I saw a big line of ants walking up the outside of our house in a straight line, and then that line disappeared into our siding without any ants coming out. I surmised we had about 86234876 APM (ants per minute) moving into this house without paying rent. Screw that. The war is ON. I filled out Western Pest's little online request form, and the next day a cheerful gal called to schedule a free inspection. John The Inspector Guy came out and took a look around and said, "Yep, you've got ants. But you've also got a couple mice in the ceiling. Wanna see some mouuuuse pooooop?" We snickered like 5th graders. He had his scheduler chick call me back and schedule a time for the bug/mouse guy to come to the house and Make It All Go Away. And that day was today. Tom The Bug And Mouse Guy just left now, and he was friendly, courteous, professional and a fellow music geek (Zappa fans unite!). I didn't feel weird having this random person in my house. He was happy to answer my silly critter questions. A nice thing about Western Pest: They try not to poison the mice, because then you have rotting mice in your attic/walls. (You will notice that Yankee Candle doesn't make a scent called Festering Rodent, as it is not a scent people actively seek out.) Instead, they set traps and then come out and clean said traps so they can track the progress. They'll only use poison as a last resort, so that's cool. Hire them. They don't suck, they're super-friendly, and they won't break the bank. read more

We do not have services with Western Pest and had a technician walk all around our property, even going as far as letting himself into our back gate, without permission. Pretty scary to have a strange man trespassing all over our property and so close to our house. By the time I got outside and confronted him he mentioned that the previous home owner had used their services. As he knew there was a new home owner, he should not have trespassed on our property. We are sufficiently creeped out and will call the cops if he comes by "for service" again. read more

"Love" Western Pest Western Pest is like the Mercedes Benz of pest control and surprisingly installation as well. There is no question about it they are professional and well worth it compared to all the fly by night companies that are out there. I was having issues with a house in Wilmington and talked to many other companies for both services. The house was very old, had termites and literally no insulation in it. Greg, came out and was a professional making sure all my concerns were taken care of. Termites gone, house is warm again and heating bill dropped drastically. They blew insulation through the entire attic to ensure it was more than at the proper levels. Thank you Western for taking care of all my concerns both inside and out.....it is been more than worth it working with their team of professionals. top notch....friendly,fast,professional,effective murderous bug destroyers. the tech rapidly removed the nest of evil bald faced hornets. the most aggressive species of hornet in this hemisphere. i would have paid ANYTHING. but they didn't break the bank. and they came the same day i called. i'm highly allergic to these things and they had almost killed me three days prior to my calling western pest. so i needed them here quick(i had to recover from the bite i got before i could even walk around to show someone the nest). and he took the dead nest with him. something none of the other exterminators i called first would agree to do. he also did a free termite inspection while he was here(my neighbor gets them) and found none. the tech himself was really a genuinely nice guy with a great sense of humor. but more importantly, he knew his business, and did it well. i would use them again and recomend them enthusiastically. read more

My experiences with Western were vastly different. My condo has a contract with them so I had hoped when I discovered a mouse in my kitchen, they would respond quickly. I saw the mouse on Saturday night, called Western on Monday to set up an appointment for Tuesday. The woman who answered the phone said the guy would come after 2pm on Wednesday which is what I requested. (I had asked my neighbor, who is retired to let him in.) He did not show up. I called the office the next day to find out why not. She did not know, did not apologize and said he would be out on Thursday. He left a piece of paper advising me that activity may increase. I called the office again to see if the boxes outside of the building are still in working order as the goal is for the mice to not get in rather than to do away with them when they do get in. She then started asking me if I was a tenant. I said no, I'm an owner and yes, I'm authorized to request this service. I told her I would like a call from the technician. This was last week. I've heard from no one. I will be calling around to see if I might be able to find a company who will be more responsive. read more
