Customers are not required to wear masks in this facility unless they are displaying symptoms. When I pointed out a coughing customer without a mask they just ignored that. They also have a waiting room chair placed right next to the door everyone must pass through to get their blood drawn. Naturally a covidiot without a mask decided to sit there. This place has a relatively nice and air conditioned waiting room that seats at least 30 people. The bathroom was nice and clean and the people are relatively friendly. But, yeah, they're slow as hell! The worst part about it is that they don't do appointments. So when my wife and I went in and we're told that it'd be a 45 minute to an hour wait. Staff was friendly, only about 3 other people waiting in the waiting room, and the place was clean. Phlebotomist was fast and did her work well. This place is freezing cold, especially in the back where they draw your blood, so dress accordingly. Not sure what was going on with all the other bad reviews, but many of the other PALs closed at 4, this one closes at 5. I came in around 3:45 on a Wednesday and it was almost deserted. Wait time is 1 1/2 hours on average. Doors to PR and SLO offices since March have been closed PRIOR to posted hours closing times (on google and on doors). I have mentioned this, they "are not allowed to change them." I have witnessed a woman with her elderly (father?) hobble across on a walker the PR parking lot only to be turned away prior to business hours of closing because they are "too busy or short staffed," or whatever their excuse of the day is. Guess what? HIRE MORE PEOPLE! Also, at 2:40, last Friday (I go here often, but not anymore, I found an awesome mobile guy: Central Coast Mobile Labs: 805 423 3208) they hoarded everyone from outside (where I was waiting safely, as I social distance) into the waiting room where there was no room to social distance, so everyone was crammed into a small space. Went in early in the morning and wait time was long. Blood draw was quick and easy, but I left with a sore arm. Ended up with severe bruising, pain, and swelling on my arm that resulted in a trip to the Urgent Care (see pictures). Doctor at urgent care wanted to rule out a blood clot before I left on vacation that weekend, as a blood clot could be life threatening. Since Kern Radiology was closed, I had to go to the ER for an ultrasound of my arm. Six hours and $500 later, I was told it was just a hematoma from a blown vein due to phlebotomy error. read more

Waiting area is standing room only ridiculously packed and from reviews this seems to be an ongoing problem. They need to obviously work on speed and organization at this location. You dont wait till people to pile up before you decide to call them up back to back at the window and pile them up again less than 6ft apart all while asking patients to fill out a covid form asking if they have been near someone with covid. If I could give 0 stars I would this place is the worst I got here and waited 10 minuets before anyone even showed up at the window I asked for them to check to see if my doctor had sent lab slip I was told to wait. Horrible wait, they take all the time in the world just to process an order. I've experience really bad employees that don't seem to know what they are doing. Moreover, my toddler has also has been affected by this, which is really why I'm writing this. She needed a blood work done and the one person in charge of drawing the blood didn't know how to do it efficiently, what should've been 2 min took 15 min... my daughter was horrified screaming that it was hurting, especially because the woman kept moving the needle to see if she could get more blood that way. I was disappointed with the COVID-19 precautions. Most specifically, there was no hand sanitizer available, only an empty dispenser. How hard is it to keep that filled? Probably more important, there was no lid on the toilet to protect you from aerosols during the flush. Again, this could be accommodated cheaply and is important. On the other phlebotomist was very good and had a good "bedside manner". However, because of the problems mentioned above, I'll look for other options, next time I need lab work done. read more

My doctor faxed my lab work 2x! PAL said they never received it. I arrived at 4pm. Called my doctor 2x. I confirmed with my doctor that they did fax the labs. By 4:50 PAL said they still have not received the faxes. I walked out frustrated, annoyed, and upset. This office is disorganized. As a community we have had to be flexible and adapt to all of the challenges and hurtles Covid 19 has brought with it. Some business and providers have done well some not so much. Westpac labs has not. The lab staff are doing the best they can but the leader(s) seem to be challenged with making the environment user friendly both virtually and their in person services. The website is difficult to navigate and making an appointment is close to impossible. The communication in regards to walk-in or appointments is confusing at best. I pin point the leaders specifically because they are the ones who set the culture and provide for their staff to do their jobs well. I attempted to speak with the leaders about concerns and she became argumentative with no clear answers to some very clear problems. Unfortunately living in a small town limits our options but I do not think that means we should settle for poor care. Westpac stake holders I hope you get the message and step in to fill the gaps on such and important service for our community. read more

Where do I begin my baby currently has pneumonia and I got a lab slip I checked in and about 5 mins later I was called for my daughter the lady began to draw blood on my 12 month old baby and missed not once but TWICE are you kidding me!!!!! This is a baby so then she called her fellow friend over to assist she poked her and got the blood going BUT NOT ENOUGH so guess what my poor baby has to get poked again!!!!!! So probably a Total of about 6 times if they don't miss the vein how fucken sad this is your job is to fine veins and draw blood I'm sorry if you can't do that why are you working here?? This is a fairly new location among their many patient services centers. I really appreciate the friendliness and professionalism of the people there. I don't walk easily any more and somebody was always right there to lend a hand with my walker and other things. When needed, somebody would bring me a chair to rest on. The first few months they were open it was necessary to move the sign in pad over to a reception area desk, but that flow works well now. I am a very satisfied customer. read more

I walked into the Brimhall location because it's fairly new and I was hoping it wouldn't be as busy as some of their other locations. Upon my 6:30 am arrival the waiting room was only 1/3 full Good news as I was fasting and still had 1:15 min until I needed to be at work. I signed the sign in sheet and took my seat. I was listening intently each time a name was called anxious to get my blood drawn so I could get a bite to eat. My name was never called. This facility is not nearly as efficient as downtown where even a large room of people. Another customer asked if e had been forgotten and he was. So after 45 min of waiting I thought I'd better ask too. Since I still hadn't been asked for my insurance info. I was told they called my name. I'm sure they did not. They said they would call me back soon. After every person who was currently in the waiting room was called back (30 more min), I inquired again and was told there would be calling me back soon. I was forgotten TWICE! It still took awhile longer when an employee walked in the front door and then I was called back and saw the nice phlebotomist who had just arrived. The procedure took less than 5 minutes. I resisted sending the above note because I really don't like eating any business up based on a first impression. So I just let it sit unfinished until now. Today I had to go back for additional blood work 3 weeks after my last visit to this location. Since I didn't need to fast I arrived at 10:15 to a room with only a handful of people, great. I checked in and sat down. The way time was still 40 min today. They just didn't get things done efficiently, but at least I wasn't forgotten. Once called back the procedure took about 3 min. The busy downtown location is far more efficient. Seems some training is needed here. The 1 star I was going to give after my first experience still stands Try another location next time...I will read more

This is the most poorly run PAL in the entire chain. As I was entering my name on the register there was a lady complaining about the wait and that everyone that came in after her had already been seen. I thought she was just a complainer. After one hour and countless patients seen that came after me I became that lady. The check in person is absolutely clueless and has no idea of what is going on. After watching a few more people get called that had been there less than 10 minutes I got up and left. I wasted 75 minutes in the Brimhall location then drove to another location and was seen in 5 minutes. read more
