We really enjoyed a lovely stay in Towan Cottage for Easter. The proprietress is very friendly and made sure we knew where to find anything we needed. Check in and check out were quick and easy, and there is ample parking. Chycarne Farm Cottages reminded me of the wonderful apartments and houses we used to rent in Southern France and Italy when I was a child. Let me briefly summarize: PROS: - Comfortable, modern cottage with high quality furniture and a fireplace that quickly warms up the room in the cold season. Great atmosphere. - Quiet, peaceful surroundings in the Cornish countryside. We loved driving down the narrow, winding roads that are embraced by tall, vibrantly green hedges. Dreamy! - The view! From our cottage we could see the coast and look out towards the Celtic sea. We were very excited about that and hadn't expected that kind of view out here in the countryside. Lovely! - Proximity to attractions. From here you can easily go to the near-exotic coves of the Lizard area (try Kynance Cove: if it was hotter in Cornwall, you could image yourself being in the tropics), and there are a number of historic estates, vineyards, cider presses, etc. in the area. You can also very quickly get to St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall's answer to France's renowned Mont St. Michel. Take a boat there, or walk across the cobblestone pathway that emerges from the sea at low tide, and see this fabulous castle. CONS: - Bring your own towels, none are provided - There were no basic kitchen things like oil, tea, spices, or even salt. That's a problem for a four day stay. I'm not going to buy all those things just for the weekend, yet I can't even prepare a simple breakfast without them, so that makes the kitchen kind of useless. We ran out of toilet paper on Sunday night too, and no gas station or shops nearby. Maybe those kitchen items will appear later in the season as other guests leave them behind? I must say this is the first time I've ever stayed in a self-catered place that did not provide them. - Buying cards from a machine for the electricity meter. I just don't get this. Having lived in America for a few years and seeing how even the cheapest places include utilities, towels, etc., this makes no sense. For a mere £2 extra per day you can provide all of these things (and still make a little extra money), and you will get way more customers. Who wants to learn how to use these devices, and check meters, and buy cards, and pack towels, and purchase oil and salt, when they're supposed to be on vacation?? I just don't get why Europeans have to nickel and dime you on every little thing. Seems like a terrible business policy. Had we not been looking for something last-minute, I, personally, would not normally book places with these kinds of policies. Fortunately the beautiful, modern cottage and welcome proprietress made up for that. And I know many vacationers are used to these policies and don't mind. - There's WiFi, but we never got it to work on any of our four devices. Since my husband's an I.T. Manager and does things like fixing internet connections for a living, I'm guessing the problem was not on our side. Fortunately we were too busy doing other things to be bothered much, and there was some 3G at the windows. In short: We really loved our stay at Chycarne Farms. We were so lucky to find such a beautiful, comfortable and welcoming cottage in the gorgeous West Country. We highly recommend Chycarne Farms to others, just as long as they're aware of these little details like towels, salt, electricity cards. This would be a fantastic place to bring children as well. Plenty to do in the countryside, and ample space for them to play outside.

The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily, the towels were fluffy and soft.we had a short stay there in 2007. they offer B&B andB&BEM the choice is yours, all meals we haqd was top quality. the people who owned it were lovely. the only downside isthe area can be busy with young people. I…read morethink I was lucky I was there in the off season as the place has a distinct bad Ibiza flavor to it, i.e. not fun partying Ibiza so much as the morning after. What's great is that they offer good deals during the off season for hard-core surfer types and so I spent a few days here reacquainting myself with the ocean; they offer discounts to the surf school if you're staying at one of the Reef lodges. Word to the wise: it might be a good idea not to surf in October. I managed to get a dorm room to myself, which was nice as I could see how it would have been painfully cramped for four people. The rooms are at least en-suite, a major bonus in my book. They're also equipped with not-so-fancy flat screen TVs, though they're so awkwardly positioned that I suspect only two of four people could actually view it if they were in bed (which, incidentally, is the only place you can be in the room besides the bathroom). They have some interesting house rules though, including no food/drink in the rooms and they take a 30GBP deposit when you arrive to ensure that you don't break stuff or bring in unwelcome guests. Not a bad place, overall, though I think I'd tend to stay away during the high season unless I was appropriately tipsy.

