Westview Cemetery is a beautiful cemetery. My grandparents are buried there. I haven't been to the cemetery since my grandmother died in the early 1990's. I wasn't sure where her marker was. I called and the woman I talked to was very nice. She told me the section to look in. I went to the cemetery to look and couldn't find the markers for my grandparents. Thank goodness the office was still open. I went in and a very nice man helped me with directions so I could find the markers. Thank you so much for being kind and helpful. Once I got directions it was very easy to find. In the rushed and mean spirited world we live in today this kindness was very much appreciated. Thank you. read more

These people are like con artists. They staged my mother to be buried in the wrong grave! They caused me such misery and they kept asking for more money, more money, more money. It was horrific. It was a curse not a comfort. read more

A stop along the way to remember a few and see a few beautiful head stones and Canadian geese. We saw a few folks had rated this about a 3.5 and we were in the area and thought we like walking cemeteries ever since Paris and London. One person mentioned to lock your car, we did but we don't leave valuables in the car. Take a few moments and pause and realize we are only here a short period of time. Being raised in Southwest Atlanta, this is my family's cemetery. I have relatives buried here from the 1800's. I love this cemetery. It is so peaceful, beautiful and serene. I come often, about every 8 weeks. It is now a high crime area, but I usually come by myself and have never once felt afraid. My parents, my sister and brother-in-law and my husband are now buried here. One day I will be, too. My only complaint is with the grounds keepers. After making many calls and complaints, they are not doing anything about the lack of grass on our plot of land. This is very frustrating. As a rule, the office personnel are very nice and seem efficient. I just can't seem to get them to address the grass issue. read more

The cemetery was BEAUTIFUL! But they were filming something there and playing rock music, maybe a music video. Due to the filming, a HUGE portion of the cemetery was blocked off and there were tons of cars and I somehow walked into part of the blocked off section accidentally and got chased away. The groundskeepers were a little suspicious of me just visiting and practicing photography alone, but eventually they left me alone when they realized I was quiet and literally bothering nobody. During the pandemic, this is one of the most ideal places to wander in the middle of the city. While you should wear a mask almost everywhere else around town, Westview Cemetery is never crowded and is spread out and deserted, even by cemetery standards. The mausoleum, which is closed, is a knockout piece of architecture (one of the most attractive buildings in the city) and enjoyable to explore from the outside, making one feel like they are in Italy, rather than a large Southern city. If you have never been to Oakland Cemetery, you should check that out first, it's more impressive. But Oakland can get a little crowded, while Westview is well maintained with no shortage of history and at the same time, somewhat forgotten. read more

I visited Westview with a friend last Saturday after living away from Atlanta for many years. My father, my aunt and my grandparents are buried at Westview, and I have not visited there in some 40 + years. I have not, lately, been treated in a more professional and kind manner at a place of business, than Connie, at the front desk, treated both me and my friend. She patiently answered all of our questions and gave us a map, carefully explaining the plots and the roads/non-roads that led us to the grave sites. My friend had another gravesite that she wanted to locate for a neighbor of hers. Connie was equally as helpful as she helped searching for that information as well. It was a day made even more memorable by the kindness shown by this member of the Westview staff. Thank you, Connie. read more

I was there this past Saturday at 7:30 in the morning to collect my Christmas wreaths - however much to my dismay there were hardly any wreaths at all in the cemetery. Their policy is to remove holiday wreaths the first of March. I'm curious if anyone else went to retrieve their wreaths only to find them missing. My friend went to the office today as hers were missing as well and they didn't have a good answer - said they did not clear the wreaths - although I suspect that's exactly what happened. I'm out several hundred dollars - was wondering if anyone else had the same experience. This is my family cemetery - my family's been actively putting wreaths on our families sites for 60 years. Now, I've been faithfully doing this since my parents passed in 2007 and 2009 . My heart sank when I realized that all the wreaths were gone. This cemetery does not take kindly to visitors so be warned. I've been walking here probably dozens of times over the past few years. I like to see the birds and enjoy the fresh air. I sometimes bring my dog with me (their website doesn't say they aren't allowed and I've never once seen a sign). I hardly ever see anyone but when I do see someone visiting, I give them space and walk a different way. Today when I got back to my car, a young white male was waiting there, standing between me and my car. I took out my headphones and he immediately got aggressive and accused me of trespassing and said he'd been following me and taking pictures of me. The whole time he never identified himself and was posturing in an intimidating and loud way. I was scared, no one else was really around. I calmly informed him he was making me uncomfortable and made a move for my car and called my husband as I left. The man was following me the whole time. My husband insisted we call the cemetery office on 3-way call. We spoke with a woman named Cindy who identified the male as an employee. She didn't seem to grasp how terribly the employee handled the situation. She offered a non-apology apology for his behavior but definitely didn't care at all. Westview should consider adding visitor policies to their website or at least calmly informing people when they're in violation of some unknown rule rather than immediately siccing some aggro gravedigger on them. I'm happy to no longer visit, I'm definitely not a rule-breaker and was only trying to enjoy a peaceful walk. But let it be known that this man never asked me who I was. I was just visiting in general, but what if I'd been visiting a family member? Westview needs training and policies in place that protect their clients. I would never want to inter a loved one here and risk encountering one of their thugs. read more

