The teachers create such a peaceful, loving environment where children feel safe, seen, and truly cared for. We've been especially impressed by how thoughtfully the teachers nurture imagination and creativity through play and storytelling. The seasonal celebrations and daily rhythm bring a sense of magic and consistency that our child looks forward to. The extensive time spent outdoors each day is a huge bonus. We heartily recommend the early childhood program to Central Virginia families.

There is a strong emphasis on human connection, creativity, and meaningful interaction, which feels increasingly rare in today's fast-paced, technology-driven world. I deeply appreciate how the school encourages children to step away from "machine life" and instead develop a true sense of self. Rather than focusing solely on productivity or outcomes, the approach nurtures curiosity, imagination, and emotional growth. While inspired by Waldorf principles, the school does not promote any specific ideology of Steiner, but instead captures the essence of holistic childhood development in a thoughtful and inclusive way. Equally wonderful is the sense of community and support among teachers, students, and families. It's a warm, thoughtful environment where children are truly seen and valued. We couldn't be happier.

The play-based curriculum is just what he needs and the hands-on aspect of a co-op gives us insight into every aspect of his day. We love the focus on music, art and books and that the kids play outside daily, rain or shine. Miles LIVES for Heather and Pam, telling us daily that they are his favorite part of school - high praise, considering his love of play dough! :)

A friend told me about her incredible experience with this particular school and it sparked my interest. After touring the school I just had to apply. I love that it is a play-based curriculum and really focuses on social aspects that kids need to learn. My daughter raves about the two amazing teachers and is genuinely sad when it's not a school day. We love that they incorporate arts, music, and reading into each day. The outdoor play area is full of opportunities for different play scenarios and they go outside no matter what the weather is. I also love that I get to be a part of the school by holding my own job as well as being a "helper" once a month. It makes it feel like you become part of a family. I can't wait to send my son there next year. This is an incredible school and I strongly recommend anyone who is looking for a play based school to take a tour!

The classrooms are spacious and comfortable and well-tended and filled with items appropriate to the age groups, mostly eco-friendly and natural objects. The teachers are incredibly creative in coming up with new objects and collections and themes for the children to learn and experience at every age, and the low caregiver-child ratios ensure plenty of focused attention through the day. The teachers carry through on a philosophy of respect and trust in the children, helping them learn to manage their emotions, to understand their world, and to work together with peers and teachers confidently and with empathy. Our son has had the same main teacher for two years, moving from classroom to classroom together with his cohort of similarly-aged friends, and she has been a true partner for us in his growth and development, with lots of feedback and observations for us to treasure. And the center hosts a private parents-only Shutterfly site where they post TONS of photos of the children every week. Priceless. He is loved, safe, happy, confident and learning so much, and he loves going to see his friends every day at school. He amazes me every day with what he has learned and who he is becoming as an Our Neighborhood kid. Far beyond a typical daycare, and totally worth it.

She was seen by her pediatrician and the pediatrician recommended to ask the daycare if they are aware of this, since it is in an unusual spot. So, my daughter emailed Gigi, the owner, and never responded back. When my daughter saw Gigi at Daycare and ask about this without judging, Gigi's response was " Is this because of what happened before? ( There was an incident before this, that when Gigi discharge another child, instead of putting the child's name to be discharge, she put my granddaughter's name) Are you accusing us? So it means if your child has a bruise on her knees you will blame us? If you think your child is not a good FIT in this daycare, you need to take her out" Gigi is so unprofessional! She should say to my daughter this " I will review this with teachers and get back to you" instead of saying those unprofessional response. Gigi needs to enroll in good moral conduct and how to deal with her customers professionally. PLEASE don't let your children go to this day care. Owner/ Director should have a good rapport to children's parents, since we are partners in growth and development of a child, mentally and physically.

We absolutely loved our visit to the Virginia Discovery Museum!…read more It looks a bit small and dinky from the outside, but my children and their cousins, ages 4 - 9, played non-stop for three hours. While most children's museums are multi levels, this is more like a giant long maze, making exploring each room feel like a treasure hunt. Favorite spots included the authentic log cabin complete with life size baby crib and a little play town with cafe, post office, and nature playground. There were lot of places for parents to sit and the whole museum felt relatively low key. The front desk was super nice and reminded us many times that we could come and go as we pleased throughout the day. Since we are American Children's Museum members we got free admission which was a huge added perk. Love being able to learn, explore, and play with my littles all around the US.

The website does a great job of explaining where to park. We followed our gps and it took us the emergency exit entrance. The entrance is right on the main brick road. The museum will also validate your pass so parking is free. Entering was easy and we let the kids loose. We spent about 2 hours but they could have easily stayed longer. They do not allow food in the museum but you can come and go as you please. Great experience to let your kids explore.
