The Oilers were founded in 1971 by W. D. "Wild Bill" Hunter and Dr. Chuck Allard and played its first season in 1972 as one of the twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association (WHA). After joining the NHL, the Oilers went on to win the Stanley Cupon five occasions: 1983-84, 1984-85, 1986-87, 1987-88 and 1989-90. Along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, they are tied for the most championshipswon by any team since the NHL-WHA merger, as well as the most won by any team that joined the league in or after 1967. Tonight is their night to shine. I'm sorry Dallas but I'm rooting for Edmonton Oilers.

The Oil Kings are geared towards a fun family night out. Not only is it good hockey (which is great if you are into the game) but they have lots of entertaining things happening throughout the game as well. They have fun little games, the T-shirt throws, the wave (who doesn't like that), sing-a-longs etc. The team also encourages lots of community involvement. We have gone with our hockey team and the kids have played on the ice, we've seen other teams there as the honour guard, and bench warming. It's so much fun to be part of the action. Every year the Oil Kings also does the teddy bear toss which raises both funds and teddy bears for Ronald McDonald House and it shows their community spirit which is fantastic to see in a local sports club. If you have never been out to a game I would say take advantage of their pricing - it's a great night out for a club or a family. While you might not be able to afford to go to an Oilers game you can definitely afford to the go to an Oil Kings game - same action and so much more fun for kids and families.

The Western Hockey League is the top junior league in Western Canada and is a part of the Canadian Hockey League. This is the second best hockey you'll get in Edmonton, next to the Edmonton Oilers. But for the price, the Oil Kings are of much better value. Both teams play at Rexall Place, and an Oilers seat that will cost you $200, will cost you about $25 for an Oil Kings game. Although it isn't top tier hockey, it is fast-paced and high energy because the players are trying to get drafted into the NHL and impress the scouts who are always paying attention. The Oil Kings sell themselves as being family-oriented hockey (probably because most people can afford to bring family to a game) so it is a totally different atmosphere than an Oilers game. There are a lot of games going on during the TV time outs that are geared towards kids. The club also has a lot of promotional nights to draw people in, such as Wiener Wednesdays ($2 weenies!), vuvuzela nights, 80s nights, and they will often give away merch to the first 1000 people through the door. We were at a game the other night and the Oil Kings scored five goals, so everyone got a $10 Earl's gift card in their way out. If you are looking to catch a quality hockey game and either can't get Oilers tickets or just want to spend less, the Oil Kings are a great option. It can be a fun night with friends if you don't want to splurge on the Oilers. Tickets range from $17-$35, plus service charge.

New bouldering gym for the win!…read more Climbing into its 6 month since opening, this new space boasts a larger rock wall area, comfier landing mats, and nice corner area for stretching and strengthening hose tight sore muscles! Compared to other climbing gyms, this place uses the V-scale type of grading scale, the same type for grading outdoor mountain climbing routes and difficulty. This grading scale is a little tougher even in the first 2-3 levels! Really makes you appreciate how easy you've had it at other gyms lol! It's more challenging for sure but that's what makes it so good Theres a couple added features that I really like as well: the crash mats have a felt covering which is nicer to land on, cleaner bathrooms with a foot washing station! Also some great equipment and wall pieces to challenge your finger hold/grip strength Some nice extra features are that they have a bouldering league in which you can participate to complete the proposed climbing routes to earn draw prizes! Def coming back for more!

The location is in the old Goodwill on 51 Ave, which is convenient and has lots of parking. The staff welcomed us and explained all the bouldering details to us newbies, while getting us set up with shoe rentals (about $5 per visit). We had a little intro and climbed up one route and practiced our jumps in a safe manner. Then we were on our own! All the routes are colour coded with white being the easiest level. It's definitely easy to walk around and try out some different climbs. Also they change things up weekly - so your favourite climb may not be there, but there's always another similar skill level replacement. If you're new to bouldering - like me - definitely check it out on a Saturday night as there's a free beginners introduction class at 5pm. They teach you all the ropes and techniques of how to climb safely and properly. Also they have a promo on for newbies, where your second visit is free! I've been there a few times now, so I broke down and finally bought my own climbing shoes and a punch pass. Just make sure to store ALL your belongings in a locked locker (including your outdoor shoes at the front), as someone recently stole my friend's shoes. Other than that, enjoy!
