Then, after booking the Chelsea House, I found it in a tourism book. It was one of two places listed in Falmouth (in that book). I took that as a good sign. The book said that every room had a view of the water. Well, that's not actually true. There is one room that doesn't have a view of the ocean, and that's the Shell Room, namely, my room. But that's ok! Even though we overlooked the back yard (and the neighbor's dumpster), Chelsea House was worthwhile. There were a few weird aspects to the place and a few down sides. Our room was tiny. Super duper tiny. And it was clearly the last one to be remodeled (As in, the other rooms looked much nicer). The tea kettle was rusty (I used it anyway). You order your breakfast the night before. And if you're not down at 8, you're not going to be eating breakfast. I really appreciated that because it meant I was forced to start my day earlier. I definitely got to squeeze more in that way. But, they are a street away from the water and a short block from the beach. They are incredibly close to the bus/train station. So close that when we left, we walked our very heavy luggage to the train station. They are also only a short walk to the center of town, so it's easy to shop and go to dinner, etc. They were very nice. And it was very affordable, considering it was the official start of the season, and most places were booked. I guess with the tiny room with no view (and the weak dollar), it was one time you wouldn't mind paying for what you get!

Plenty of room for two of us, a nice bathroom and plenty of pillows! The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town centre and Gylly Beach Cafe. How wrong I was, the staff are attentive, the large rooms were clean and the Full English breakfast was hot and served within minutes of us ordering it each morning. We had two rooms, a double and a single, both had sea views (although many rooms do not). The gardens were lovely and the rooms had everything you would expect. We did not dine in the hotel as we were visiting family but did enjoy the bar in the evening.

It is popular - the sunday lunch sold out when we were there as it is available between 12-2.30pm but fear not, the excellent Lewsey Lou's is positioned opposite and staff there will call out your receipt number so you can squeeze in a quick pint between ordering and getting your food. I had lunch there one day mid-week. Standard pub food but a good value portion and staff are aware of dietary needs so I had no issues being gluten free. Tasty, well cooked burger (minus bun) and chips and salad on the side was a decent portion that I din't finish it all. My friend had a sausage sandwich was was rated as very tasty and as it was the special was only £5.95 - sausage in ciabatta with onion relish with chips and salad, so again another big portion. Also on the sunday, left over roasties, veggies and meat were on the bar - not enough for complete portions and I would say on the basis of my limited sampling (beef, bit of parsnip and a roastie, that the Sunday lunch would be well worth a booking!). So, I'm not a local and it'll probably be a year before I go back, but I'll be definitely heading back to try more of the menu and just hangout there after a day of boarding :-)

Just off the A38 from Exeter, it was perfect located just a few miles from the hospital It's right next door to a Beefeater restaurant, where the breakfasts are served. Parking can be tight in the evening due to the restaurant. An alternative for food is to nip to the large Sainsbury supermarket just across the road Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were always there with a cheerful greeting every time I walked past reception My room was large with a comfortable bed. I think they're trying to go upmarket a little with a choice of firm pillows on the bed with softer pillows available in the cupboard. Started with some canapés and a steak tartare one was fantastic. My starter was good but not great. The host raved about the scallops, and while they were nice I did not find them exceptional. What I did find exceptional was my main, a rare fillet steak. The beef was wonderful and presentation brilliant. On the down side, I found the service overly formal. Everyone acted as if we were in Paris or Monte Carlo rather than Cornwall overlooking the water (by the way, incredible views). The Michelin star restaurants I most enjoy are the ones were the servers are friendly yet very efficient. Here I felt they were trying to impress. They should let that food do the impressing and aim for a little more fun.