Be careful in dealing with Westview Cemetary. Their policies change daily. They violated the policy in allowing recent internment into the graves of my father's estate WITHOUT proper consent from ALL heirs to the property of his estate. Additionally, if a grave marker is damaged by the lawnmowers in Section F they will not notify you of the damage nor will they repair the damage. Atlanta has cemeteries much more modern and maintained much better than Westview allowing flower placement all year rather than a few months during the winter. Shop around before choosing this dump. read more

I visited Westview 1 year ago. I stopped by the office and asked if it was okay to wander and look at the headstones. She said yes, but I noticed a Subaru following me everywhere. It seemed creepy. I did enjoy the scenery, monuments, and aesthetic headstones, but I probably won't come back. The Mausoleum was under renovation. read more

This place is gorgeous. I live in westview, my house almost backs up to the cemetary property. Its a quiet place to take a walk, or take some photos. There is a lot of history here, and most people don't know that it is the second largest cemetary in Atlanta. I'm not sure why people don't visit as often and Oakland, but they should.. I've made quite a few visits to Oakland Cemetery over the years and found Westview through yelp. Between the two Oakland is still my favorite. Westview isn't as well organized or as maintained. The mausoleum looks like a European castle. I didn't get to go inside because it was being closed three hours before it was scheduled. Just be aware that the mausoleum may not be available for an inside look if you go. There are some very large stained glass pieces and some canvases that I will go back and visit another day. The rest of the cemetery is also very spread out with a mix of modern in with the very early graves. It's good for a long walk and there is plenty of beautiful markers and artwork to enjoy. read more

Now some of you may think that a cemetery is a creepy place to spend time but take a drive or walk through Westview and you'll change your mind. There are many sculptures, lots of trees and there happens to be graves there as well. I have heard some visitors reports of seeing pheasants, foxes, deer and even an occasional coyote in the cemetery. Combine this with a very open parklike feel, virtually no traffic and 500+ acres less than 4 miles from the state capital and you have a place of solitude that can't be beat in the city. While I suspect that walking or bicycling through the cemetery would be ok, I have heard that the staff have objections to dogs walking because it could offend some family members to think that a dog was playing on their ancestor's grave. Definitely spend time walking through the mausoleum. Especially the chapel if it's not in use. It is truly a beautiful space. The layout of the different "gardens" with their associated marble & granite sculptures makes for a great view as well. This is definitely one of our city's under-valued treasures. read more

Go for the history, the architecture, and the peaceful grounds. There are maps for walking tours and occasionally you can get a guided tour. This is the largest cemetery in the Southeast, so bring your best walking shoes and a camera. The who's who of Georgia Tech, Coca Cola, and Atlanta government are buried here, along with merchants, teachers, and Joel Chandler Harris of Brier Rabbit fame. read more

Oakland is cool but this place is cooler. The mausoleum is gorgeous and huge. I think they do weddings there too (if they don't, they should!!) Very beautiful large grounds with fields of it still open (meaning no burials) so you can picnic or take the dogs for a game of frisbee. There are many interlocking small roads with a variety of hills so you can design a bike ride any length you want that is also perfect for your fitness level. Don't miss the Greek section or the giant tower. Very unique. read more

Westview Cemetery is fabulous, but the large community Mausoleum is beautiful yet falling apart from years of neglect. Come see the lovely stained glass and wood covered Abbey before it falls down. Having said that, Westview remains one of my all time favorite cemeteries - the largest in the southeastern United States. read more

The Westview Cemetery is a historic and spiritual place that is always being repaired and maintained by the great Westview Cemetery Maintenance. The graves are watched over to protect them from vandals and you will usually see some sign of maintenance, like wheelbarrows filled with dirt. They keep the place clean and respectful. read more

Just like the others stated, a true hidden gem. With the SW section of the belt line trail leading right to their door, I hope more people find time to go visit. However, a poster below mentioned biking. Well, I talked with the people at Westview, and they won't hassle an occasional biker passing through, but don't go bringing 30 dudes in their best spandex to tear around the cemetery.
