First time we visited was this past summer and I really connected to the way that Pastor Jay spoke. One thing became evident to me, though churches across this country spoke regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and yet not a word was said that following Sunday morning at church. Since then we've picked up other little tidbits in which direction this church tends to lean politically, which we have found to off putting and ultimately after today's service we have decided we just do not belong here. read more

My mother currently goes here and really liked it. She's been here since the start of 2018. A former neighbor of mine goes here too and is now a worker for this church. My former boss and a coworker came here for a short while but moved to another church in Los Altos. A few friends from my community college and HS church went here but are unsure of their actual whereabouts now. Westgate church is a really diverse church that has very lively Sunday worships. She likes how the worship has really good music. I am surprised how this place is not even bothered by a pandemic. Before the pandemic this place was always full of people on a Sunday for both services. Everyone I meet is very friendly and nice. My mother likes the way one of the pastors speaks here. He is such a happy guy that likes to make the congregation laugh. Pastor Steve is also very caring towards the disadvantaged as well. I am not sure where he's from in Texas but really brings back memories of my trip to HTX. Also want to give a shout out to Pastor Dave T. Never once would I see someone so sweet and strong in a church. When I visit with my mother, his sermons are very informative and easy to relate to just like at my church. Last shoutout goes to the people who organize a countywide collaborative called "Beautiful day" I want to do it again with you guys. Drawback: I would appreciate it there are more life groups close to where I live with my mum. read more

My husband and I have been attending WestGate for 6 years, and slowly have found our place. It feels large when you first start going, and you can be totally anonymous, but then you realize that getting to know people and being connected is how to make it a church family, otherwise you may never see the same people twice. He and I each tested a few volunteering spots and found our niches. We joined a LifeGroup (small groups that get together each week during the school year to go deeper and do stuff together) which stopped after a year, and then we joined another and love it (you are encouraged to test a few out to find which you like best.) When we started 6 years ago, we were new to church, and we have learned so much and grown in our faith. WestGate is bible based, which means we are pointed to scripture and the bible is the place to go for answers. They are very upfront about what they believe; attend a Discover class to learn more. This place is real, and makes sense. Many pastors, all awesome, one lead pastor who preaches 60% of the time or so. We watch online when we are out of town for a weekend, but then I really miss attending in person ... the free coffee and donuts (feel free to take coffee in to the service with you), and the worship music settles my soul, gets me focused and the distractions of the day disappear, and I am prepared for the message. For more value-added, there are social events, BBQs, classes, children's programs, young adult programs... The church family gives manpower and resources to the local community, and globally as well. I love love love WestGate. It's my home. I hope you try it out. read more

We went to this church for years while living in Cali. We met a lot of good friends and the members who volunteered there seemed very welcoming and genuine. con: The lead pastor however did not have , or display a great knowledge of the Bible. Many services he would brag about his money, big home. Vehicles and clothes. Church service should not be about this. During our time they had members vote on changes they were considering/not considering to the church. There were two questions , but they required you to vote all yes or all no. There wasn't a way to consider each individually. I believe this was done as a plot to get the pastors wife in a lead pastor role. I disagree with how they went about this. For me Church needs to the about the Bible. The truth, not a twisted version of the pastors own opinion. So for that reason I would definitely look to a more whole Bible based church. read more

Pastor said the words "deaf and mute"...the ASL interpreters got up and left. It is an offensive term to call deaf people. Please educate yourself about deaf culture and community before commenting such thing. Now there were no access to communication for the deaf the remaining time. Very very disappointed. Where is the respect for the deaf? When will any of you start advocating for the deaf? It's 2022! Deaf people are not broken. Wake up people! God is love! Westgate Church is where I'd like to call home when I'm in the bay area. On a good streak of no traveling, you will likely find me here on Sundays running late through the doors. As someone else had mentioned, the regular teaching pastor here, Pastor Steve is truly a man of God with passion, energy and love that can only be from living and loving the Lord. I thoroughly enjoy his messages and he definitely brings it down to earth many of the concepts that are difficult to understand biblically. I love the worship band and they really do put on powerful worship through music as well as leading the congregation in and out of service. One of my favorite parts about Westgate is how many talented staffers they have. They are always putting on creative videos and sending out their messages in creative manners. All of their videos are so professional looking and yet delivers the meaning in such an impactful way. They are also very good about reaching out to the community and I hope to find time to go on a compassion immersion trip soon. I am using a lot of words in this review that don't exist. Thank God there is no spell checker :) I love Westgate. It's a worthwhile visit. read more