It is lovely inside and very romantic and perfect for two people. There is a big kitchen which has everything you could need, and they also leave a pint of fresh milk in the fridge which is a really kind gesture. There is a huge shower (no bath) and towels are supplied. Also a TV with Sky and free wifi. I would only recommend a stay here if you have a car because there isn't anything nearby, and if you plan to cook here then it's best to stop off at a supermarket in Falmouth or the other main towns. I enjoyed my stay here and loved how peaceful it was at night. My only complaint (and I am fussy...) is that the pillows were way to soft to sleep on. I normally bring my own (yup - a little bit odd!) but forgot this time and it did have a impact on how well I slept.

The hotel is old and classic, but modernized enough to be thoroughly comfortable. We got a room facing the pitch and putt out front, complete with double bed and built in bunks through a travel website for the last weekend in August. The room was large and well-appointed with comfortable beds and crisp linens. The sink taps were separate for hot and cold, and the shower either ran borderline-burning hot or cold. There was very little air flow in the room unless the window was open. The hotel was classically decorated. I loved the "library" on the 1st floor with its book wallpaper, LEGO model of the hotel, and modern dog lounger. There's a large double stair case, with seating at each level, much needed since the elevator isn't terribly fast. The lounge area, which we were told used to be the ballroom, had a seating area at each window to enjoy the views. There was a patio outside with a glass windbreak for the same purpose. There's a spa area downstairs, and there's a booklet full of treatments available. We didn't try to book any, but we did enjoy the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and aromatherapy showers. While in the sauna, another guest informed us that they were booked for 48 hours solid anyway. Just having access to the aromatherapy showers was a lovely treat after a day of hiking in the coastal air. We ate our evening meals in the lounge area, not having seating at the Terrace (the casual restaurant), not having brought proper dress for the formal dining room, and enjoying the comfy chairs and couches. The full Terrace menu was available. The first night we quite enjoyed the mussels, rocket salad, fresh herbed mozzarella balls, the soup of the day, and the 5 Super Food salad (which changes daily, but always features 5 super foods, so you get the key nutrients in one sitting). Everything was tasty, especially that salad. The second evening, we split the vegetarian platter and the small version of the super food salad. We were quite full the second evening from enjoying cheese and crackers (which we bought at the Sainsbury's in town) while watching the sunset from one of the brick alcoves built into the seaside hill below the hotel. There about 2 dozen alcoves of brick or stone built along the side facing the beach or the coast, though only a couple had chairs. I would think they would've been quite crowded at a different point in the season, since they afforded such lovely views and provided just enough a windbreak. They're incredibly dog friendly and kid friendly. There were dogs and kids running around everywhere the whole weekend. Many folks brought their dogs and kids into the lounge area while they dined. Obviously, you go for the views, but the hotel was a lovely enough experience on its own to make it worth the trip.

However, the shower cannot keep one temperature - complaints among three rooms that my family members were in. That is ridiculous - its 2012 and we are in a developed country. At midnight the alarm on my clock went off. Again, the room maid should be checking that during every cleaning between guests to make sure that doesn't happen. I asked someone to come up in fix it. They sent someone up who hadn't touched one before and was new. After three or four minutes I asked him if he knew what he was doing and he said he didn't ......... I asked him to leave and just unplugged it. My cousin had her wedding here and it went perfectly. I would give it five stars on that.

The experience starts when you walk in and are greeted by the exceedingly fabulous staff (all of them from the check in crew to bartender, wait staff, cleaning staff etc. are ridiculously good) who start taking care of you the moment you step foot through the doors to when you leave. Case in point : we got there sooner than the check in time so had to wait for the room to be readied. We were seated in the guest area which by the way is just the perfect decor to complement the fabulous view of Carbis Bay and offered tea. In the conversation we happened to mention that the spousal unit was vegan...and magically all the hotel staff, even people we had not seen seemed to know about it and importantly remember it when we ordered any food or snacks and made attempts to make sure she had something vegan to consume. The room was spare yet well appointed and lacking for nothing and had a great view of the garden. Morning breakfast is sumptuous with fresh fruit, a killer home made granola, hot breakfast made to order, juices, coffee and tea. Impeccable service is the motto and when your day starts like this, how can it even dare to get bad? The classic English breakfast takes the interpretation of perfectly poached eggs, beautiful toast, charred baby tomatoes on the vine, a grilled portobello, a bit of grilled goat cheese. Of course with the crazy good service, someone had bothered to go and get vegan sausage for my wife which had her swooning. Dinner one night had them making Moroccan veggies for the wife and I had a carpaccio appetizer with a fish for dinner. Everything was perfectly cooked, served and consumed! The entire stay in these altogether pleasant surroundings, with friendly and attentive service capped a perfect holiday. If we win the lotto...we are taking up semi permanent residence there!
