Have you seen any Monarch butterflies this year? (Rhetorical) Weston sells Tropical Milkweed. This plant is known to kill them in a couple of different ways. https://www.npsot.org/posts/invasives-choose-native-over-tropical-milkweed/ I confronted the sales person yesterday and she made the same lame excuses that most nurseries use to make more money. Just like the owner did years ago when confronted with information about the situation with invasive privets. Weston has some nice native plants, however by shopping there, the customer is supporting a business that cares more about making money than our environment. People here are horrible with zero concern for their guest!!!! Attended a wedding here and it rained. Can't do anything about the weather, but the staff had no contingencies for rain. That was forecasted for a week. Speaking to the happy(ish) couple today, they are utterly devastated about how their day went. Rain, it happens, no issues with Mother Nature. Forcing the ceremony into the rain and not under the tent?!?!?! Yes, you read correctly. The couple asked to move the tables under the tent so they could do the ceremony there, but the Weston staff said, "we are doing it in front of the barn". In the rain. Didn't get to see the ceremony because I stayed under the tent behind "the barn". The day before, when asked about what would happen when it rains, they gave a plan and not a single thing happened. The amount of shoes & dresses ruined in the mud is not countable. The venues bartenders demanded tips when getting drinks?!?! I am one of the best tippers on the planet when it is my idea, but..... Speaking to the couple, the rain didn't bother them and it didn't take away from the celebration, but it is such a disappointment of how the venue handled everything when there were assurances there was a contingency plan. The couple was told the venue would put mulch down, pavers or moved to the solid ground area, all of which were part of the contingency plan. None of this happened. Restroom was a trailer in the mud? Where the venue placed the food was across a drainage area. One side had a piece of plywood over the ditch, the other side was not accessible. Although the great people from La Hacienda were amazing and the food was awesome!!! The venue had zero to do with the food. Do not trust anything they say and I am sure they are paid up front. Find another place or do not rely on the staff at the Weston to make any good decisions concerning your wedding. read more

This review has been a long time coming. I attended a wedding here that happened in the rain, and the venue was completely unprepared. I had to allow some time for me not to be so angry before I wrote this. But people need to know about the risk they are taking by booking with this venue. If it doesn't rain, probably it will all be ok. BUT IF IT DOES RAIN, you will very likely have a terrible experience at best and possibly an unsafe one. We knew the rain was coming ten days before the wedding. When concerned members of the wedding party inquired about the significant rain storm coming and the amount of tenting facilities that we could see going up (that was clearly not enough for the 250 coming), the staff at WG said, repeatedly, "you don't worry about the rain, we do." But they weren't ready for the weather . . . NOT at all. The result: the area was not safe - it was very slippery and an inch of mud in some locations where guests arrived and had to go for food and to reach the porta-potty. The ceremony had to take place in the rain, even though we were told there was a plan for having it under the tents. Much of the food went to waste because people couldn't get to the food or see it very well for those braving the obstacle course to get there. And WG had the wedding party start to shut down early (and frantically), and before the couple had their big send-off. Those are just the highlights. But you get the idea. Weather happens, no one was upset about that. The problem was that the venue wasn't prepared. Really really not prepared. read more

Posting my review is dated, admittedly, but after reading the latest three reviews regarding how the venue accommodates for rain, my review falls under this category. My wedding occurred in October 2018, the wettest October in 10 years. We made it through the vows with only sprinkles, but everyone was rushing around putting the tents in place at the very last minute just before the monsoon began. When I say last minute, I mean not only was I, the bride, entering the reception with soaked face & hair, but many attendees and the mother-of-the-bride were also starting the party looking like wet rats. That's ok, we expected a little rain. What we didn't plan on is for the only available toilet to get clogged. Before the event, when we mentioned our concerns about there being only one toilet, considering it's on a septic system, we were specifically told not to worry about it, as it never gets clogged. Well, it DID happen pretty early on. Thankfully, they were able to get a port-a-potty delivered VERY quickly, so we opted for the middle of three choices. It was placed in the mud (though everywhere was muddy at this point), there was zero light AND there was a hole at the top, so guests had to do their business in total darkness with a small, but steady stream of water dripping on their heads. In the venue's defense, they did not charge us for the porta-potty being brought in last minute, which was $2,500. So, it kind of sucked not having a bathroom for a good portion of the evening. The other issue was that the beer delivery was 2 hours late. That was stressful. Those were the only complaints related to the venue. The staff was very nice and professional, through the mud and mess. Other unrelated mishaps happened, which included our caterer getting severely stuck in the mud, as did several guests. One of our guests flagged down a man on a tractor down the road to come and help pull people out of the muddy parking lot by the tent. Then some guests ate the flowers that were placed on the drinks for decoration. Due to the monsoon, we had to call off the first dance, the father-daughter dance and we did not have a send-off, but that had nothing to do with Weston Gardens. I took everything in stride and with everything that went wrong that night anyway, I and everyone else still had a great time and I'll always call it our beautiful disaster. read more