My wife and I and children have attended a number of churches in the Bay Area before arriving at WGC two years ago. These have been-- *A small Lutheran church (graying/diminishing congregation, gospel of good works and being a nice person, and very little Biblical context. Unfortunately, dying on the vine.). *PBCC (wonderful teaching and music but sermons were very difficult for a non-native English speaker to understand; also, harder than average to break in to their community circles; finally, a bias more toward study and socializing than action in the Silicon Valley community where there are many targets for compassionate acts.). *A small Bible Church in Sunnyvale (great sermons, great work ethic, but music performers had trouble hitting their notes and music was hugely too loud; we could take it no more). *Venture Church Los Gatos (Famous head pastor and a very top-down org. Little interest in setting up livestreaming and social media, and zero interest in establishing satellite churches for people with long drives. "If David could get to church early, you can too!" Great teaching but sermons began to repeat after a couple of years. Also, the church had unusual trouble retaining associate pastors, some of whom were very good). Finally we found the right one! At WGC, you're in the army now, and it is God's Army, and you are learning, you are loving, and you are serving humanity with labor and tithes. The sermons are funny, great, relevant, and true to God's word. The pastors are real, honest, and genuinely humble people, and the community is the best I have met so far--very loving, warm, and welcoming. Finally, we are home. : - ) Check out Beautiful Day (founded by the same people although you will never hear them take credit for it). Totally awesome, totally worth it! My husband and I wanted to find a church where challenging ideas and questions were open for discussion (politics, theology, serving others...etc.). It has been little over a year since we attended this church and honestly, we are so grateful that we found our place here. The church has great children's program along with amazing opportunities to be connected instantly. Yes, it is a big church, but WestGate does a great job in reaching out and putting together programs to ensure that every individual feels challenged to grow. We are also expecting a baby soon and super excited as WestGate has one of the best children's program and family center ministries. The church is active in serving the community and the world and also greatly embraces the broken - We love that about WestGate! Not to mention... Worship is encouraging and the songs that they play remind me to keep going throughout the week. The sermons are easy to understand, but doesn't mean it is simple and diluted. I attended a Westgate Church service yesterday for the first time. I had been curious about the church for quite a while because I'm looking for a Christian church and because it's close to my home. The setting is very nice and the live music is very moving and absolutely gorgeous. The acoustics in the room are also very good-- somebody obviously went to a lot of trouble to make sure the room had proper acoustic treatment and I thought the sound was wonderful. The reason I only gave this church 2 stars, though, is because the Pastor, during his sermon, referred to Jesus as "dude" while telling a Biblical story. Jesus is the king of kings and our Lord and Savior, not "dude." I thought the use of that word when referring to Jesus was highly disrespectful. Jesus deserves the greatest respect we can give. Also, the pastor was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt. I didn't expect him to be dressed in a suit and tie but since he's one of the leaders of the church, it's my opinion that he should have dressed more appropriately for the sermon, instead of being dressed like he was about to mow his lawn. My guess is that the pastor meant no disrespect in either case, but as a leader of a church, I think he should have been more conscious of the verbiage he used when referring to the Lord, and show the congregation a little more respect by dressing more appropriately. So, at this point, I'm shying away from going back to the church, as much as I'm going to miss the music. read more

