut so near the scalp it looks disconnected. like im wearing a damn wig. looking like damn pineapple. No blending at all. like really. this for 20$. And the fact that ive been going here for around 3 years and have only gotten two, maybe three good haircuts is ridiculous. im sorry that was my final time getting a cut from here read more

I just got my first haircut at this place and am very happy. Doug did a great job cutting my hair and working with me to get the look I wanted. It had been awhile since my last cut and it was kind of a mess, but he cleaned it up and gave me a great looking undercut with a hard part. Now, there are a lot of places where you could go and get a good haircut that looks good, but what I liked about this place is that it's an actual barbershop and not a salon. The atmosphere is relaxed, the guys who own it are friendly and there were several regulars who stopped in while I was there- always a good sign. Lastly, their prices are great- the haircut itself was $15 (I did buy some product that bumped that up a bit). I'll definitely go back. read more

I should also say, that Doug looked at my head and prescribed a haircut that looks good, given my cranial geometry. Also, my wife digs it, and I've received lots of compliments. That never happened to me before. It's a cut that fits my style, and I have an easy time in the morning making it look spiffy without much fuss at all. Super professional place. I have been reluctant to see a barber after my last experience where the barber used a gold-plated razor to scrape Eric Devendorf's haircut into my head. Nope. Nope. Nope. Doug did a fantastic job. I trusted him to do my hair a little differently than I have had it done before and I love it. Even better, the people who have to look at me all day ALSO love it. Went on saturdayBy 2:45 they had stopped taking walk-in's because they didn't have enough barbers to take care of the 14 or so people waiting. Very disappointed. I genuinely wish I could give these guys six (6) stars. After making an appointment three days out and experiencing an issue, I called the place and they told me to come in immediately for a cut. I did, and was immediately seated with Mark for my cut. The place had a friendly and "no nonsense" air to it, and I was pleased to find barbers openly talking with their customers about all sorts of topics. It wasn't long before Mark and I were discussing everything from politics and filmography to automation and psychology. I greatly enjoyed it - meanwhile, Mark has been spending almost a full hour just cutting my hair to match a style I failed to specify meaningfully - he just took my prompts and figured out JUST the right way to painstakingly shave/fade/blend each section to make it all work. I never give much thought to my haircuts. I also rarely rate locations on Yelp. Both of those things changed today. They/Mark were just that good. $18 is a steal for such service, so tip them well if you end up giving them a shot. read more

I love this shop! I live in Baltimore but visit periodically and dread the day I have to get my hair cut somewhere else. The first time I visited I waited a couple of hours but was blown away by the barber banter and the cut Doug did. Definitely make an appointment but it's worth the wait. Their website indicate that they close at 4pm on Saturday. I called their number ahead of time to make sure they still take walk ins and their number had a voicemail saying "today is Saturday, we take walk ins all day" and then hung up on me. So great, it's 3:20pm, my boyfriend can still make it to get a hair cut. We got there at 3:31pm and they said, "sorry, we stop taking walk-in at 3:30pm. We know the website says 4, we need to change that but we go with the sign here [in front of the shop]" This is ridiculous and poor customer service on so many levels. 1. You need to update your website AND be very specific in your voice messages to your customers that you stop taking walk-in at 3:30pm. Or, you can pick up the phone when people call. 2. We made our way here and you turned us away. This is an extremely rude thing to do. I don't care how many great reviews they have had, I will never return to this place. read more