"Dear Mike's Garden Center, Please stop selling Asclepias curassavica (tropical milkweed, bloodflower, scarlet milkweed, sunset flower, silkweed). They hurt us. Please carry Asclepias incarnata, A. tuberosa, A. syriaca, A. speciosa, and A. asperula instead. It's actually illegal to ship curassavica to Texas. Sincerely, the Monarchs." The Mike's Garden Center manager was brusque and pounded on themes that were not relevant to my request that they consider not selling the milkweed that hurts Monarchs and is deemed by the Texas government to be a noxious weed which cannot be shipped here. We had brought in two Asclepias we'd purchased only to discover they were A. curassavica. Earlier I had at first mistakenly called Weston Gardens in Bloom (8101 Anglin Dr, Fort Worth) where I had purchased an A. tuberosa (and wanted to buy their A. incarnata) to ask if they accepted returns. They graciously said yes if we brought the receipt. I figured Mike's Garden Center might be just as gracious and if not I'd just have to destroy the Monarch-killing plants. I went. I saw the "NO RETURNS NO EXCHANGE" sign and said "OK. But I'm really here to talk to the manager." The cashier said they might make an exception under the circumstances and she said she'd get the manager. He showed up loaded for bear. Calmly, I showed him the facts from the federal government's website, and the statistics from the Smithsonian, and "Molecular Ecology." I asked if he'd consider not selling it anymore as politely as if my beloved genteel gramma were watching me. "Irregardless of what's on your little paper people buy it." "It's not my little paper -- it's a government website." "Irregardless, people buy it." "Because tropical milkweed doesn't die back and they are trying to help the Monarchs and they don't know about the harm curassavica does. You didn't even identify it as Tropical Milkweed -- only as Asclepias. This kills Monarchs, and you could sell the good ones instead." But he was loaded for bear and he shot his load. Kept barking at me that I wasn't getting a refund. "That's not why I'm here. I wanted to ask you to consider not selling plants that hurt Monarchs." Kept barking at me that I wasn't getting an exchange. Still calm, still smiling though it didn't reach my eyes: "That's not why I'm here. I wanted to ask you to consider not selling plants that hurt Monarchs." Lather, rinse, repeat repeatedly. I said to Husband "Let's go. No, don't pick them up carefully, we have to destroy them." I grasped one of the two $15 plants and snapped its stems in half, walked out to the parking lot and holding it by the mangled stems bashed it to bits. The root ball got even by bouncing back and slapping my face. I was covered in dirt. I smiled instantly and gleefully, and took a photo of my dirty self in front. Weston Gardens in Bloom (8101 Anglin Dr, Fort Worth) sells the good milkweeds (Asclepias incarnata and A. tuberosa), not the killer milkweed and graciously will give you an exchange if you bring the receipt. Weston Gardens is a hidden jewel tucked away south of I-20 in southeast Fort Worth. I randomly found Weston Gardens while looking for a Mother's Day alternative one year and was an instant fan. The Gardens boast plenty of discovery opportunities with a legitimate European ambience. Yes, right here in south Fort Worth. Mother's Day deserved special mention because they do it *so fricking well* with live harp music, free flavored teas and cookies, and a free plant for each mom. Weston Gardens is my secret weapon for any special event for the women in my world. It is an exceptionally beautiful and charming collection of connected outdoor spaces. Unless you read a review like this or hear by word of mouth, there's nothing about Weston Gardens to suggest what it is from a casual drive by, should you even have a reason to drive south on Anglin from I-20. Every time I visit I think "this place should be packed". Weston Gardens is also a venue, a landscaping design business, and a nursery. It's a must-visit if you like the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens or Dallas Arboretum. Much smaller in scale than these larger operations, but oozing with charm. And best of all, it's free! read more

Such a beautiful environment! The grounds sprawl two sides of the street with areas to roam, sit, and relish the gardens. There are native plants for sale on the east side with small patio tables and garden artworks, with some events held for customers of the nursery. On the west side are the delightful gardens(now in BLOOM)! Many areas that of different designs but pleasant in it's own way. Weddings, receptions, and more are held on the grounds. We almost gave up on having a wedding until we came across Weston Gardens! It was everything we had envisioned, and the first word that came to mind was "whimsical". Deposite having an outdoor wedding in May, our guests loved the venue. They kept saying how different it was than any other wedding they'd been to. Weston Gardens accommodates almost anything you can think of to make your wedding an event to remember for everyone. We were able to plan something truly amazing in just three months with a harpist, yard games, caricature artist, and food trucks. The amount of space Weston Gardens offers makes it a perfect venue for large families and kids. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and made it worth every penny. read more

Months later.. the hot pink canna lilies bloomed orange. The striped pink and white rose bloomed plain old pink with no stripes in sight. the shade plants look kinda.. well like weeds and I never saw this red blooming sage bloom red yet. Its just green. my advice.. only buy stuff here if its blooming and you can be sure to evaluate the flower before you truck it home. still probably the best selection of antique roses in Arlington but buy in late April to make sure you're getting what you're buying. or drive out to Tyler and buy roses. or Brenham. Have been shopping and hanging out at Westons for about twenty years. You will not find a better place for native, adapted and unique plants that are so well suited to our area. Everyone that works here really knows their stuff, and if they don't know they will find out for you! Not to mention it is so peaceful hanging out in the acres of demonstration gardens. Weston Gardens has been my go to place for perennial plants even though it's a drive to get there. They have lots of native perennial plants that are easy to grow and I find plants there that I can't find anywhere else. Staff is helpful and their prices are very reasonable. Great place to shop if you don't want the same old plants you find everywhere else. read more
