My mother moved into Vineyards in April of 2021. July of 2025 the property was purchased by new…read moreowners. The downward spiral began with firing the activity director and office staff. Next they minimized care staff. Many times there is only 1 staff in the building. We observed the building with absolutely no staff for periods of time. The residents can easily walk out the front door, there is no lock on any door nor the gate. There are virtually no activities, no outings. The (often) Lone 1 staff person cooks, clean,s pass medications, assists with adls as needed, monitors the door, answers the phone, does resident laundry, and all of the other things. Do not bring your family member here. They will not be well cared for.

I was trying to find assisted living for my 52 y/o mentally disabled sister, from 1500 miles away…read more The Mesa County Ombudsman told us that Jill and Angela, the Comfort Care owners, are MOTHER AND DAUGHTER. She also gave me Jill's cell phone number, as well as cell phone numbers for other facility owners. The Ombudsman treated this information like it was common place. In a call with Comfort Care/Angela, we mentioned something about a mother/daughter team. They did NOT like it that we knew that fact. I used the phone number the ombudsman gave me to call the owner one time on her cell phone between 5 & 6 PM, as I had time-sensitive information to share that my sister wanted to accept the room - so it seemed appropriate/critical to call. (It was the only time I called either cell phone number). Jill didn't answer, but complained about my call to my sister's case manger and to the ombudsman, AND to my sister's doctor's office. ? At first, they said they had availability for my sister. Then they didn't. That was the first time around. Then they came back and said they opened up a private pay room as a Medicaid room, and offered it to my sister. We made all of the plans, hired movers, etc. Then less than 2 days before the movers were coming and all help was scheduled, they literally yanked it out from under my sister and said "No". During the decision phase of where my sister would live, I asked Comfort Care about how many residents they have, and what the age range was, to learn if there were residents closer to my sister's age. They did not like that question! Rather than telling me that they thought it was an inappropriate question, they seemed to whine to everybody in town about it. Some other assisted living facilities have FAQ's online that answer your questions before you even have to ask. Comfort Care barely even has a web site, and instead of being happy that a resident has a strong advocate, their attitude was: 'you're a pain in the ass!' They stipulated to the County sponsored case manager that they would only work with him and my sister, and not with our family. Comfort Care gave my sister critical information about the day she HAD to move in, and that $58 rent would be due that day. (My sister has no money). My sister never shared that information with us. And Comfort Care didn't share it with the case manager to relay to us, so we didn't know about it. They gave critical information to a mentally disabled person, and they were surprised when it didn't all come together. They set her up to fail, and she did. Why would a 52 year old need assisted living and be eligible for a long-term Medicaid waiver if she didn't have mental handicaps? And if she has mental handicaps, why would you entrust her with information that was critical to planning a successful move? When we finally found out about the $58 due, I asked the case manager if he knew if Comfort Care would take a credit card for the money due the next day, since I live out of state and it was the quickest way to get it there. I guess they flipped out over that question. They vented to the case worker about how mad they were, and to the ombudsman, etc. Well then my response would be: just tell me and I'll find another means to get the money there promptly. As it was, Jill said that they didn't want someone like my sister living in their place, and they pulled the rug out from under us 2 days before the move. Really, it wasn't that they didn't want someone like my sister, it was that they didn't want anyone with a strong advocate like me. Any question ever asked, they flipped out over it, but never to me in a professional, civil conversation; it was always emphatically, rudely shared with someone else as a complaint. I did nothing wrong except try to advocate for my sister to find a place that would be a good fit. Subsequently though, I'm glad for the way it worked out because she's in a place now with staff who truly advocate for her. The Comfort Care owners were very unprofessional, very fickle, and extremely cold-hearted.
