On March 17, 2026, I received a courteous text message at 1:53 PM informing me that my payment hadn't been received and asking me to call or pay online. I immediately responded at 1:54 PM, apologized, and made the full six-month payment by 2:00 PM--within minutes. A representative named Tara confirmed she saw the payment, mentioned it typically takes a couple of days to clear, and said she would let me know if there were any issues. I never heard back--which I assumed was a good sign. I had more than enough funds in the account, and there was no reason to think anything went wrong. Fast forward to June: I find out--without any prior notice whatsoever--that my policy had been canceled. No phone call, no email, no text, no letter. Nothing. Apparently, the payment had "bounced," but I was never notified. Because of this failure in communication, I've now been placed in the high-risk insurance category, and my premiums have skyrocketed--all for something I wasn't even aware of. This is not only irresponsible, it feels negligent. I will be consulting a lawyer to explore my legal options, and I encourage others who have had similar experiences to stand up for their rights as well. We deserve better than this.

I handed her all my declaration pages from last year's policies and told her what had changed. There were only few price increases, everything else was the same. She asked what price I was quoted this year. I told her I would rather she do her quote and I will make a decision without giving up that information. A few minutes later in the conversation she asked again what the price was and I said "a lot more than I paid last year". She said "you're not going to tell me are you?" I said no. She looked irritated. It's not fair to barely beat another competitor to get the business which I've experienced before. I wanted the honest quote which should have been easy enough to do with everything I left her. I waited for her to respond a couple weeks and never heard back. I ended up with another carrier and feel very comfortable with them. It all worked out for the best.

Let me say first that the agent was INITIALLY awesome with the quote, but for some odd reason there were a number of delays, and what appeared to be at some point deliberate evasion by the agent. He did not respond to repeated calls and emails regarding initiating the policy. I follow up only to find out that his brother has "decided to raise minimal insurance scores that basically prevents him from writing policies in Detroit" - a practice that has probably assisted in building their business over the years. I mean why else would an agent road trip to Detroit to meet with car salespersons for the express purpose of writing insurance policies? That stated, the agent whose last name just happens to be Trumble - did not communicate the change despite the numerous attempts to reach him. I find this very unprofessional, and the hint by the agent that this might be "racially motivated" a very serious issue that deserves to be made known to the public, and the agency that oversees and regulates the industry.
