There are lots of roads through the cemetery and places where you can stop and walk. It's really beautiful with all of the old trees. I only go in here to take pictures to put online for people doing the genealogical research. I love Cemeteries and this is a really nice one.

A place to…read morerest The Greenwood Cemetery was established in 1858, which means it is an old graveyard but certainly not a really ancient cemetery by New England standards. Many of the graves do date back well over a hundred years but the cemetery is still accepting new arrivals. A very nice combination of extremely dated and worn graves and monuments combined with nice new and shiny ones. Many of the headstones are very cool and unique. Some huge obelisks and tombs right next to very simple crosses that are now impossible to read. All kinds of very personal and distinctive ways of remembering people now gone from this world. A very peaceful place that is quiet, scenic and at the same time historical. A relaxing place to visit a loved one now departed or to just wander around the many old graves and wonder about the people now at rest.

It is located north of downtown, bounded by North Main Street, Branch Avenue, the Moshassuck River, and Cemetery Street. Its main entrance is at the junction of Branch and North Main. The burial ground is one of the larger municipal cemeteries in Southern New England, and it accepts 220 to 225 burials per year. Many historical figures are buried here like many of the Brown brothers who founded Brown University and Stephen Hawkins, who signed the Declaration of Independence. I have been to this peaceful area for walks and sometimes to ride my bike in the peacefulness of the surroundings....there are some areas that are in disrepair and neglect, some other ones seem a bit better kept.

The Robbins Cemetery is an interesting graveyard that is primarily from the 1800s. I found some…read moregraves that were from the early 1900s but nothing going back to the 18th century. There is an older and perhaps larger cemetery not too far from here. Most of the graves are pretty modest with some exceptions. I did see a couple of fairly tall obelisks but considering how obelisks were in fashion around the mid 19th century, I was surprised I didn't see more. Perhaps they were just too expensive for the people of the time. There were some shorter and very massive memorials but most of the stones were small although with some nice carvings on them. One strange and poignant thing I noticed was that there were two small gravestones with the name Francis L. James. Both were daughters of Clark and Mary James and both were four years old when they died but one died in 1849 and the other in 1854. Apparently the parents gave their second daughter the exact same name as the first daughter that died young. Unfortunately the second girl didn't live any longer than her unfortunately sister. Robbins isn't a very old cemetery but is certainly is interesting. Lots of variety in the gravestones with many of them very well preserved. A nice place for a little stroll and glimpse into the past that will never return.

A man named…read morePatrick St Patrick cemetery is a graveyard that dates to the mid 19th century. Not old by the standards of most New England cemeteries but it does have an interesting combination of very simple and plain gravestones combined with some newer and unique ones. There are some of the popular 19th obelisks but no really massive ones. Most of the memorials are of the smaller and more modest kind. The graveyard is in excellent condition and it is obvious that many of the grave sites are still visited and well taken care of. The name of the cemetery is somewhat interesting. Most people assume that it is named after the famous St Patrick that was kidnapped from Scotland and became famous in Ireland. Who went around preaching the gospel and ended up writing a totally incomprehensible little book that has been the subject of much controversy over the years. But local legend has that the graveyard was actually named for a different Patrick. Patrick Lenihan was the founder of the parish and actually bought the land and established the cemetery and was so loved by the people of the church that many people choose to believe that they named the cemetery in his honor. Unfortunately Patrick lived only until the age of 32 was buried in his cemetery in 1857. Perhaps the truth will never be known but it doesn't really matter. No matter which Patrick the graveyard was really named after it remains a lovely, thoughtful and very peaceful place

It was the Jewish organization established in 1906 by Chesed Shel Emes. It is also known as Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Warwick #11. As I said, crowded but there is enough room to drive through. Most of the roadways are smooth though there is only enough space for one vehicle in each direction. The cemetery is the final resting place for jazz musician Lew Sherwood (1903-1971). was the featured vocalist with Eddy Duchin & His Orchestra during the band's greatest years, from 1933 to 1941, and was the band's primary trumpet soloist and one of its musical arrangers. There is a large polished granite Memorial wall and annual Memorial Day ceremony is held here at which the names of those Veterans who died during the prior year are unveiled. A very crowded…read moreneighborhood Lincoln Park is a Hebrew cemetery that is still open for new arrivals. The first thing that struck me was how crowded certain areas were. I've seen very old graveyards where the gravestones were placed close together but I don't ever think I've seen one quite this packed. Since I haven't been to many Hebrew Cemeteries I don't know if this is a common practice or unique to this particular graveyard. Others areas were very open which made quite a contrast. The cemetery is lovely and has some unique and very beautiful memorials. Lots of stones that were carved to resemble tree stumps and some very oddly shaped gravestones. The Hebrew practice of placing small stones on the gravesites out of respect was also very prevalent and added a very poignant and personal touch to this beautiful cemetery. A truly wonderful and fascinating cemetery that is a very lovely and reflective reminder of those that have lived before us and have now moved on.

The Dougherty brothers' funeral home has been taking care of area families for generations. The original owners passed, and the new owner Tim Plante kept their name and even photos of them in the building in their honor. This only is the start of the goodness of this man. I appreciate people that take the time to honor others. From the moment you call to render their services, you are treated kindly. We were there recently for the passing of our matriarch, and how I was dreading it. Jim made the whole planning of the funeral effortless and happy. Happy? How could we be happy during such a time? Because he diverted our attention from our own grief with personal stories and information. Something I was dreading became one of the easier tasks we had to do. Beware any information you provide them with!…read more I received an unsolicited survey 19 question questionnaire addressed to my address (via family surname), contained in an envelope with the return address of Daugherty Brothers Funeral Home in Plainfield, CT. This questionnaire contained invasive questions including the recipient's age, spouse's age, employment/veteran/retirement status, life insurance information and estate planning beneficiary information, fiduciary appointments, recipient's address, telephone number and email address, and...the recipient's plans, if any, for final funeral arrangements for themselves and other family members and how much money the respondent might/would spend for a funeral. A prepaid postage envelope was enclosed for return of the completed questionnaire, however the address on that envelope was not that of the Daugherty Brothers, but rather a data mining and information collection company located in Portland Oregon called "Funeral Home Information Center". The questionnaire and envelope are clearly marked with some type of barcode and identifying ID number assigned to the recipient "Family." In small print at the end of the survey was "This survey is part of a general distribution" which attempted, it seemed, to mitigate the impact of receipt by a family who was in the midst of a recent bereavement, however, it might also serve as a disclaimer as to the true, underlying and more devious purpose of the survey. What treasure trove of information to the data scavengers hovering around us every day! - all unwittingly provided by unsuspecting members of the public and cleverly, but deceptively, proffered to them by a local merchant under the mantra of "providing sensitive, caring and professional help when people are in need"!! I have never had any prior contact with Daugherty Brothers and I resent being the target of a data mining operation; clearly this is a tool utilized by merchants such as this Daugherty Brothers and touted by data mining companies as a win/win for both the merchant who seeks marketing/advertising, customer leads with more visibility, and..... also, to the data/information collectors who then rent/sell/share all the data collected, coralated and curated to ... well, who knows? Scammers? More marketing and advertising companies? Junk mailers? Political organizations? Charities? The end user is unknown, but what is known is that information is worth lots of money. And Daugherty Brothers has assisted in this endeavor. What I resent is that a specialized industry such as funerary providers, normally highly sensitive to the desire for the privacy, state of fragility, and deep emotions of potential customers should avail themselves of unabashed mercenary methods for getting "leads" to further market their services. In my future need for funeral/undertaker services, I shall not be considering Daugherty Brothers.