Wow! I visited for the first time on a Sunday morning for their 9:30am service and was blown away by how large and multicultural the church was. The worship team was very skilled and the sermon by David Kim (WestGate Church Sunnyvale Pastor) was biblically based, relatable, and easy to follow. I also spoke with a few staff members after the service to find out more information about the church. While church is usually a place where you expect to find hospitality, it's a good reminder not to take that for granted, so I appreciated talking to people who were friendly and welcoming. I'm excited to check out their College + Young Adult Ministry soon, and I hope to update this review later on! If you are currently looking for a church or in the midst of church-hopping, I highly recommend checking out WestGate Church Saratoga! My wife and I attended a service at Westgate 7 years ago and immediately realized this was a great place. We were greeted warmly by fun (and normal) people. I actually ended up becoming good friends with the first person who welcomed us. He noticed from my shirt logo that I ride mountain bikes and he told me about their great mountain bike club and invited me on a ride. Thanks Scot!! The service was unbelievable. It was led by Tom Randall who is a missionary in the Philippines and runs an orphanage there. His stories were heartwarming and extremely entertaining. My wife and I were blown away and agreed this was likely going to be the right church for us. The next week, we sat down, excited to hear Tom's message and we realized he wasn't there. Instead it was some bald guy with a goatee??!!! We were totally bummed... For about 5 seconds :-). It turns out that Tom was a guest the previous week and the guy with the goatee was the main pastor, Steve Clifford. Steve, it turns out, was just as awesome. He is a down to Earth guy who shares messages right from his heart. He's very funny and a very "normal" guy who faces the same challenges I do and he's brave enough to share them. His sermons are straight forward and practical with no BS. We leave Westgate motivated to go out and do God's work (helping others in need) and can't wait until the next time. They really focus on giving outside the church walls, whether it be locally with their Beautiful day program, or internationally with their many mission trip opportunities. We did our first mission trip through Westgate as a family and are now addicted and go on them whenever we can. I can't stress enough how "real" and genuine the congregation and staff are. They are warm and honest and often are the first to admit they are just as broken as everyone else and hope that by sharing their stories they can help others in the same situations. If you are looking for a church with an awesome message that walks the walk and isn't afraid to be very authentic then this is the place for you. Oh , also, the music is incredible!!! They have very talented musicians and the worship music will get your blood pumping. I hope this helps you and I hope to see you someday at Westgate. If you see me, come say hi!! My wife and I have been coming to Westgate for six years and we love the teaching and close-knit group of friends we've made here. Sermons are typically connected in multi-part series, all based on direct scriptures and Bible references. The "series" approach is great because messages tie in to each other and build week to week. The worship atmosphere is lively and inviting and the church gets bonus points for having VERY talented singers and musicians. I don't have kids but I know the parents appreciate the daycare services onsite as well. The free coffee and donut holes are legendarily famous, too. The other thing I love about Westgate is its constant involvement in the community through service projects and missions trips abroad. I can't imagine a more holistic approach to carrying out what God's church is supposed to be. Add the focus on strengthening each other through small group meetings (at homes or on campus) during the week and I swear Westgate has it covered in terms of what I look for in a church. I attended a few times this summer and since then. They are sort of trendy and did the "Sex from the Stage" this summer by discussing the Songs of Solomon and going into the details of sexuality and the Bible. I was amazed when the Pastor admitted he was not a virgin when he got married, but then made the off hand remark that "the single people should just line up and he would marry them." Pretty insensitive to the singles in the crowd (me included). But then I don't know many successful church single groups that are not composed of the walking wounded and the terminally dis functional. Other than the coffee before the service (nutty french roast blend) I could not find a reason to return. Even after attending a few times I found it a a bit stiff, cold and awkward to keep going back. I found those who had little white tags tended to be more friendly with other white tag people vs. us non tag people. Sort of the "brown vs. blue eyes" syndrome. Was thinking of making a counterfeit white tag to see if people would treat me in a more friendly manner. read more

I used to live close to this church for a couple of years but never checked it out. I finally went a few weeks ago and I must say, I really enjoyed the experience. I am currently looking for a home church and so far I feel this may be the one. My decision on making a Church my home church isn't based on the free coffee or that they allow you to wear jeans, shorts or whatever you want to wear.. I chose my home church base on the message of the pastor who is giving it and the hearts of the people who attend the church. I want to hear the real and true words of Christ. I want to connect to Christ through worship. I want to feel in my heart that I am at the right place of worship when I enter the grounds of the church. I plan on attending again and if my heart feels at home, I will commit to Westgate as being my home church. read more

An Athiest rating a church may sound unfair but wait... Our agency called the office manager about renting space for a parenting class. He asked if we were a non-profit (we are not). He asked if we would be charging (we are ...enough to cover expenses). The manager treated me like I was a criminal and said he WOULD NOT rent to us.????? I actually felt dirty after that. Geesh!!! Nobody goes into human service to strike it rich. In fact, I made10K more a year when I worked for a not-for-profit!!! I think someone needs to pray he finds some common sense! read more

