When I was in college this was the mall to go to so they built a theater and countless chain restaurants around it. Since then, however, they have lost Von Maur, Spencers, Osco, Regis, KB Toys, B Dalton Booksellers, Dave & Barry's, Country Buffet, Sam Goody, Maurices, Brass Buckle, Maid-Rite and a number of local deli's, sports memorabilia & craft shops. All that is left is the library, Pretzelmaker, Eddie Bauer, Younkers, JC Penney, Bath & Body Works & city offices that were flooded out of downtown. I don't know if the rent is "too damn high" or what but this a terrible mall. The top floor is almost abandoned, except for mall walkers. read more

OMG, I can review this wasteland? I didn't think that empty fields with tumble weeds blowing through them made it onto Yelp! This place is the classic example of a DEAD MALL. The only thing that kept this mall alive is that the floods came through in 2008, and city and county government had nowhere to go, but to a surprisingly empty, dead mall out on the edge of town. Uuuuuugggghhhh Brrraaaaiiiinnnnnsssss! Sadly, this place is empty, you wont even find zombies. I have no idea why Yonkers and Chick-Fil-A haven't pulled out. I'd imagine the Chicken shop doesn't leave, because it feeds the city employees who don't want to leave on their lunch breaks. Oh, and another thing, the entire area around this mall is going gonzo nuts with business and new stores and restaurants. This mall should be a dream location. Instead it just sits and rots alive, like a hobo chained to the inside of a boxcar at the end of a long forgotten rail siding. Something strange is going on with this place. Makes me wonder what kind of property management company is running it. There is absolutely no reason this mall should be in such an awful state. This is a horrible mall and a shell of its former self. The mall has lost more stores than i can remember. Management has failed this place so horribly. I don't know I would call this a great mall there's only places in here I will go, Locker room legends and chick-fil-a. This mall has seen better days and would be nice if it picked back up and got some new stores and maybe remodeled a little. On a brighter note the city has been using the old Steve and berry's department store for government places, Iowa dot, property tax etc... read more

Westdale Mall - Shopping Centers Near Me - Cedar Rapids, Iowa

ummmm.... there's really nothing here. It's the deadest mall i've ever seen. Was taking my girlfriend on a CR historical (my childhood) tour and decided to see exactly HOW dead westdale was. It's dead. There was a chik fil EH? and a yonkers and a jc penny's. There was an eddie bauer. there was a claire's boutique. everything else was generic or vacant. It's got about a 75% in-occupancy rate. The library and lots of city service offices have relocated there. booooo...... read more

Three reasons for going to this mall: DMV, JC Penney, and Chic-Fil-A. It's an eyesore inside and out. It's overrun with mall walkers and I'm kind of upset that this mall has stayed standing like this for so long. read more

This place.... I think the only reason why some are still there is because they bring in a LOT of business.. and I mean a LOT... I knew someone who owned suncoast that was there quite a few years back.. and when they left they said that the owners of the mall raised rent too high.. and when the other businesses started leaving that mall they also had the complaints of the rent being changed to an amount that was way to high... I have heard from other people that people HAVE looked in to opening stores there but the owners charge WAY to much for the rent there. I hear now that they are charging the Government an arm and a leg to stay there, but they keep paying it because they have no where else to go.. These owners need to make more reasonable rental prices or close the bitch down and bulldoze the place.. or sell it to someone else.. As is this mall only offers a couple of places worth going to...This place needs love.. it really does and I do not think the owners are gonna give it.. read more