For sometime now I've been wanting to get in touch with my faith but didn't like going alone. My friend has asked me one day if i wanted to go to church with her and replied back and said yes I would love to. They serve coffee, donut holes & water. They have a band which was different for me. I enjoyed the service and the lesson I've learned that day (January 2017) I've been actively going sometimes alone. The thing I love most about this church are the staff they are very friendly. I don't feel any pressure to be here. I was never a religious person growing up yet I was introduced to many different kinds of churches. I think I've found a church that I enjoy. All the campus pastors are amazing and funny. The atmosphere is very relaxing and welcoming. I enjoy the ice breakers it's really nice to meet other people in the community. They also have many fun events. I have yet to attend the new comers reception. I look forward every week to going to church. read more

I am sooo thankful that I found WestGate Church. Last year I was battling depression because of a breakup with someone I was dating. I didn't know what to do to get out of my funky mood. My step mom suggested that I try going to church regularly (I hadn't gone to church since I moved to San Jose). I tried a couple churches in my Willow Glen neighborhood, but I didn't find one that fit me. After looking at West gate's Yelp reviews I decided to try this church last July. After that first Sunday, I became a regular every week. Now I am proud to say that WestGate is my home church and I get excited to go every Sunday. WestGate is so welcoming, and they want you to be able to be yourself. I always feel comfortable at WestGate, and love their message every week. Before I knew it I began feeling like myself again. West gate's positive messages and welcoming atmosphere helped me put my depression behind me and move forward with my life. All of the Pastors seem like real people who are just like me. They all are very funny and keep me entertained every week. The BEST part about WestGate is the band. It's almost like I get to go to a concert every Sunday. Took me 14 months to find a home church after moving here from Seattle. Westgate is the 4th I visited and it's the one I'm picking! Here are the pros: - Worship music is entertaining and good hearted (Christian rock band-esque) - Pastor Steve is passionate and Biblical - It has a groovy atmosphere (modern and hip, much like a Seattle church) - People are really friendly - Church earns a lot of money each week which means they can afford some perks Cons: - Church is really large. Some may find it impersonal - The production is over the top during service (lights, music, video) that some may think it's all for show and not for Jesus. Best church I have ever been to!! I have never considered myself religious or gone to church until last year. I found Westgate when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. I AM SO GLAD I DID. It is a casual and very welcoming church. You can go in jeans and flip flops if you want and get a cup of coffee on the way in. Pastor Steve and the whole staff are so very inspiring. I always walked away with new insights, wise words, and more positivity than when I went in. The messages are relevant and applicable. I was looking for a new church and came across WestGate through a friend in the beginning of 2013. The welcoming staff and awesome worship locked me in on the first night. It was so refreshing to see a church where you can come in your jeans and were the pastor (Steve) was honest as he could be about Gods word. I love the fact that they have so many ways to get plugged in and they make it really easy for you. I have since volunteered in Kidztown, became a high school leader and have been on a missions trip to Bolivia. This church has become my second home and i could not imagine going anywhere else. I'm giving this church a 4 for now since I have not become really involved here yet so I don't know it well enough yet. I'm leaning towards a 5, though, and think you should definitely give it a shot if you're looking for a church to attend. If you're thinking about going here, you can expect great worship music (they have the best of anywhere I've been), a sincere Pastor who is an excellent speaker with a perspective I enjoy hearing, and a great community. The message is biblical and not waterd down. They also seem to really care about each other and the communities they are a part of, encouraging members to participate in all their various community-bettering activities. Unlike other churches, they are really about spreading the Christ's love and don't seem to do anything that would make unbelievers see otherwise. You should also know that this is a church of beautiful people. Maybe it's the location? It does seem this church is full of true believers getting out there in the community, but they all seem to be well off individuals who workout, have great clothes and great hair. One thing I really like is that there are a lot of people around my age here (mid 20s to mid 30s). It seems they have a large college group also as well as a post-college-age group (I think it might really be a singles group without calling it that, but I don't know for sure). If you are looking for a church to go to, definitely give this one a try. The people are genuine and the sermon will give you some food for thought. read more

After moving to San Jose from the mid-west, my wife and I really wanted to find a good church and good friends. At WestGate, we found both. WestGate does an incredible job of pulling you into their community and getting connected, despite its size. It also encourages you to grow spiritually and has a variety of activities and groups to grow closer to each other and to God. Through their Six40 Life groups, we have found some of the best friends that we could ask for. We would not be as happy here as we are without the people we met at this church. It stresses serving others and pulls together as a church to help the community, missionaries around the world, and individuals alike. It is honest and firm about its values and stances on debated topics, but is always loving and respectful to those who disagree. The lead pastor, Steve, is an incredibly caring and open person who is determined to help you bring Christ into every aspect of your life. He is straight-forward with what he believes and is very open about his past and uses his experiences as a way to connect with people who are struggling. His sermons are engaging, entertaining, and filled with real-life applications. WestGate encourages us to grow spiritually and use your gifts to serve others in a way that we haven't seen in other churches. We needed to find a church with Saturday services available due to my husband's schedule 5 years ago. We came to one service and never looked back. The kids ministry is amazing and they make connecting with the community so easy. We now lead a life group and the church is so incredibly supportive. Resources range from childcare availability during church service/life-group meetings and the freedom to be yourself. The sermons are bible-based and relevant. The music is amazing and the technical capability is awesome. Its a big church with a small-church feel. Oh - and complimentary coffee and donuts! read more

I came across this church originally looking for a place to hold my wedding ceremony. Luckily my date was available so we've decided to hold it here. I didn't feel comfortable having my wedding here without at least trying to go to service, so my fiancé & I decided to check if out. Though we were not members of this church at the time, I can tell you for sure that we are now. For quite sometime, both my fiancé & I have been looking for a parish that we can call home. & then when we got engaged, it became apparent to us that there was absolutely no way we were choosing to have a Godless marriage. When we arrived at our first service we were nervous because this place was new & we've been to so many churches before so we know it's difficult starting out. But immediately we were welcomed with big beautiful smiles, warm greetings, & amazing music. After we left that service, we knew we wanted to return. We have never felt that way with any other church in the past. It's safe to say that we found a home at West Gate. It is a casual church, no dress requirement, extremely high tech, (which we LOVE) & parking can get pretty tight so get there early. Oh & they serve coffee!! Awesome right?! read more

I am so proud to call Westgate my home church. These are some of the most genuine people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting (especially in the church). Westgate is a nondenominational church, pretty laid back, not focused on outward appearance. You don't have to be dressed up to be loved by God and commune with Him. You don't have to be perfect to enter into his presence. Come as you are, with all your "baggage" and faults. No cliques here. This isn't a church where you fall asleep during the sermon, its real talk, and very touching. The pastor is a human! Just like the rest of us. He shares his experiences and speaks like he would to a friend. He doesn't pretend he's perfect. Worship here is great, usually upbeat and contemporary songs. (I'm on the worship team here so look for me :)) Mark the music pastor is also very genuine and loves connecting with the crowd. This church isn't afraid to get out there and help others in the community. If you ever need them, they're there for you. I have utilized many of their services- my husband and I took advantage of their pre marital counseling program (highly recommend if you are getting married), we got married by a pastor there who drove out to Livermore to perform the ceremony, we joined a small group and met some of the best friends we could ever make, and we volunteer in their community help projects, how could we not! I never thought it would be so easy to get connected in the church. Past experiences with another church, I found it difficult, like they wanted to make it hard or something. That was a long time ago, and I am so thankful for Westgate and their community of believers. Love you Westgate! read more

Westgate is a church worth visiting. The pastor, Steve, is solid - he has a deep love for the Lord and passion for people. He's very real and dynamic in his talks and speaks Scripture. The worship is a good mixture of heartfelt praise and joyous worship and is spirit led. Westgate does a great job making people feel welcome and getting them connected. There are numerous discipleship and support groups offered, and there's a huge focus on ministry among each other as believers, outreach in the local community, and outreach overseas and to areas of need. Westgate, like any church, isn't perfect and isn't for everyone, but for me, it has been a blessing. I have a family there and feel deeply loved and moved by God each time I go to church. For the first time in a long while, I've felt compelled to give to a church, because of the heart I see for Jesus at it's root. read more
